How much should my upper run me? I've been parting shit out, and I'm at $120 for the upper (BCM), $275 for the barrel (Daniel Defense 16''), not sure what to do for the BCG and charging handle. I saw DD has a BCG for $210, non-chromed. Any suggestions?

Really?
Magpul pmags go for about $12
All other moe or moe plus grips and guards are generally the same price as mil spec (with the added benefit of not having tiny hand bitch grips if you are a big guy or just have man hands) and the guards have the ability to easily mount stuff with small rail sections.
If your gripe is thier fancy space stocks well no shit they're expensive everyone else is in the business of selling tacticool shit to rake in cash from mall ninjas or people who just want some interesting shit, you'd have to be a retard to not want easy money.
Magpul is popular because they make affordable plastic crap that works, I'm not saying magpul is the end all be all but they are where they're at because of affordability and marketing ,chris costas art of the dynamic sealing wounds with tampons and kungfu grips on dildos series isn't my thing but chris can teach very well and if it takes ninja shit to educate the retard mall cop masses on how not to fucking ND when showing off then so be it.

With charging handles BCM makes the gunfighter which has some nice features like easier to pull back as a normal charging handle as opposed to the regular two finger T shape pull and a generally more durable feel and build, not saying milspec just snaps off but hey some people like thick, the cost goes for about 60 (this is on the expensive end I've seen them on sale for about 40 to 50) of course if you are going RIFLE IS FINE a regular milspec T handle goes fot about sub 20.
For the bolt carrier group and bolt the important shit is a carpenter bolt this is a type of heat treatment that hardens the outside while making the inside flexible meaning it is less prone to breakage as opposed to through hardened which is brittler, no carpenter is not fancy snake oil this is milspec there is absolutely no reason to cheap out and go below the already fairly low standard, there is a 9 thousand some shit number bolt and from what I understand is better than the carpenter bolt in durability.
The other important thing about bolts is the little tube part on the carrier the gas key, other than staying away from mim (which is injected metal identifiable by injection marks like the dot on the bottom of a plastic bottle or "cast lines") is the staking, basically the key is held onto the carrier by screws and to keep them from unscrewing them selves the manfacturer takes a punch and creates two indents on each screw that move metal to touch the head of the screw, crap staking looks of centet or wont even touch the head.
Other than that there are snake oil bolts but just keep these few things in mind to decide your purchase.
Once all this is done now you have to chose a handguard thats a whole new pot of stirred shit but basically choose what you might need quad rails tend to be heavy but hey all that space (that you might not ever use ) drop in guards are usually the cheapest and most light but apparently cause less accuracy because it's not free float.
Sorry I cant put a solid price, man

Why all the hate for customization. Of course you can build a mil-spec AR15 for $500, but some people like to splurg. Hating someone because they use a specific manufactures products is like being mad at someone because they can afford a better car than you.
Me personally? I'd start out with just STANAG, but as time went on and I saved the bones, I'd get some the previous generation Magpul mags. In the end, they'll both work and I'll have plenty of mags.
Same goes for the map loops. Getting butthurt because someone bug Magpul, instead of using 550 cord is bringing yourself to a level of butthurt that's retarded. So some fucker wants to spend money, let 'em.

What tools do I need? Is this gun smithing shit? Why is my wang hard?) So i just said fuckit and bought a completed one off palmetto state (a2 handguards and big ass triangle on the front) but if you're willing to get shit done beyond what I was able to do then yeah a good stripped upper reciever is a place to start and my glorious knowledg of autistic gun shit leads me declare that
it's all the same shit
Unless its bcm then you can wave your dick at your anonymous strelok friends here abd call them poor fags because their lump of cut aluminium lacks a painted on BCM
No seriously they are really the same shit if you look closely at the upper just behind the case deflector towards the charging handle is a little mark that is a forge mark all these stripped uppers come from different forge houses and everyone has used them all atleast once (probably)

I really want to like the AR, but there's one thing that bothers me, namely, the lack of a reciprocating charging handle.
Let me share a little anecdote.
I got to shoot a buddy's AR once. We were shooting the cheapest steel cased ammo available, so it jammed frequently. I can't remember the exact nature of the malfunction, but the round would fail to eject and the bolt would be stuck slightly out of battery.
I must stress that this was the fault of the ammunition and not the firearm.
Regardless, the process of clearing the jam usually went as follows. Drop the mag, pull on the charging handle a couple of times. When that didn't work, hold the charging handle back and 'mortar' the gun. When that didn't work, stick a cleaning rod down the barrel and use a rubber mallet to force the bolt back and the cartridge out.
I don't want to condemn the design on the basis of one bad experience, but it seems to me that if something like this were to happen in a critical situation, you'd be screwed.
Anyone care to assuage my concerns?

