Should we advertise or wait for people to find it on their own? A lot of people seem to be spread thin over boards for individual franchises.

Probably not going to happen much since you can't search 8chan boards by topic. The way I found this board was by typing the url in to see if there was a jrpg board and I doubt many people will think to do that.

Also general as a format tends to devolve into shitposting/tripfagging so you want to stay away from that.

We could always ask /banner/ for help if we find a picture that works but want the correct width and height.

Some good suggestions however it feels a bit lacking such ad phantasy star series, Ys series, panzer dragoon saga and shining series. I would also throw in shenmue and yakuza series if you could call them JRPGS
