A basic claw hammer is legal to carry as long as you can make up some shit excuse.

There are many knives including Kershaw ones with Speedsafe and other folding knives intended for quick deployment. Fixed blade is better but may be banned or might be inconvenient to carry.

Stun gun and pepper spray are ok too.

I too live with my (aging) parents that dislike guns. I still have a PS90 and a AK47. They are fine with it as long as I keep it locked up. Although my dad has a gun too his Dad passed down to him and kept it even though he is super liberal and hates guns so maybe he isn't totally anti gun.

On that note if you want a gun i don't even know what is Cali compliant. So get a pistol in 9mm for an urban area or .357 if you live in a semi mountainous rural area. Or a MAC10 clone if you want to look cool. Keep it in your car or some shit and don't tell them about it. When that big earthquake comes your family will be glad you have it.

Technically, all the Handguns are legal to own. It's buying that's the issue. You either buy from the handgun roster or a second hand off roster bought buy a police officer since they can buy whatever or from someone who owned it before the roster or before it fell off

More or less, our knife laws are, if it's pointy, it is a knife and must be openly carried. If it can be made unpointy, it can be conceal carried. Size only matters in some shit hole towns no one likes.

Oddly enough, knives only aren't restricted because they have a purpose as a tool. Which is why bats, batons and the like are out right illegal for carry since you can't use them for much but hitting shit.

Still funny though since, as I mentioned, the big point is the point. I'm pretty sure knives like the BK3 and those crazy Spetsnaz machetes that look like clubs aren't considered knives and are just tools since they have flat ends with no point
