Finished unmoded Far Cry 2 a couple of weeks ago. The weapons animations are horrible, but the game is pretty ok (if you don't mind repetitive missions). This game really missed the oportunity to be Stalker in Africa. The setting is great. The enemy AI is great. Ok number of weapons. All it needed was a better storyline (specially at the end) and better characters. It can still be a thrill if you play on Infamous difficulty.

I'm playing it again with the 'Infamous Fusion' mod that is a compilation of mods that changes a lot of things to make it harder and more realistic. No more GPS map, rebalance and unlock all weapons, chest or head shot kills instantly with most weapons, less ammo, no more hunt for malaria pills, no more safehouse icons.

There's just limitations on what you can do effectively using the Doom engine, and HD is right on the cusp of it. The fact that you can't lean around shit,a pretty crucial element for this kind of tacticool gameplay says it all. The mechanics physically cannot translate into this form.

I'd be with the character having a few lines here and there. As for enemies, there should be armored vehicles and artillery going off if you let them call it in. However, because you are a merc you most likely can call in your boss-man to conduct a shelling.

For the rest of the ingame stuff, a few radio stations ala GTA that you only can listen on various bars and in cars would be nice to give the world a bit more flavor.

I do agree you on the whole focus on survival stuff. As for poisonous plants, you should be able to buy a book that can help you identify the plants. If you read it, the game automatically points out what you have picked up. It's a little bit of extra usability that gives the game more flavor.

I'd make it so some radio stations are too far away to be part of the game map, mainly to represent the Radio Free Europe and offshore pirate radio style operations. The local stations are propaganda and/or music.

For transportation, I'd add in some motorcycles to the mix. They are fast but can kill you if you are careless. It really isn't a proper third world country if there aren't any Honda Cubs around.

THe most /k/ games I played were STALKER, War Thunder, Insurgency, World of Guns disaasembly (weapon's simulator, you can mount and dismount them and other cool things). And if you like survival mmo genre, Unturned is pretty good if you don't mind graphics like minecraft.

Also I recommend you to play stardew valley, it is not /k/ related but is a pretty good indie game type Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing that is comfy as fuck.
