The only annoying thing is that you need a "pistol purchase permit" from your local sheriff's dpt. To buy a handgun. It costs 5 dollars and you can only get 5 at a time. It's not a huge deal but kind of irritating since I buy about a dozen handguns per year. If you have a CHL, you don't need the permit so really the law just encourages more people to get their CHL.

I'm from Texas originally and had many bad experiences with the police there which left me with a shitty attitude towards law enforcement, but I honestly can't complain about the cops here. One helped me jump start my car this morning.

Don't get me wrong, I love Texas and have loose plans to move back there after I graduate. The cops in Texas just seem to be a bit more heavy-handed in their approach. I've been beaten by them for perceived "disrespect" and had my rights violated many times. One cop took my car keys out of my hand and opened my trunk with them, then wrote me a ticket for illegal fireworks for having a tiny little blackcat. When I worked overnight security in Ft. Worth, I was pulled over every single time I went to get a cup of coffee at 3 am by the same officer. The law only states that a weapon must be suitable and not top powerful for planned use. No other requirements.

Then you may borrow weapons if you already have a similar permit. Permits are also valid indefinitely, unless there's a good reason to put a time limit on it. Pistol permits are initially given for five years. A safe is mandatory if you have 5 or more firearms, or even one especially dangerous one.
