What shall the peasantry desire next, a ballista?

Mayhaps you should relocate to the safety of the burg, to better alleviate your fear of all weapons large.

>knife

Whom dost thou think ye are fooling, peasant?

The blade in said illustration is clearly a large sword, an instrument of death.

Ye can tell by yon shoulder thing that goes up.

Not a mere fortnight ago was I accosted at the market while carrying mine sword in sheath.

A dame turned hysterical upon seeing the weapon, and wailed most loudly to the crowds present - "zounds! He hath a weapon, a sword! He is of the same disposition as a Saracen! A Nave! He conspireth to slay us all!"

The Sherrif's men were soon on scene, having heard the commotion. The officers quickly realised the quandary was not of an armed brigand, but that of a common scold.

The inconsolable lass was taken to the cucking stool. May it calm and soothe her wild temperament.

Thank goodness, I thought I were the only sane manne here.

Thou simply dost not need a two-handed sword, or a halberd. For they art military wǣpens.

If thee should ever be accosted by a Saracen, thou might simply swing thine coinpurse around in a threatening manner. Or better thee yet, blow a loud whistle to summon the constabulary!

Verily! Yield me not consensus that the harryment of prey is undertaken in great effect with implementation that not exceedeth one armlength of a small child? To say one needeth more be absurd, and rue say I to those would-be barbers of kings-meat whom sling towards prey with river rock of smooth curve and great haft, say thee 'tis for huntings all', bah, but for hunting of armored knights need thee pole affixed slings of such capability!

Hath you backwards luddite scoundrels forgotten the ways of man? Thou hast lost yourselves and your faith; and so repent, I say! Pray the God-Emperor forgive your willingful ignorance and thank him for bringing his divine light upon the darkness of your world!

thou cans't collect taxes with yonder catapults, or mounted upon thy steed.

to thus complete thy boisterous expedition, thine forces needs must dismount and upon a peasant hovel thou must make your way…. wherefrom a cur may put a yard of pilewood through thy breast.

My good sir, surely you must speak in jest! Am I correct in my belief that your heart yearns to fight against the lawful representatives of the divinely appointed monarch?

Your words, if not made in jest, must be in error for if they are not then what separates your good self from the brigands? What separates you from the blackamoor raiders that plague the southern coast of the French, Italian, or Spanish kingdoms?

Sir, thou art indistinguishable from these raiders.

Speak unto mine hand, for the face comprehendeth it not.

And that they, who of late so much blame Deposing, are the Men that did it themselves

Hark after the nonsense flowing from the lips of this simpleton!

Whilst today it may be little more than a curiosity for those possessed of more alcymic inclined minds, with sufficient time and thought imagine the changes this could bring!

I foresee a time where men no longer fight with sword, or spear, or even ride upon horses! A world where there exist giant flying weapons, capable of cutting through the ranks of any enemy, the thought drives me to terror, I hear it's unnatural noise as it echoes through both my dreams and nightmares alike!

Brrrrrrt!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!
