What's a good saturday night special for a woman 60+?

If she likes cheapo multipurpose revolvers, get a .357 magnum revolver. This would let her shoot .357 magnums of course, but also .38 specials which are easier on the recoil, and .38 shotshells which are fun anti-snake/anti-rat rounds.

Does she have osteoporosis? In that case a Ruger .22lr handgun will give the least recoil and is the easiest managed.

If she's healthy but inexperienced then a cheap .40SW or 9mm handgun, if she's healthy and experienced then a .357 SIG or .45 ACP.

Not OP but thank you for this post. She has a airlight(weight?) S&W 642 and the recoil is too much for her hands. She has a older S&W from the '70s with an exposed hammer which helps plus being a few ounces heavier. What about a Tarus Judge or S&W governor? Would this be a good option for a woman with arthritis?

This Strelok has the right idea with getting a revolver. A decently weighty (but not so heavy that she can't hold it steady) .357 revolver loaded with .38 special is likely the lowest recoil you can find whilst still being effective for self defence.

Governors are for people who reload. They can then for example hot-load the .45 colts and get mindblasting performance out of them.

The "airweight" appendix means it has a larger portion of lighter materials, like aluminium. I remember one derringer made of titanium that cost like $700.

People often buy them for things like ankle holsters, because a heavier gun would drag it down and make it uncomfortable. Lightweight guns arent good for old ladies because they increase recoil.

I'd say get her to sell the airweight SW642 which should be $400-500 even used, and buy an older heavier gun which looks like it was cared for. Maybe the governor or the .357 mag, whatever she likes the feel of. It's key to let her finger a gunstore gun or maybe rent guns at ranges to see what she likes the feel of though.

WARNING: DO NOT SHOOT .357 MAGNUM CARTRIDGES FROM THE SW642 AIRWEIGHT!!!!

Thanks for the warning I knew that but do all .357 mag shoot .38??. Yea, I do need to find something for her and for now, she will have to make do with her mid '70s S&W. She shot 8 rounds from my Glock43 which she instantly wanted. I thought about a M&P sheild but she doesn't have much strength in racking the slide. which she fails to understand why it matters after explaining; "Just keep one round in the chamber, it'll be fine lad."

Yes, because the .38 is weaker than .357.

Same diameter, so they fit in the same guns, but the magnum is stronger and can rip apart weaker guns.

So best buy a gun built for a magnum, then you can downgrade to a weaker cartridge safely all you like.

She likely thinks she won't use it except in cases of self defense. You could get a Beretta with a tip-up barrel, which doesn't need rack sliding. Or just settle with a revolver.

Bro, 38 Special guns won't chamber .357Mag due to the latter being a tad bit longer, it was designed specifically to prevent people handgrenading their revolvers.

top kek

I have to agree with the .357 with .38 special loads. Plus who's going to want to fuck with some granny swinging around a big ass magnum? Her just yanking the thing out of her purse will cause your average punk to flee.

Haven't we agreed that we'd stop telling them to buy them.

OP should have his gram-gram CC an Obrez nugget.

File: 1457995113476.jpg (69.18 KB, 889x502, 889:502, That's So Raven.jpg)

A Raven Arms MP-25 is probably the cheapest self-defence handgun that won't explode in your hand. It's suitable for old ladies and just about anyone else (besides the ones with more money to spend, of course). There's a dizzying array of reasons why I would choose this as my conceal carry over anything else:

>Comes in a variety of many wonderful colours.

>Reliable, Accurate, Dependable (surprisingly so, as a matter of fact)

>Very easy to disassemble and reassemble. All you really need is a common flat-head screwdriver and it only has about a dozen components holding it together.

>CHEAP! I wouldn't pay anything over 80 dollars for it because if it were any higher: I would just buy a Hi-Point.

>Replaceable! Once you use it on a mugger or a robber: it's going to get confiscated as evidence and, in that case, you're never getting your gun back (I think. At least, that's what I'm lead to believe after playing Police Quest I). If I happen to be mistaken: then your gun's coming back in worse condition than it was before so use a Raven for self-defence before using your very expensive Colt 1911 long-slide with stainless steel finish because it's not going to be such a big deal when it comes back to you after the police dick around with it. You can always buy another one if worse comes to worst.

>Fun range toy. .25 ACP is pretty pricey but I hear a lot of testimonials that it's delightful to shoot.

Of course, take that with a grain of salt. I don't have any guns. Until I can get my CC permit: I'm going to use a deck of cards and a swift kick to the nuts with my steel-toe boots so I might not know what the hell I'm talking about.

what Saturday Night Special do you think would be best to emulate in a home built design? I'd like to shoot for .380ACP

467cb0 No.336401

I need to grab some MP-25 magazines, they work flawlessly apparently. 25ACP is tricky since it's slightly semi-rimmed and the case has a taper.
