That archery video needs to die. I'm not going to go into a full point-by-point rebuttal because others have done that better than I could but I will address a few points.

This guy is doing trick shots in controlled settings, and using partial draws with a low-powered bow. It does not represent techniques used by war archers. They usually had bows that started at 60 lb draw weight and went up from there to well over 100 lbs.

Ancient art isn't the most reliable source of information, especially art depicting battles. This was often commissioned after the fact, produced by people who weren't present or familiar with tactics and equipment, and had more to do with glorifying the event than conveying an accurate portrayal of the battle. Few ancient artwork depicting battles accurately depict the soldiers as they would have appeared or the kit they would have carried with them (no water bottles, bed rolls, back packs, sometimes even clothing was omitted).

The final point I wanted to bring up was the idea that archers would pick up and use enemy arrows. This did not happen because war arrows used special warheads (see where the modern term comes from?) that were only loosely fixed to thicker, heavier shafts. These were stuck on with wax or string in such a way that if the arrow missed the target and landed in the dirt, pulling on the arrow would separate the two pieces, leaving the head in the ground. While it would have been possible to shoot the headless arrow it would likely have experienced stability and accuracy problems either due to the lack of a head or to being damaged by it's first flight, and it would have done little or no damage to an enemy without the head. Getting hit with a twig hurts but it's seldom fatal.

Archery is a good skill, especially in a survival setting, but trick shots do not put dinner on the table or save you from an unwelcome conjugal visit. Learn real, practical archery.

9d8837 No.509394

>>509333

Its more about considering archery in cucked countries than telling anons that with a little practice they can become legolas. I remember talking about it with a brit last thread and I wanted to remind those in stupid countries that guns, while newer tech, can be substituted with a limited, but still very lethal, weapon that doesn't need licensure.

b0c511 No.509400

>>509333

Except that it is extremely unlikely for many artists in different places at different times to depict archery in the same way. Not to mention that since archery was much more common back then, they might have seen it first hand, for example with a hunter. In addition, depending on the country, the artist may indeed have military experience, like in Ancient Greece or the Roman Republic where the armies were made up of the citizenry.

>Few ancient artwork depicting battles accurately depict the soldiers as they would have appeared or the kit they would have carried with them (no water bottles, bed rolls, back packs, sometimes even clothing was omitted).

Ancient artwork doesn't depict soldiers with kit because they didn't carry their kit. Their equipment was stored in their camp and on march was carried by a slave/attendant or carried in the baggage train.

The idea that archers would pick up and use enemy arrows is probably bullshit though. Where did you read about these specialty heads? How common were these and when were they in use? I wouldn't doubt that something like this was done, since a similar idea was used by the Romans in the pilum, but I'm more curious who actually came up with this idea.

Side note, why didn't anyone tell me how awesome MRE's are? I picked up a variety pack (2017 inspection date) and I am absolutely blown away by how decent they taste and how luxurious they are in comparison to the trash (everyone loves SPAM, right?) I used to take camping.

I know you can't use them to build a survival plan off of but IMO they are a necessity for adding the occasional morale-boosting luxury of a good hot meal with actual variety in flavors/textures.

Of course, I'm talking about the military-style MREs. The Mountain Home style foodstuffs appear to be sodium and carb bombs that aren't worth it.

The problem with hydroponics is that you need to buy dry (or liquid but that'd be dumb) fertilizer and keep adding it so the plants don't die. You can store quite a bit of those dry nutrients, but they probably wouldn't last you more than 1 growing season. Raised beds are far superior. Hell traditional farming is good too. Admittedly raised beds/traditional farming is more labor intensive.

>Corn and chickens will keep you alive.

Until you get scurvy that is. The only Corn that has any significant amount of Vitamin C is sweet corn (which is a bitch to grow, and spoils much more easily than dent corn.) and a 140 pound person would need just over 6 cups a day to get that. And that's me being generous. Also, how are you planning on fertilizing the soil every year if your staple food was going to be corn? That shit sucks nitrogen and other nutrients out of the soil as hard as Hillary sucks nigger dick.

Chickens are a good source of protein and fat, so they're actually really good choices for livestock. But what would you feed them? The corn that you're trying to grow for your family? That wouldn't have the calcium they need and their eggs would get brittle before they eventually just died off. Besides, you'd have to grow so much fucking corn that there's no way you'd be able to sustain that without synthetic fertilizer.

You we would need a diverse selection of plant species that can grow in multiple climates, aren't too taxing on the soil, has a short growth period, and can be stored through the winter. We'd also need a form of livestock that can eat the scraps from the farm/house without lacking any significant amount of nutrition, while supplying the fats and proteins we need. We need radishes, potatoes, wheat/rye, and meal worms.

Potential tropical storm/Cat 1 coming to my AO in the next couple days. If it's likely to be only rain we will be bugging in, but if they power goes out we will be displacing to a friend's house if they have power or leaving the city. Staying with no A/C in a second floor apartment in S Tx heat with an 11wk old will not be happening. Stocked some extra water and food yesterday that's easy to prep, will be topping off the gas tanks in my Tacoma and the wife's SUV and probably getting more water/filling the containers I already have today after work.

Radios and batteries will get tested and bags rechecked tonight as well. Looking at the possibility of a lot of flooding for our area, especially if it stalls out on top of us.

I just hope you have local repeaters saved to your radio just in case cell towers go down. Even without AC, we as humans have survived millenia in humid climes without technology, don't risk your family to move during the storm just to save yourself some temporary discomfort.

Will only move when safe to do so. Sticking the wife and kid in one of the vehicles with A/C will work short term, but if it's days, we will move.

I would suggest buying all the rice and potatoes you can get your hands on, they're easy to cook and can keep your body running for months if needs be.

I would also suggest getting out of dodge now instead of waiting to see if the storm will be too much. Drive inland, somewhere safe, and have a camping trip until the storm passes.

It may not be ideal, but it's better than sitting in an apartment and praying that your kid doesn't die of heatstroke.

Almost makes me wish I lived on the east coast so I could help out more than just giving tips on an image board.

I take it the 11wk old your kid? Keep him safe strelock. Keep us posted.

Hie,

(not, this board is certainly not dead),

I wanted to focus, if possible, the discussion upon autonomy, and I mean by that depending the less possible on any consumable.

Because a lot of prep website make list of what you absolutely need to buy, and mostly stop there. How do you grow you own food in a time of chaos, how to make your own soap, how to survive when you're in the middle of a city in chaos, with only a knife in your pocket.

And this part of the problem is from my point of view very important, because in a case of very long term chaos, nothing consumable will last. Other than that, you could simply be stolen. A gun at the back of your head, and you're left with only your pants, if you're lucky.

Let's so talk about skills that make you (and your group) very autonomous. Maybe let's list some tools/equipment that you'd absolutely need to actually start to work (metal/plastic recipients for example, extremely valuable).

