>Go to range for the first time in a long time

>Have acquired SKS and 1911

>Not totally familiar with weapon

>Turns out that the gas port rotates. I had a Yugo with a sight for a rifle grenade, so I thought that the button was only for locking the sight down

>When the sight's up and the button's up, it rotates the gas port to prevent the gas from the nade going through and fucking up the system

>I had it up the whole time

>I spent three hours at the range cycling my SKS like a bolt action

>Other guys looked over and said to one another "Well, his gas system is blocked up."

>I just shrugged and they came over

>Guy says "I have two SKS's, I love these weapons"

>Took the gas system off, looked at me, and told me I needed to apply lube

>Slathered lube all over my weapon until it was sopping wet

>I put two rounds in, no fix, obviously

>They went away, I started firing the 1911

>Turns out the extractor is shit, failure to eject every three rounds

>I feel like the laughingstock of the range

>Get home, cleaning SKS, look at gas port, realize how stupid we all are

27da4a No.327906

>go to range to site in my .308 remington 770 at 100 yards

>forget to bring binoculars and my contacts fall out

>range is like an hour away from home, fuck it im going to stay

>the factory mounted scope is bore sighted, ok

>I keep firing at paper, I hit it every time but I cannot tell where due to poor vison until firing stops in 15 min intervals

>finally get it kinda sighted in and realize that the scope is shit and wont hold a zero after about 5 rounds, at 100 yards

>get pissed, I wanted to site it in and drove so far to do it but scope is shit

>fire 80 rounds trying to get the scope to hold the zero

>two boyscouts next to me with binoculars watching my shots

>hey mister, you totally missed the paper on that one!

>stfu kid

Autismo moments thread?

>go to range with .30-06 moose rifle to zero my "new" scope (used Leupold Scandinavian 1-4X 20mm)

>scope is attached with weaver scope rings that are probably older than my 1970s rifle (pic related, it's a more modern model of the same rings)

>start shooting

>hitting way off

>eventually dial it onto the paper

>zero keeps wandering strangely around the target

>notice that my reticle is now canted

>examine the scope

>see that it has moved

>put it back roughly where it's supposed to be

>tighten down the screws harder

>shoot another 20-or so rounds trying to dial the scope in

>zero keeps wandering

>scope keeps moving in the rings

>curse over how shitty old scope rings I found in my grandpa's old box of gun stuff are

>tighten down the screws retard-hard

>shooting about a 5-inch group at 30M, which is pathetic since my rifle usually shoots just a hair over 1MOA with the ammo I'm using

>I've shot about 80 rounds trying to zero this motherfucker of a scope by now (not using a proper bench BTW, just trying to freehand a somewhat decent hunting zero)

>realize my reticle is canted over again

>examine the scope and the mounts once again

>notice that the little tabs on the upper parts of the rings are not correctly fitted into the slots on the lower halves of the rings

>they must have slipped out of there when I put the screws in at home and I failed to notice it until now

>feel immense shame

>try to fix it without anyone else at the range seeing how retarded I am

>fix it

>try to zero again

>rifle puts 4 rounds in a single hole not much larger than a thumb nail

>only takes like 4 more rounds to get it shooting where I wanted it

>Realize I wasted like 90 rounds by being retarded.

Well, he's obviously never owned a Yugo, because that should have been the first thing he checked.

Well they say "to err is human"

I would have felt better about it, had I not mocked my brother relentlessly for doing something almost identical a few weeks earlier.

It's a joke based on the fact that modern scouts are more and more removing any notion of firearms from their activities. They seem to only bake cookies and serve as buttboys for gay camp leaders now.

I've supervised boyscouts at the range getting their badges or something recently. Most of them didn't really need supervision, and a few were crack shots.

Don't believe everything you read in the news.

>Spent 3 hours cycling SKS like a bolt action

How did you not think something was wrong? How did you not think to ask someone for help? Most people past 25 are very willing to help a person who has no idea what they are doing.

Get over your social fears.

bd97ec No.329237

>>328239

I did ask people. I have no social fears, man. One guy had a Tavor and wouldn't shut up about how great the Tavor is while spouting off all the features that make the weapon terrible as if they were good things. He looked at me and told me I needed to clean my gas system.

Another guy came over and said that he had two SKS's, that he loved the weapons and was super duper familiar with them. He told me I should lube my gas system.

Everyone there at the range was as clueless as I was.

> Take britbong shooting

> Guy loves guns, hates the UK

> Started with 22, he's pretty good with it

> Normally play a lot of vidya with him

> Give a very simple explanation of how to load AK

> Assuming he gets it since we play CSGO all the time and he's seen how it's done, also because he's into guns

> Turn around to go load up some magazines for the 22

> "Hey this is correct right?"

> Turn around, give it a glance, looks fine to me

> "Yep, just rack the charging handle back to chamber a round, have fun."

> Turn back around, continue loading mags

> Hear sound of him cycling the action and letting the go forward freely

> Immediately followed by 2 sounds I did not expect

> Mag falls out, hits table, falls forward across the firing line

> I did this to myself.

> go get range employee, he gives me a shovel they use for scooping up brass

> get mag back

> Give a much more thorough explanation about how to properly load it

> Back to loading .22 mags

> "Hey there's some sort of failure to feed issue."

> That's odd, though he did just drop a loaded mag from standing height, better check it out

> Sure enough, magazine follower is stuck about halfway up, not feeding rounds.

> Hand him another mag, tell him not to worry, it was my bad

> Now how am I gonna fix this fucking thing?

> Shake all the cartridges out

> Look at it for a moment

> If I were Mikhail Kalashnikov designing this thing, what would I expect a Soviet Conscript to do right now?

> Slam magazine on table

> Follower freed, magazine works properly

> mfw can't believe that actually worked
