Rubio may or may not personally believe it, but saying "Trump's even worse than Hillary!" is a sentiment meant to bend conservatives to a non-Trump in the primary or Hillary in the general.

Call the current US trade deficit about $45 billion/month. Slight protectionism and onshoring shifts that by, say, $10 billion/month. Some companies win, some lose, but you can bet the losers will fight tooth and nail to keep the status quo.

After all, many of those rich old men have their own alimony to pay.