It may be pretty easy to tell for a farmer, but me living in a city, I'm pretty much unable, to build a house for exemple.

5bb346 No.521640

>>521627

Non-expert opinion inbound:

I'd imagine dumpster diving to play a pretty big role while you're in the city. Figure out where the trash goes and what trash is useful. Shouldn't be too hard to find metal pipes or something, for various uses. However, given the high population of cities, they're probably going to get combed over more than less developed areas, so you should probably prioritize getting out, not that that's a new insight or anything.

At that point, it's your classic wilderness survival skills. If you master your primitive skills/bushcraft, the availability of any modern materials should only help.

When it comes to anything involving building structures from scratch (beyond the survival structures you can learn about any-damn-where), you'll probably want the skills in this book:

http://www.pioneeringprojects.org/resources/ebooks/sceng.pdf

There's also this book I downloaded when I could find it online, called "The Knowledge: How to Rebuild Civilization in the Event of a Collapse". It was written by some Britfag, but the information is pretty fascinating. A good group with that information in a post-apocalypse should be able to re-industrialize in relatively short order. I can't find any download links for it anymore, though.

There's also the Pole Shift Survival Information website, a collection of links and files that serve a lot of the same purposes as the book mentioned above. I downloaded their archive and realized that a lot of their information is poorly sorted, there are multiple copies of some files, and others are just previews. I re-organized, deleted, and got full versions wherever I could. Comes out to over 10 GB.

Well, its why I started the zeemaps because what is just as important as having a shtf plan is having a set of bros who are competent enough to make it happen. Believe it or not, unless you already have schematics, a lot of shtf is just trial and error and field expedient improvisation. No matter how well your plans may be, assume that a variable will change and learn to adapt. For example: Instead of worrying about building a house in the middle of a city, train yourselves in tactical, hand signal based room clearing. This way, you can make any place you steal yours. Then focus on comms to make sure you guys can provide your new hideout with security.

> What crops to grow for a nutritionally adequate diet

I'm trying to get a solid fix on this. I'm trying to figure out what I need to grow for a complete diet (vitamins, minerals, and all) that grows well aeroponically. I'm trying to see how much I can miniaturize a growing operation. If I can get it small enough, I want to keep it indoors and use solar tubes to grow on a low profile and minimize power consumption.

Do you have any good resources for this? I've been figuring that I'd probably have to work bugs into my diet for animal nutrients, but beyond that, I'm having a hard time finding detailed nutrition information on most plants, and trying to check each plant I can think of is tedious.

The Kurds are literal communists you autistic CIA nigger supporting moron. Their official title is the Kurdistan Workers' Party, their entire propaganda campaign is based off of their woman fighters, and their sole support comes from the CIA. They're self described Marxists, yet here you are making excuses for them like a fucking nigger. No fucking shit a ragtag paramilitary group doesn't have a centralized economy. Next you're going to be defending the IRA.

The rebels on the other hand, receive support from Marxists, and have Marxists in their groups, but that's all. They also like to use national socialist symbolism, while at the same time call the Russians Nazis while being called Nazis them selves.

No, the Kurds are Islamist. They pretended to be communist to get weapons aid from Enver Hoxha and USSR. Same as like 10% of Albanians pretend to be Christian to get the Popes aid in WWI and WWII. It's called Taqqiya and is a very popular tactic for Muslims, essentially they're encouraged to pretend to be someone else in order to get a long term benefit for Islam. They continued pretending hoping to still get funds from China, but the clandestine ties between them have fallen through since 2017 when China decided to throw their support behind Iraq.

Kurdistan is another step in the globalist agenda. Kurdistan is on every recent globalist map. It's fully supported by the CIA and the mossad. The goal is to split Syria, to let Israel eat from its territory, and the companies to go take the oil without problem (the same strategy done in Lybia, colonisation through continous war and chaos).

Who the fuck cares if they're communist/liberals. It's the same shit.

If you truly think that there is an opposition here worth being mentioned, seriously, you're a brainlet. And maybe dumb enough to be in infantry.

The funniest thing about gommunists from Russian Empire is that they shared one of their main reasons to exist with German Nazis, and this reason isn't something they teach you at school. You see, while in both countries declining aristocracy was predominantly indigenous, there was also noticeable amount of Jews among businessmen. People who are still known for their inability of assimilation, growing stronger every day. So redistribution of their property was crucial for the national security, and that occurred in different ways.

Can we have a discussion on the drugs to grab when SHTF? Mostly percription drugs in the US Or if you live in China you can just ask for them LOL I'm looking at Levaquin (fluoroquinolones) Amikacin,Tetracycline, Dapsone, Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole, diaminodiphenyl sulfone and Artemisinin in particular.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is common in burn patients and or those with deep wounds where there is a lack of oxygen. fluoroquinolones tend to cure that specific strain of bacteria effectively in comparison to others (Other antibotics have reduced resistance). The strain also resides where it is damp, or large bodies of warm water. In addition, it is opportunistic, so it's good to keep around if anyone gets sick.

Don't use it unless your absolutely sure though, that shit causes nerve damage, dizziness, light sensitivity or death sometimes (But better than dying slowly of fucking burn wounds).

Amikacin is another last resort drug for those with resistant-bacteria.

Artemisinin is used to cure malaria in China (It's also surprisingly effective against fevers too ) It WILL be the most bitter shit you will taste in your life. Trust me, I've taken it

Tetracycline is used for Lyme disease, malaria and god forbid some STDS

Dapsone is used to treat TB GET THE DAMN VACCINE

Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMZ) are used for Urinary/eye/burn infections, be careful as you need to drink a lot of water with this one as it used to be synthisized with aluminium (not sure anymore) to be absorbed into human body. May cause severe irritation via sunligh exposure. Also used if you get unlucky with cholera.

diaminodiphenyl sulfone for Leprosy

Any current gen Beta-lactum (Penicillin, amoxicillin, etc)

Vaccines to get for infectious diseases:

TB, Hepatitis A/B, tetanus, Cholrea, Rabies, Q fever, polio, Dengue fever if in S. US, Lyme disease.

Try to format this in a coherent sorry for reddit-tier autism manner. Anyone feel like chiming in? The main reason I put in agents to cure infectious diseases is that there will be times you wont be able to purify water Or if you don't know how, good luck.

