The chapter is part of our program, and they put some political issues in the bunch to invite us to debate and do it in english to develop vocabulary and speech. Even if right now, we spend more time analyzing propaganda documents like the first picture and learn a little history on America's stance on guns than actually debate, but it happens fairly often. And we do learn english in the process, that's the point. They simply give us complex issues to analyze to be sure that we can do it in english.

Why have guns significantly changed conflict all over the world centuries ago? Because the force comes from a chemical reaction, moving a projectile over a somewhat straight path, hundreds of meters into the distance. Earlier distance and melee weapons (bows, swords, etc.) needed the wielder to be proficient and strong to have an effect. With muskets, you just had to teach someone how to load, cock, aim and shoot the rifle and BAM you have an efficient soldier. That is how line infantry was born.

Not really. In German weapons law (Waffengesetz) these are treated separately for two reasons mainly:

1. A firearm is something that fires a projectile through a barrel (doesn't apply to bows and crossbows)

Where did I disagree with that? I didn't. I am very well aware that there are about 5.000.000.000 people out there in poverty and taking some millions in every year does not help the issue at all.