Did you smash the foward assist or did it even come with one
also steel case ammo is good and works good the only problem is using it before brass cased because steel wont create a good gas seal a make a bit of carbon build up but brass expands and the built stuff becomes a lock like when firing 38spcl out of a 357 and then you create the ring of fire in the cylinder (you know like liquor before beer you're in the clear beer before liquor you've never been sicker) other than that it seems like it wasnt cleaned well just smash that shit with brushes and dental picks
16f134 No.323041

If you're mortaring it, it's usually a bolt override.
These are VERY rare malfunctions, but yes, they are a bitch to clear.
Basically, a cartidge gets stuck between the charging handle and the bolt, fucking up basically everything all at once.
It's a monster pain in the ass to clear, but the easier way to do it is basically to reach into the ejection port, pry the bolt open with something, and yank the fucking thing out, IMO.
YMMV.
Bolt over-rides are kind of like squibs, in terms of how fucked you are. They just happen to be field serviceable fuckups.

That's why I don't have any kind of fancy optic on there I can't justify buying a trijicon for 1600$ as nice as that would be I could arm 3 other people at that price besides the iron sight functions just fine out to 200yds. This is a myth. You can't sue someone while engaged in illegal activity. You can sue if, for example, they hold you down at a McDonalds after you tried to rob them and then proceed to pour hot grease on you.

I'd rather they go the fuck away than shoot them. Call me a pacifist faggot but I don't want to kill someone unless they're armed.
I learned lasers change position based on range. Got it zeroed but my first shots with 25 yards were high as hell. I shot better than the guys with 5k worth of tacticool shit. I didn't ask what brand AR, looked higher end with an actual EOTech and a tacticool stock (Looked like a foregrip stock). They were all over the paper. Did better with a Taurus PT-92 than the guy with a SW Shield. Range officers were impressed and the staff at the table said its the video games.
Most of all I had fun. Thanks for convincing us to get funs /k/.

Where can you get a new 20" AR-15 in the classic government profile?
They're as rare as hen's teeth now for some reason.
If I can't buy one can I build one? I don't want to invest in an entire machine shop just for one gun, is it possible.

Brownell's just came out with A1 uppers and lowers if you want to go that far into detail, I just ordered a 20" barrel, A2 upper and the rest of the junk I need for my next AR from Del-Ton. I didn't really look into Del-Ton's quality before I ordered, but I guess I'm going to find out.
And you don't need a machine shop to put together an AR, just a few wrenches and punches.

50703e No.327487

Its 7.62x39 but for AR15s, so it works with 30rd 5.56 mags, uses 5.56 bolts, can be make from 5.56 brass, and can swap between subsonic and supersonic loads without any adjustment of the gas system.
Its pretty good (see graph, more muzzle energy than 5.56 for any given barrel length) but if you don't reload its stupidly expensive, bullets are cheap and readily available since its .308 diameter.

The idea is muzzle break + some way to redirect the blast again, to avoid annoying the shit out of people at the range. Or making people deaf if you shoot indoors.
It's basically retarded. Run a brake and deal with it, or run a fucking flash hider. AR15's don't recoil that much in the first place.

What exactly does higher muzzle velocity at lower barrel lengths do for a .30 caliber bullet shot with pistol powder?
If I built one, I'd want to fill the void the AS VAL leaves in my heart for a supressed carbine capable of accurate ballistics up to 300 meters or more if necessary. I'm just wondering at the max effective range .300 blk has, and if I'd be able to make decently long range shots in a 10" barrel suppressed with sub/supersonic rounds.
For suppressed, does it matter if the round is supersonic? Will it just be louder if it is supersonic versus sub?

>What exactly does higher muzzle velocity at lower barrel lengths do for a .30 caliber bullet shot with pistol powder?
Accuracy wise? nothing.
>I'm just wondering at the max effective range .300 blk has, and if I'd be able to make decently long range shots in a 10" barrel suppressed with sub/supersonic rounds.
Both the subs and supers I shoot are stable out to well beyond that.
>For suppressed, does it matter if the round is supersonic?
No.
>Will it just be louder if it is supersonic versus sub?
You will still hear the sonic boom since that is a result of the bullet traveling faster than the speed of sound, all the suppressor takes away is the muzzle blast noise.
Embed demonstrates the sub/super difference, you need to listen carefully for the sonic boom on the supers because the microphone doesn't properly capture it.

What this guy said >>333793 but its more like 20 min for most places.
I live in Hamilton and there are 3 national parks about 20min away which I am allowed to hunt on, if you extend it to 40min then that number goes up to like a dozen. Permits are free for goats/pig/deer/etc and can be done online, ducks and waterfowl (during the season) and small game like rabbits there is licensing fees required, most districts wont give out small game licenses. No NV or spotlights and no hunting after after sunset or before sunrise, there are no caliber restrictions as far as I am aware.

the tan followers are anti-tilt, they have legs running down the sides like the Magpul followers. also prevents mag overloading damaging the feed lips. the army replacing them is perfectly sensible.