MFW the only reason I know this is because my grandmaw studies infectious diseases for a living

Does anyone know how useful someone would be if they could synthesize antibiotics during SHTF???? I don't (read: currently acquiring) have funz cause I'm just 18 so yeah. In addition, I probably have all the first aid skills but lack on the survival skills. NO I'M NOT A SURGEON… but I can try

Good question! However we can only learn from those who have lived through such things, and even in venezuela and bosnia the main drugs needed where painkillers and antibiotics. That's cool that you're thinking about specifics, but unless you plan on running an apothecary, I think you should just think of the basics.

b510c1 No.525265

>>525264

The reason I asked is because beta-lactum (Penicillin derived) are falling out of use with resistant bacteria. I'm talking about dealing with infectious diseases and injury related because regular (beta-lactum) antibiotics can't kill some of the common shit like that Pseudomonas aeruginosa I have an infection of that shit. It sucks cause you can get it from swimming and getting water in your nose. It sucks that there is little info on this cause most people would probably survive SHTF here only to die to like a MRSA infection. Also, I think that it is important to keep such medication on hand cause it also means that the network of members that you can trust doesn't decreases at a faster rate you can increase it.

My grandmaw worked in infectious disease in China during the cultural revolution and the stamping out of malaria and shit. She taught me a lot on the infectious diseases. She can also probably teach me synthesis of synthetic anitbodies and painkillers cause she taught herself that.

I'm mainly worried about infectious diseases due to the fact that Malaria might come back in the US rapidly, and that TB/Heptatits/STDs will be prevalent. Hell, think if all the cities stopped being able to control the rodent population, I'd bet on outbreak of plague to be possible.

How long do contact lenses stay viable in their original packaging? Maintaining my vision is the #1 unsolved problem for me in a SHTF scenario because I have sever astigmatism to the point that traditional glasses are effectively useless. I wear hybrid (solid polycarbonate center, soft edge) contacts that are custom sized so it's not like they'll be easy to quire even if society returns to a moderately advanced state in a matter of years rather than decades.

Luckily, the "strength" of my correction isn't that high (-3.00, -3.75) and that has been stable for over a decade now. I'm not completely blind without them but I would be useless as a fighter or sentry. Right now my plan is to buy 2-3 years worth of lenses as I can stretch them to last 5+ years assuming they can last that long in storage without problems. Does this sound reasonable?

They didn't threaten to exterminate communists, they thhreatened to exterminate Russians specifically. Which forced them into communism, because that was the only group not threatening to exterminate them.

Same with the west.

SJWs are not threatening to exterminate racists, they're threatening to exterminate whites. Which is forcing whites into nationalism, as that's the only group that won't exterminate them.

It's a pure defensive move, wouldn't have happened without Ukrainian initiation, which sort of sinks the whole "ebul russians did everything" narrative.

Bro, do you know how many different groups operate there? You've got everything from Anarchists to people who want a Tsar back. May I see any news about actual ethnic cleansings in 2014, you fucking leaf? Russians are the second largest ethnic group here who's assimilating pretty fine, as well as Ukrainians in Russia. By the way, Kremlin did absolutely nothing in the beginning of 90's to protect Russians when cleansings really were a thing in a middle Asian countries and Caucasus - which is no wonder since the Russians themselves genocided millions of their fellow countrymen in 20 century without a tiny bit of regret.

>>525634

>I thought the only reason that they did it cause Khrushchev was obsessed with Ukraine

This isn't how the politics work, not even USSR politics. First of all, Crimea in 1954 was a deserted, almost uninhabitable hellhole with no water. Building https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Crimean_Canal fed by the huge amounts of Ukrainian water was and still remains the only way to escape that desert fate. Second of all, Kremlin earlier did annex a piece on Donbas so Ukrainian-Soviet officials weren't happy not getting anything in exchange: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taganrog

>Taganrog briefly joined the Ukrainian SSR as the administrative center of Taganrog Okrug, until it was transferred to the Russian SFSR along with Shakhty Okrug

>>525634

Oh, another leafy-style post.

>You signed a deal to let Russians keep their forces on Crimea

That did the pro-Russian cuck against whom we've uprised two times and who's now scared to going back in the country. But no matter what, I agree it's our own fault letting him and another corrupt as fuck socialist bitch Tymoshenko be the two main presidential candidates in 2010 "elections". It was pretty stupid, so now by banning commies alongside with changing the voting system and voting 3 new center-right parties as a main force in parliament we're atoning our mistakes.

>free trade agreement with Russia

Are you really that retarded you'd think that's purely a free trade agreement, not a political instrument to cuck own neighbors into USSR 2.0? If that's a free trade agreement and all the countries in it are free to make their own decisions, how come none of them has the same agreement with EU which huge market would be far more beneficial for them?

>you decided to shit on native Russian population

That I've already debunked.

>you decided to order under ultimatum the second most powerful country in the world to leave in breach of an agreement you signed with them, way too fast for them to move all their equipment out of there

What breach exactly are you talking about?

>it wasn't even yours before 1954

While I've already written almost enough about the Crimea, it should also be mentioned that we did annex it under commandment of Petro Bolbochan in 1918, with huge support of the native Tatar population.

>rebels

Yep, """rebels""" from Moscow and Ulan-Ude.

Make no mistake m80s, hohols truly are perpetually butthurt about russia, for as long as you can trace it they had hatred for russians, the straight up bigotry, the kind SJWs have for white people. Large events in ukraine-russian history (such as holodomor and 2014) were all caused by their own batshit in an otherwise casual and ordinary situation, that every other party besides them played fine. Of all countries that Soviet Union fell apart to, ukraine had the biggest wealth, the best crops, the highest concentraition of manufacturing power, the best scientific facilities. And in spite of all that, of all post-soviet countries they alone managed to fuck themselves up into so such pathetic sorry-ass state. Complete and total insanity is a defining feature of Ukraine as a nation.

Dude the blond chick who was your leader said every Russian should be lined up and shot. That is a REALLY DUMB THING to say about half your country that's a major ethnic group in the country with the most nukes in the world. Also that kind of thing tends to set people into a panic, and instead of calming the panic, the new government in Kiev decided to ban the Russian language and send regular Ukrainian military into the east.

Also you seem to be completely fucking ignorant about your own country:

1. The agreement was signed in 1990s, it gave you control over gas lines (which you squandered), a bunch of Soviet military ships (which you sold like retards), all of the Soviet infrastructure, and prevented Crimea from being taken back then. It was a good deal, you could have been Germany-tier economy by now if you weren't retarded. And this is the agreement you breached, Euromaidan was in 2013 and this deal works until 2017:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_Treaty_on_the_Status_and_Conditions_of_the_Black_Sea_Fleet

2. It is just a free trade agreement. Serbia has a FTA with Russia and EU, and Serbia is a fall smaller country with way more people hating them. Hell's bells, even EU has a FTA with Russia. This isn't the cold war despite what RFE tells you. At fucking worst the Russians would set the FTA in such a way as to make you prosperous enough for them to recover as much of the debt you already owe them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93European_Union_relations#Common_Economic_Space

3. Rebels aren't from Moscow. If you aren't aware your country has a huge ethnic Russian population because of the way Soviets allocated territory, I don't know what to tell you. 1/5 of your population, highly focused and concentrated. You took no effort to integrate them and spread them out, then threaten them with extermination. Now they can take territory and it's 100% your fault, not anyone else.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_in_Ukraine

Moreover, you have 8 million Ukrainians in Russia, mostly migrant workers. Ethnic Ukrainians, your fellow citizens, away from their families trying to earn a buck. When I heard you shut away visas between the two countries I began to truly think of you as subhuman. I wasn't convinced by Russian facebook bots or whatever it is you seem to think, I was convinced of your basic inhumanity by your own acts.

