Another thing I would like to add (I don't know if this deserves its own thread) is the pet theory I have about this new maymay. I think that people find satisfaction and comedy in Brendan's shit getting fucked up because they were the one who once had their shit just fucked up as well. We all have personal struggles in life, and this kind of website seems to attract people from the margins or fringe of society and as such they suffer a higher rate of divorce, bankruptcy, alcoholism, debt, addiction, et cetera. We all derive satisfaction from taking our anger out on things that we perceive to be weaker than us, like a child, or in this case a suicidal person in a downward spiral. This is just human nature.

I'm also willing to bet that most of us are between the ages of 18 and 25, and grew up seeing Brendan in very high-profile roles and becoming a household name. I think the word schadenfreude applies: a German loanword word for joy at the expense of others (the polar opposite of jealousy). Seeing Brendan fall from such great heights slightly dulls the pain we feel from our own failures in life. I am of the opinion that this is the root of most of the hatred that the average person harbors for most celebrities. Like how everyone says they absolutely hate the Kardashians, but the show still gets millions of viewers, and that means big money.

This arrogance and subsequent fall from great heights and fortune to personal defeat is called hubris and it forms the basis of the plot for many Greek tragedies. You may remember Daedalus, who flew too close to the sun and fell to his death. Once again, life imitates art.
