Could some of the more historically interested side of /k/ tell me what was issued to ww1 solders and their practical application (ie were some things just thrown away/ unintended use) I'd be curious to hear what the solders were issued from a fairly under appreciated war (bf5 plz verdun is buggy as hell)

Not 100% sure what era the gas mask one is from but it makes sense since there were problems in WWI of soldiers misusing their gas masks.

I wouldn't mind a WW1 History lesson with Professor /k/ cause I feel ashamed that I don't know more about it. I don't even know much about the Western Front let alone the Alps and Eastern.

Listen to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History on World War 1.

http://www.dancarlin.com/product/hardcore-history-50-blueprint-for-armageddon-i/

>Soldiers would often get stuck in the mud and often drown, screaming as they go deeper down

>Often they'd plead for another solider to kill them

>Buried bodies would often come up during the rain

>Young men would get harassed by pretty ladies to volunteer

>The beginning of the war had French soldiers wearing bright outfits, using firing lines, advancing every 20 seconds, and Calvary while the Germans had machine guns, artillery, trenches, and dull outfits; absolutely destroying the French

>Japan completely locked down a German port before German submarines pushed them back

>Eastern Front was mostly fought outside of trenches

>Serbia for example fought atop mountains shooting down at advancing Austrian-Hungarian forces

>Similar to the second World War, Germany had shit allies.

Nine European Sovereigns at Windsor for the funeral of King Edward VII in May of 1910, four years before the war began. Standing, from left to right: King Haakon VII of Norway, Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria, King Manuel II of Portugal, Kaiser Wilhelm II of the German Empire, King George I of Greece and King Albert I of Belgium.

Also next picture is The Japanese fleet off the coast of China in 1914. Japan sided with the United Kingdom and its allies, attacking German interests in the Pacific, including island colonies and leased territories on the Chinese mainland.

Belgian soldiers with their bicycles in Boulogne, France, 1914. Belgium asserted neutrality from the start of the conflict, but provided a route into France that the German army coveted, so Germany declared it would "treat her as an enemy", if Belgium did not allow German troops free passage.

>or more like the Austrians' since you didn't exist until sucking Nazi dick

The popular belief about the Croatian state and people being a newfangled concoction that only came about in WW2 is easily debunked by actually reading a history book. If you look closely that some of the titles carried by the Austrian Emperors you can see "King of Dalmatia, Croatia and Slavonia". Which represents the historic continuity of the Croatian state (Three Kingdoms or Trojedna Kraljevina) and its place as a autonomous region in Habsburg Monarchy. Before that we were in a Personal Union with Hungary. People also tend to forget that the Austrians also held the title of "King of Bohemia" but the Czechs and Slovaks never get any of the shit we get. They also forget that Serbia spent 4 centuries as "Sanjak of Smederevo" under the Ottomans and before that the Serb Despotate sent troops to aid the Ottomans as part of their Vassal agreement.

I'm not sure where you people get this shit.

One more thing, I didn't deny the failure of the Austrian war effort I was just saying that the Italian Front was the only place where Austrian troops coming from Croatia had high morale and were motivated to fight. On other fronts there was general unwillingness to fight and widespread desertion. Some of the deserters even became bandits who robbed local farmers.

>and its place as a autonomous region in Habsburg Monarchy. Before that we were in a Personal Union with Hungary.

No, you were still an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Hungary. But the Habsburg emperor was also the king of Hungary. That's why it was called the K.u.K. army, it stood for kaiserlich und königliche, Imperial and Royal.

4bbb54 No.330140

It was always defined as a personal union in all the history books I have read, two countries under one leader.

8629df No.330290

>>330140

In our history books it says that Croatia was an autonomous territory of Saint Stephen's crown, led by the bán of Croatia.

But at this point it's just semantics. The important thing is that he Habsubrgs sometimes threated you as a completely independent territory, and other times as a part of Hungary. It depended on them being tsun or dere at the moment.

I recommend /k/ to read Ernst Junger's "Storm of Steel" as it describes the vicious trench fighting of the Western Front. That book is pure /k/

In WW1 Latvia… oh wait, we got our first independence there. Officaily we did shit only after 1918th, which was some minor fighting with estonians, as they were not trying to steal our trains at all.

>But in WW2 we welcomed germans with flowers and met red army with fire never realy letting Kurland to be occupied by their army. Suck it, USSR.

Yeah, not much to tell about our part in WW1