Quit blaming other people for your own mistakes.

On a low budget, what good is a hardhat as a protective helmet for SHTF? I'm not expecting it to be a ballistic level of protection but it's cheaper and easier to find in regular shops than actual surplus military helmets.

You may be alone in a pharmacy with more stock than you can carry, here's where a basic understanding comes in. If you're in the position to loot, here's what the smart words mean:

Antivirals (the thing that stops a sniffle killing everyone you know):

If it ends in -vir. You should take these, viruses are a bitch that keeps on giving.

Antibiotics( worth more than ammunition):

If it ends in -cillin, starts with Cef-, or ends with -oxacin then it's some sort of antibiotic. You don't really need to know the difference unless you're going into more detail. Pay attention to how they're stored before you take them but take them you should.

Painkillers (make you stop wanting to die when you're dying painfully and/or stop you caring anyway):

A lot trickier to simplify. Generally speaking, narcotics are -ine, -one, and -ol but there's a lot of overlap. It's safer to memorise your favourites and then skip anything you're not certain of.

I just finished up living under the poverty line for the duration of my degree, and am now starting a well-salaried software engineering job. I consider even my life in poverty to be extremely comfortable due to subsidized food/energy and the availability of cheap textiles/plastics/medicine/electronics made from sweatshops.

The romantic conception of SHTF seems to be camping/homesteading with guns and wild dindus to shoot.

Whilst that might make for a fun theme park, I'm willing to bet the novelty would wear off once the stocks of food, fuel, medicine, and textiles/plastics dried up. The people that didn't starve would form pseudo-states that would likely kill one another for stupid reasons. If I survived, it would be some combination of mostly luck, appealing to one of these psuedo-states as a specialist, and solving life-or-death problems on a daily basis.

Why would I want to live off the rotting scraps of civilization when I could just telecommute from a homestead and have anything I desire arrive to my doorstep in boxes?

>>527702

That's not a bad idea. The problem with my vision is that the correction provided by glasses creates a heavy "fisheye" effect outside of a small sweet spot in the center. This makes them awful for general use but they could be fine when used with an optic as the sight picture is already constrained to something closer to the glasses' sweet spot.

All that being said, I'm beginning to realize I am fucked in a SHTF scenario. My vision is jacked up to the point that I'm useless in the field with or without correction. I recently went dove hunting for the first time and I was just hopeless at spotting doves against any background other than the sky. I guess I'll have to hope for a quick end to hostilities and the opportunity to be useful as a mechanic/skilled labor in the aftermath.

Last time I had MREs was 2001 or 2002, I'm guessing that was the older style. The food wasn't horrid, but I wouldn't want to live off them. I was annoyed that half the bulk was packaging.

I went camping with my gf for a month this summer. We got ~10 packs of freeze dried shit and were barely able to eat them all, honestly just get ramen, it tastes about the same and costs 1/20 as much.

The big winner was these packs of Indian sauces she got at some hippie store. Just put the package in boiling water to heat it and dump it over rice or potatoes. Pic related. Really good and it's so easy to carry a gator aid bottle full of rice.

We happily lived off that plus a variety of canned food for a month with no problems.

I'd rather carry my cooking kit than dozens of bulky ass MREs.

I had good luck with the biolite. Stuff dry grass, sticks and pinecones in it and you'll have boiling water in a few minutes. I was doubtful, but it's amazing. The battery is heavyish ~10oz, but if you'll be able to charge it off USB every week or so you won't need alcohol or propane.

The propane stove works much better in high winds or rain, but propane tanks will probably be a premium item SHTF. I absolutely recommend having one in your house with a few tanks of fuel.

Alcohol stoves are weak, the fuel can leak and probably has issues with wind and rain as well. Might be hard to find pure alcohol in SHTF (i'm assuming vodka isn't going to work), but it's possible to distill it on your own.

Each is a tradeoff I guess.

There are two types one that creates power through the Peltier effect (orange battery) and one that uses power to run a small fan (blue battery). I have the one that uses power.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUj034sQBdA

I was changing camp sites every few days and used my phone charger in my car to recharge it, but it never got below 4 bars. My fan on high boils water in about 4-5 mins. I think the orange one is twice the weight and in the video it took him about 7-8 mins to boil water with it. Same time as the blue one on low.

If the claim a charge lasts 30 hrs is right you'd be good to go for several weeks of cooking.

I assume any SHTF is going basically mean living out of my car, or being in my house with no services. Either way getting some USB power every few days won't be a problem.

Of course the battery will slowly lose charge in storage, so it's not ideal for bugout.

I presume the easiest and warmest way to keep warm outdoor in mid-winter, if you have found a good place to settle for a while, would be bringing fire-heated stones into a padded tent or whatever resting/living space you got.

Keeping warm stones basically is the easiest way to keep your living/sleeping space heated. Granite or field spat should work best. I got a miniature grill and a bunch of charcoal ready for house heating since I live in a densly populated country with no outdoor place to seek refuge, so I just stock up for a indoor SHTF over winter, though the charcoal probably would be best utilized for cooking in my case. Building an indoor tent with blankets and tarps drastically would keep my bed heated up anyway, as long I got warm stones.

In my case, the most dangerous thing, though, is having too much for everyone to envy and desire from you. And I don't got any guns, so I just get my hands on whatever I can find for the most part.

A full-blown SHTF scenario isn't as likely in the EU as in the US, though, but it's good to know what's premium quality gear in any case, and I can feel the transition from urbanized manlet into independent male is transforming me into something better.

Anyway. If you're innawoods and want a place to settle it requires you bring sleeping mats, and a lot of tarps and whatever cheap blankets for roofing insulation. I would probably imagine most people would feel safe keeping away from desperate and panicking normies, and with the gun laws in the US a full-scale SHTF wouldn't be favoring the criminals and the Jihadis, either, as it would be in my country in the EU.

I believe it would be a good idea to find a safe spot outside away from everything. You could dig out the hole and build the tent and bring the gear that would make your one-way trip too heavy with the, say, padded cotton blankets and tarp beforehand. It's not pricey, either. It just takes a good day's worth of work for a couple, I believe. Hauling the blankets would be half of the work, I guess.

That's what I would do. I would find a reclusive spot. When the SHTF you drive off and get as close you can before getting there on foot and bring the food and water needed for the bug-out over some couple trips, with the shelter already set up.

You can also make it a sauna if you wish to, but just sleeping comfortable in a t-shirt when it's minus 20 degrees Celsius outside is kinda awesome, and I guess most people would sacrifice half their rations for just one really warm and comfortable nights sleep, sometimes. Bringing a saw and axe would also be reccomendable, as the fire requires a bit of work with only a hachet or so.

A lot of indigenous peoples in Amierca did this. They built a dome out of branches, covered it with hides and dig a hole in the middle for the stones you bring in from a fire when they're heated up. Voilá.

I guess it's way more comfortable and healthy in the long run than a simple tent and easier than building a cottage, anyway. I probably would recommend this if you're 2-3-4 people. It requites firewood, though, but the smart thing about this is even with crappy and semi-wet wood you'll heat up the stones enough to keep the resting area warm through the long night.

If keeping a low profile is more important, I guess you need some smoke-free charcoal to avoid scavengers, or only light up a fire in the ground and cover it up when it's already dark. With a pickup car full of provisions you'd probably be able to last a winter or so that way.

That's the best long-term bugout plan I can imagine, anyway. Safest and most sound. This plan would probably work best with a family or so. Though, probably, the more the merrier.

What do you guys think about foot wraps? Long term they seem like they will last much longer than socks. Or will make socks last much longer is you wear them as an outer layer.

They are also quicker to dry and make.

Arguments against?

049985 No.530319

>>530317

Even those will have to be cleaned, and if you're gonna bother bringing a bit of detergent, why not also lug actual socks in tow? I'm sure they still make detergent in bar form.

If you don't have a washer, flat cloth is going to be easier to clean.

c45c4e No.530340

>>530317

Advantages:

1. In cold or with too many washings, elastics in regular socks get brittle and fail. No stretchyness means no problems with them.

2. Wraps can be removed more gently, to check for frostbite or trench foot, and are reusable after. Elastic socks have to be cut away each time.

3. They're easier to wash and much quicker to dry. In winter, you can leave wraps on a rock and sun will dry them, but elastic socks are too thick for that.

Disadvantages:

1. Far less convenient. Like, ridiculously so. You have to learn how to put them on.

2. Folds in cloth can cause callouses when folded improperly.

3. Elastic socks are common enough that using a piece of cloth to cover your legs is dumb. Just pack 400 socks with you.

Whatever you choose you should go with layered coverage, it's better when sweating. It's why experienced hikers double up on socks, the first sock wicks away sweat, and the second absorbs it.

de1dcd No.530361

Well my uncle used those when he was in the army, and his opinion was that when properly used, foodwraps are superior to socks. While I have no personal experience on foodwraps, I'd imagine that they are quite convenient maintanance wise in comparison to socks. During long marches the problem I've always had that I have ran out of dry socks, and tying socks to the outside of my backpack is a complete bitch. Footwraps look like they might be easier to attach to something, and they will dry far quicker than socks.

I've been thinking about this, and it seems to me that while footwraps would be more durable and easier to clean than socks, there is a bit of a flaw to them in emergency situations. This is based off a number of basic suppositions below:

1. Based off common survival and hiking knowledge, you won't have your footgear (socks or wraps) on 100% of the time. This is to prevent athlete's foot and let sweat dry out, normally done at camp or maybe when taking a short break.

2. In SHTF, you have to be ready to break camp at a moment's notice or get the fuck out of Dodge, due to potential danger from enemy forces, opportunistic raiders, or wild animals.

3. Footwraps, no matter how practiced in their usage you are, will always take longer to put on compared to socks. This is a basic observation since while socks have a single step of slipping them on, you have to fold one side, then the other, then under, up, and around with the wrap, then get it in your boot to hold the wrap in place.

These 3 together mean that in the case of needing to perform an emergency evacuation of your area while in resting mode, with your feet likely bare for hygenic purposes, someone with footwraps will experience a greater delay before they are ready to leave than someone with socks. Obviously, this is somewhat of a minor problem since it isn't 100% guaranteed you'll be attacked while resting, but it is something to consider nevertheless and whether or not this downside is outweighed by the benefits of using footwraps over socks.

You could also maybe consider being able to take the elastic from socks to use for various purposes, but given you can just buy elastic from stores and carry a few feet of it with you for virtually no extra weight or packing space, I didn't bother to add that as a judgement factor.

Foot wraps are fairly easy to put on. Only takes a short while. Bonus points for drying easier, being a flat cloth.

If we're arguing the use of elastic from your socks, I'm going to have to bring up that a foot wrap can be used as a regular rag, and for literally any purpose regular rags would be used for.

Morphine, codeine are the opiates direct from the opium poppy.

-ol just means it's an alcohol (rc-oh) ethanol is what is in your vodka. Very few narcotic (read opiate) painkillers have this name, maybe 2 not often used ones. Does anyone here know anything about forest gardens or perennial crops (trees/vegetables)? Perennials are much less taxing on the soil and can produce tons of food compared to annuals.

Permaculture combined with /k/ wouldn't be a bad thing at all. Although it does take quite a bit of time to start up. Perhaps it would be better as a pre-emptive solution to any SHTF situations rather than a direct response.

Let's bring some activity back to this thread with a topic that hasn't been covered yet in thread 3, don't know about the old ones:

WEAPONS FOR SHTF SCENARIOS

Specifically, the best kinds of funs to have for SHTF scenarios, defined as:

>ease of ammo acquisition pre and post-SHTF (reloading not included)

>reliability and ability to operate on little cleaning/maintenance (cleaning kits won't last forever and you might not get a chance to clean for a while) including ability to operate in less than ideal weather/humidity/environmental conditions

>ease of acquisition for those without a trust fund or successful business to draw funds from

Melee weapons can count as well for the sub-topic, but they're pretty straightforward in my opinion. Anything can be a makeshift melee weapon, and small things like knives/fisticuff enhancers are last-resort-tier.

Slingshots like >>537202 are pretty high up there in SHTF. Pebbles, lead fishing sinkers, lead shot and marbles are usable. A guy named Bill Hays made some video instructions on technique used and it's solid when you get the hang of it but one thing you should know is that lead balls love to ricochet, the smaller lead balls especially love doing that. You really, really do want to use eye protection and treat slingshots alot like a typical gun when you practice with it.

A solid slingshot also won't break your bank being $50~ for a good solid one but you might need to spend more if you're importing one overseas or want to snazz it up with a leather or canvas carrying kit. Replacing bands for slingshots is as simple as using rubber or latex strips you could get from medical supplies in SHTF but dedicated slingshot companies sell replacement parts for cheap and you can replace the frame with a solid forked tree branch if it breaks.

That being said AKs will see tons of use. I expect to see alot of them being used by drug cartels, gangs, religious fanatics, average Joe's, ex-military, survivalists and LEO will use them just because they're so common and there's so much ammo. WASRs in the US have sunk back down to $600~ after the Vegas Shooting so, it might be a good time to bite the bullet and go to your local gun store to inspect one.

The best option for ameribros is, in my opinion, to build a cheap AR15 and buy a glock 9mm. If you build the AR you will know how to fix the AR. Plain and simple. Also 5.56 nato will be the most plentiful rifle cartridge around, in addition to being able to carry twice as much vs .308 which will probably be the second most plentiful rifle ammo around. The AR is effective to about 500 yards and can take game up to deer size (bigger if you hit the head and can shoot well enough to hit the head).

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-m4-carbine-length-5-56-nato-1-7-nitride-freedom-rifle-kit-516447301.html

300 dollarydoos gets you everything you need you poorfag (fuck yes Christmas sale!).

Will you win the most accurate person of the month club with this? No. Will it shoot most of the time? Yes.

Build it, fuck it up, take it apart, rebuild it. Lose a spring in the process and order another one. By the end of this process you will know how this rifle works and how to fix it if it doesn't. Even if it breaks you might find another one and be able to fix it during SHTF madness.

The glock 17 is perhaps the most common handgun out there. It shoots. It can be found for <400 on armslist in decent condition. Again, take it apart put it back together. 9mm is by far the most prevalent handgun cartridge available. Glock is also known for its reliability, so if your 300 dollar AR fails you can still have a functioning firearm.

This seams like pretty solid info even from my bong perspective.

Want to add that after you've got the basics covered (In this case after you've got that 556. and 9mm gun) you can branch out and specialise which may be good if you can bug in and have the space for it. Things like stronger hunting rifles to take down bigger game and/or armoured targets easier or shotguns for short range use aren't bad ideas.

>Build it, fuck it up, take it apart, rebuild it. Lose a spring in the process and order another one. By the end of this process you will know how this rifle works and how to fix it if it doesn't. Even if it breaks you might find another one and be able to fix it during SHTF madness.

Remember that part should apply to all your gear. Learning how to sew will cover most minor clothing repairs. After that learning how to fix general stuff would be a pretty good idea.

If your MREs suck and aren't the kind designed to last for pretty much forever (well, realistically ~6-10+ years), you're doing it wrong. It doesn't take a skilled chef to make a dehydrated or otherwise preserved ration. MREs at home are meant to be for short-term high-movement/"energy" use (can sit in storage for 2-6 years, are meant to last you a month or so while you're on your feet). If you aren't leaving your home for days at a time, and thus don't have a use for survival food that's meant to last you a month or two while on the go when you can't scavenge real food, then just stock your home with canned goods. Canned goods last a lot longer, are (typically) safe to eat right out of the can, and while heavy (E.G. you can't move around with a lot of them), they're great for a fortified bun/k/er.

Really though, if you can't make your own MREs, then you should be ready to eat shit like lifeboat rations. When you get hungry (not "my stomach hurts" but days without food), your brain will begin to process even mild amounts of sugar as super flavorful/your brain will begin to tell you what parts to eat in order to get your micronutrients you need (such as fish eyes/brain/cheek meat). If you're reduced to "starving," than a fucking wild grass pod salad will taste good to your brain after enough time.

>If you've got recipes for homemade MREs then please post/link.

Depends on how fancy you want to go. The key is that it's a high calorie and low weight food source. To get a basic idea, here's two related links:

https://archive.fo/8oHAO

https://archive.fo/ILnbs

At bare minimum, if you want to make homemade MREs, I recommend having a vacuum sealer (~$60 on Amazon, can probably get it cheaper on a sale), a freezer, and an oven. You can use the oven to slow-bake out moisture or you can go buy a fancy dehydrator for $250, but either way you'll rack up an energy bill creating MREs.

Once you've baked out the moisture, there's different stuff you can do to preserve the food further. My recommendation would be to take your preserved fruits/meats, dip them in honey, freeze the honey, and then vacuum seal the partially frozen honeyed fruits/meats. The dehydration process alone will preserve your fruit/meat pretty good, but the honey will oxygen seal it, and it will last virtually forever (I'd still use it/throw it out every five years, but theoretically it shouldn't ever go bad so long as you dried your meat/fruit properly). Eventually the honey will crystallize, but you can just heat up the MRE and it'll return to normal (albeit after storing it long enough, the honey will begin to taste bad, but it's still edible). Keep in mind this only works with dried meat, as meat juice will ruin your preservation process. As long as you got a water source of some kind, you're only limited by your imagination for MREs. Throw in a stainless steel vacuum bottle filled with olive oil (olive oil stays good for about a year or two outside of the fridge so long as you aren't exposing it to sweltering heat), and you've just quadrupled the possible combinations for MREs since you can now dip your hard tack or other dried goods in oil for extra calories.

b1e7de No.543058

>>543057

Oh right, always keep in mind that vacuum sealing just extends the life of your rations by a few months/years. Follow proper storage procedures as much as possible up to SHTF scenarios and replace your MREs if they pass the 2/3 year mark just to play it safe. Better to spend extra on vacuum bags/foodstuffs than to be cripplingly sick with food poisoning during a SHTF scenario.

b1e7de No.543063

>>543058

Sage because triple post, but also remember freeze drying foods is an option (was what I meant by having a freezer earlier). https://archive.fo/FzvFk

And remember that things like Emergen-C and Zipfizz double as electrolyte boosters. Get some drug bags jewelry bags and some gatorade mix or Emergen-C, and add it to all of your MRE packs as well as maybe some Folgers coffee crystals, that way you have caffeine and electrolytes with each meal. You want your rations to taste good or have good "rewards" with them on the side, because you should never underestimate the power of the human mind. If you've had to hike all day or move through difficult terrain, and you've been having a shitty day, there's nothing quite like a small treat with your meal to boost your morale and keep you from offing yourself. The little things in life can make a huge different in general, but doubly so during SHTF scenarios.

In general, some meticulous things I'd recommend packing with each MRE/Ration pack you make:

<Coffee Crystals or a piece of Caffeine gum

<Packet of iodized salt and pepper

<Packet of Emergen-C or drug baggie of Gatorade powder for electrolytes

<Small Candy Bar or Wafer for sugar/mental boost

<Chewing gum or something you can chew on later between meals in case of hunger pangs

Allegedly if you freeze water, you can vacuum seal it thus turning a dried ration into an MRE. I'm not sure how well that would work for preservation, but it's always an option to add vacuum sealed purified water to your ration if you can handle the extra weight. I know stupid survivalist sites recommend having an MRE for every fucking meal, but I think it's better to plan out your rations/MREs to be 1 bag a day with 1,500-2,500kcals in each bag, to be opened around brunch with one main meal, and then small stuff to snack on throughout the day.

a8098b No.543065

>>543063

And don't forget the multivitamin that weighs a couple grams.

And if possible, add a shoulder or pint of liquor, or a vacuum sealed joint to every fourth or seventh ration if you can handle the extra weight. Not sure if it's possible to vacuum seal nicotine lozenges/cigs, but even if you don't smoke (especially if you don't smoke), nicotine lozenges are fucking amazing as pick-me-ups to keep you functioning at max efficiency when used once a week or less.

My nigga! Didn't the Incans used to just keep quinoa around as a survival food? I remember reading that they would let the shit grow wild in poor nutrient soil/mountainous regions because the grain grew like weeds. Might be worth looking into as a food source in SHTF.

>Grows in nutrient-deficient soil

>Only takes a couple days to germinate so you know right away if it will grow or not

>Doesn't need water until you get two or three leaves

>Needs less than 10 inches of water for the entire harvest

>Grows in pretty much any conditions where the temperature doesn't typically get above 90ish degrees

>Birds and other animals treat it like a weed/poison and typically don't eat it

>High protein/fiber content, takes like 10 plants to get a pound of grain

Soy contains phytoestrogens, as does practically everything from sunflower seeds to garlic. It's just a stupid meme that some people take seriously. I don't think canned pork, chicken or beef is that good, canned sardines (they have some sardines in tomato sauce in some of our MREs, they're pretty delicious compared to most things that contain meat in there) and tuna are a lot more edible in comparison. They had some canned chicken in our MREs and it's totally shit, basically inedible unless you were starving or did some MRE magic, heated it up, crushed it up and put it next to something freshly made like pasta or potatoes. I think good old beef jerky would be lighter and still give you some much needed meat.

>what's bad about soy

Phytoestrogens. Literal feminizing agent. Streamerfaggot, Cosmo Wright, went on a diet of nothing but soy through "soylent" because it's a drink and he could "eat" it without having to step away from his vidya autism. Guess what Cosmo Wright is now? A hideous tranny renamed "Narcissa". That's a severe case but it's also the major cause behind the soycuck epidemic, all the wimpy fat effeminate and often full faggoty "males" of [current year] and the insanity of the modern woman.

As for spam, it's greasy even when grilled, overpriced for what it is, and uses fucking SUGAR and "MODIFIED" POTATO STARCH as a filler because shit cuts of pork are just too much for them to fill a small can with for almost five fucking dollars.

Deviled ham is pretty much potted meat, but with just ham instead of the "pork and mechanically separated chicken".

I don't know about burger land but here in the UK e can get two cans for £1. Same with similar canned meat.

A Lot of heavy cans add up when you can carry the equivalent weight and eat for days off of it. The weight goes up even more with anything with more liquid content in it.

590fc9 No.546080

I partially agree that it's more kike culture based, than food based, that there's a spike in nu-male soybois prancing around. I actually grew up at an Air Force base in Japan. We lived off base for about a year, and the Japanese family next door would bring us house warming gifts of food, so tofu and rice were commonplace at the dinner table for a while. Deep fried tofu was my favorite as a kid. However, I do believe that a diet consisting exclusively of soy based products does do damage to the male body because of the plant based estrogen. I read in a men's health magazine that some guy that was drinking soy milk every day because of lactose intolerance, started to develop breasts and was no longer able to hold an erection. Some pretty scary shit to be honest, but that guy was an extreme case since that's all he ate was soy based products. In the end, I think it's okay to eat soy, just don't eat a lot of it and make sure to add lots of other foods to balance it out. Just like everything in life, too much of one thing can hurt you.

Since the 00's we had always been fucked given we had roughly the same product prices we the rest of Europe and less than half the median wages, in the drachma to euro transition our purchasing power was cut to one third overnight. After the denbts our purchasing power just got further halved down.

I can rember happy day of drachma in the late 90s that with a pentochiliaro (5000 drachmas), an equivalent of roughly 15 euros, you could buy necessities for a 5 members family for over a week, now 15 euros are 10 kilos of bread.

Pemmican, trail mix (no chocolate) and things like clif bars (nuts, fruits and oats) should be in your pack. They are legitimately ready to eat no need to cook or boil water, they'll store for years and give you a good selection of macro nutrients.

Jerky is just less nutritious pemmican. Hardtack tastes like sand.

For your home stockpile rice, beans and pasta for calories, canned food for nutrition and flavor. Just buy the types you normally eat.

Freeze dried foods really don't give you any advantage over these things. You need boiling water and they never taste quite right. You're better off getting into canning.

Creatine isn't a pre-workout. It's a naturally occurring amino acid. You'd need to eat like 3lbs of steak to get a proper daily dose, though. As far as I've read the only negative from it is speeding up male pattern baldness in men predisposed to balding. Other than that it just increases your ability to preform almost any exercise. So the idea is that it would make you an objectively better working in any environment that requires hard labour, but I can only find information about it revolving around body building. It's a little bit like steroids in the way that once you stop taking it you'll lose the majority of the strength that it gave you, though it doesn't actually do any harm like steroids might.

But yeah, not a pre-workout. It takes like 14 days for it to even start working properly in your muscles when you begin taking it.

The more I've been thinking about it, the more I have accepted the idea that capitalist Jews are just as corrupt and degenerate(if not more degenerate) than communist Jews. I like the Visigoth king Egica's idea based on the Church's council of Toledo, to enslave all Jews in Spain, take their children away from them to be raised by nuns, and confiscate all of their property.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egica

>In 694, Egica enacted the most severe anti-Jewish law by a Visigothic king yet. This was in response, so he claimed to the Seventeenth Council of Toledo, to a conspiracy of domestic and foreign Jews to overthrow Christian leaders. Egica declared all Jewish-held land forfeit, all Jews to be enslaved to Christians, and all Jewish children over the age of seven to be taken from their homes and raised as Christians. Jewish-owned Christian slaves were to be invested with the Jews' property and to be responsible for paying the taxes on the Jews. This law was not applied in towns where Jews were deemed indispensable to the economy. Indeed, as a result of disintegrating Visigothic power, it was hardly enforced beyond the capital city itself.

As already said, canning is def the way to go for home. On the move, vacuum sealing some dry goods is easy, and much cheaper than MRE’s. Learning how to dehydrate is a good move, also.

I failed miserably trying to acquire/separate fat for pemmican, I just can’t fucking figure it out. My retardation tho. Hardtacks not too bad if you soften it in coffee. One could dive deep into nutritional science and bring up the need for variety in your diet to get proper nutrients and whatnot, but honestly these types of meals should be best used in getting from point a to point b. (Whoops: just saw >>570557 diy mre guide itt as I was writing this. My b, utilize that).Investing time to learn gardening and hunting is better for once you’re situated somewhere, and a fun hobby in the meantime.

In a survival sitch, you’re prob trying to save calories rather than burn them. Most otc supplements boost metabolism. I’d like to think I’m a reasonably well built guy, I’m 5’11 200lbs no fat. However, all that muscle is gonna go bye bye when I’m not able to eat 17 containers of chicken/rice every day. Not to mention, all that extra muscle weight is cool when out at the bars or in the gym, but it’s not very useful if you’re footing it long distances and getting gassed easy.

Weight gainer shakes, however, are a novel idea to carry around. They’re extremely calorie dense and have a ton of carbs. I’d steer away from the hype brands that add a bunch of other chemical shit in there, as again you’re just looking for body fuel in this application. Just stick to the ones with good macros. Pretty much every fitness diet or regimen boils down to macros.

As for all this soy and testosterone talk… the phrase “meat and potatoes” is used for describing a subject’s basics, not “gluten free soy prostrate milk.” Eat what people were meant to eat. Unless you have naturally occurring low testosterone, you shouldn’t need supplements. And if you do need said supplements to offset the food you’re eating, stop eating that gay shit. If you don’t turn full ladyboi, you’ll prob still imbalance something in a world where proper treatment for it will be hard to come by. Supplements (in the weight lifting and fat burning circles) are *mostly* marketing memes. Just like that Pinterest post you saved which says you’ll lose 30lbs by drinking frog cum with lemon juice as long as you get it through some bloggers affiliate program. Eat as healthy as you can for the situation you may find yourself in. Also, red meat provides plenty of muscle building goodies, but again, over-indulging in an era that may not have proper medical care will suck when half of you gets paralyzed from stroking out and you have to learn to jerk off dudes with your non dominant hand.

If you really want to get away from chemicals, additives, and potential artificial hormones, you have to source food locally from farmers markets etc or produce your own. The food industry is probably just as jewed up as anything else out there… look at the rise of high fructose corn syrup, cancer causing artificial sweeteners, shit animal byproducts used as primary ingredients, and more. They want your money and as long as the FDA completes their mystery process of declaring something is generally human safe, they’ll throw the most profit maximizing shit your way and not even consider your health. Your body is the vessel which will carry your brain to survival, putting stuff into it that will hamper its ability to do so is pretty stupid when you look at it from a logical perspective.

As for vices… don’t think I’ve seen them mentioned in this thread except maybe for trading. Basic alcoholic drinks (mead, wine, whatever) are moderately easy to ferment and while need aging to get super noice, a drunken night can be had in a month-ish process. Maybe not good to get hooked on the booze when SHTF, but a great morale booster if you are in a safe area. I’ve read up on making yeast instead of purchasing it, but haven’t tried yet. Personally, I enjoy a tin of skoal once in a while, especially when innawoods, but dont have a problem without it in life.

Smokers should prob quit cold turkey… wheezing lungs and increased risk for upper respiratory infection when it gets cold is just asking for difficulty. However, im sure the occasional cig might mean the difference between losing your shit and making it through the day when times get tough. Maybe learn how to grow/process your own tabacco? The whacky tobaccy users out there prob already know how to grow that shit, which I assume requires less post-harvest work than regular tabacco.

If you’re on the heavy shit… just stop, man. You’re gonna die before anything even gets fun. Small stuff can obviously become addicting as well, including caffeine and sugar. If you NEED that coffee to get moving, you’re gonna be sluggish when it’s a rarity.

Late reply, but always always try to grow these things before you need them. Quinoa looks attractive on paper but has a longer season and is very picky about length of day - thus even though on paper it looks fine, doesn't do so well in Alaska. Amaranth, on the other hand, does pretty well.

Best advice for agriculture is to take local 'master gardener' style classes, join ag groups, etc. People who have been doing it longer know what works and may have their own cultivars they like to use. Biggest thing is getting your dirtwork out of the way - don't expect to clear even a quarter acre of sod post-SHTF. Get something growing there, a good cover crop like buckwheat, vetch, clover, whatever works well in your area. Till it under at the end of each season - this will help get your soil nice and swole for use post-SHTF.

Have used solar oven once; delicious meal of chicken and corn put in at 7AM and ready by 4. Efficient? probably not; extremely convenient and passably effective if conditions are right? Yes. They are also cheap to build. Make sure you build one you can move around easily though, as you'll want to track that sun throughout the day.

The kratky method is the simplest, smallest, and easiest hydroponics setup ever. You're probably thinking of the traditional deep water hydroponics that requires an oxygenation pump. With the kratky method you don't need any of that, you just don't keep adding water and the plant compensates by creating additional roots that absorb oxygen directly from the air. You can literally grow a tomato plant in a bucket.

Watch this guy he does a lot of Kratky, and the following is the channel of the guy who discovered the method: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjwBvl5MXuQMziQL2_pQCPA/videos

I agree, mayo is still superior to any type of ketchup, but HFCS is only found in the US really.

If it's only 4x4, it's not a huge problem if you have leaves. Leaf compost is one of, if not the best (imo) soils for edible plant growing. Doesn't matter much if it gets depleted- but you don't even need chickens to rejuvenate, put meat and vegetable scraps in there with some earthworms. If you want to make sure it has nitrogen, put it in a shallower box and grow clover- a nitrogen fixer.

The solution would be to cut out every electric consumption as low as you can, to the bare minimum. Computers are coms are the minimal, form my point of view. And only if you want to keep computers around, a poison you maybe don't want.

After, it's a matter of where you live. Maybe using solar pannel is the right solution here, if you don't want to be connected to the grid. But check your laws, because in some western fucking countries, you simply can't go off.

205f57 No.578685

>>578646

Anything that generates or moves heat consumes a fuck-tonne of power. So refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, electric heater, stovetop, oven, microwave, and so forth. Consumption by lights and electronics is minimal compared to the above.

Wind and Hydro are location Dependant, and all three are intermittent, so you'll need some sort of storage mechanism, batteries, capacitors, hydrogravity. That's why most people hook into the grid and sell back any excess power. Of course this means that during a deficit you're buying that power back at in inflated rate.

Here's what I'd do. Switch over to Propane or Compressed Natural Gas for as many appliances as possible. Get a thousand-gallon storage tank or two, fill them up in June when the price is lowest.

Then get a wood chipper, a wood syngas generator, and a compressor. Brush and trimmings go in one end, burnable gas comes out the other, so you're not screwed when the propane trucks stop coming. Furthermore, you can take that syngas and run an internal combustion engine to generate power, or if you're really old school, run a boiler and use steam for heat and power.

Last, get a battery bank and trickle-charge it with your choice of renewable energy. When wind/solar/hydro isn't enough, run your generator.
