Being the only Balt poster here, I just want to post news about the EDF without bothering other threads.

Can serve as a hub for Baltic defence and such in general.

If you want to catch up on the major things that have happened past 4 years in the EDF, I suggest reading the EDF thread on The Mess.

If you want fresh EDF pics they're all posted here. https://pildid.mil.ee/

Click on an album, then click on the play button on the top right to get full size pics. Otherwise you get shit thumbnails. Baffling decision.

Past month have had some interesting things about our acquirement programs. They are almost all falling apart now.

>Frenchies are trying to block us out of buying Spike missiles. We currently lack any real long range ATGMs and only have Javelins.

https://www.err.ee/907816/prantslased-puuavad-tankitorjerelvade-hankele-pidurit-tommata

MBDA made a complaint to some ministry about how Spike missiles are outdated and how the Jews themselves are replacing them, which to my knowledge has no credibility at all. They made some sort of offer for their own ATGMs. Just trying to block shit, I guess. Probably nothing will happen here.

>Sig Sauer made a complaint against our decision of Lewis Machine and Tool AR type rifles.

https://news.err.ee/885777/us-arms-manufacturer-sig-sauer-contests-estonia-s-firearms-tender

Government had a competition for a package of new rifles, short and standard service length 5.56 rifles and a 7.62 DMR with accessories and optics by 2021. Basically all our old stocks of Swedish AK4s and Israeli Galils are falling apart by now although they have served us well.

We are are buying 16,000 rifles with potential orders for more for some years after the initial order. The rules were that a company had to have a gun adopted by NATO and sell 25,000 rifles within 5 years.

The three companies that made an offer were Lewis Machine and Tool, Sig Sauer and H&K. The offers cost €22m, €27m and €45,5m respectively, with LMT having the best warranties.

Sig made a complaint on how the guns supposedly aren't up to snuff, their complaints were on how the stock of the 7.62 DMR had some bits fall off on a drop test (the stock is a standard M4 stock), the optics apparently aren't good enough (2 different optics, one RDS made by Holosun and some magnifying scope made by Vortex) and called into question if they have sold 25,000 rifles in the last 5 years. They did sell 9000 rifles to the Kiwis and some unspecified amount of 7.62 DMRs to the Brits, plus civilian sales.

A "concerned citizen" wrote a letter about how they too, were totally not a Sig employee and were concerned about how these exact same things Sig complained about were big issues. Eesti Ekspress wrote an article just putting forth the question if they were a lobbyist or not.

Personally, I think LMT isn't trying to fuck us here. Optics are fine from what I gather and their sale of rifles to the Kiwis went over really well. I haven't heard any complaints of the 7.62 rifles for the Brits either.

An Estonian military forum called Militaar.net is pretty divided on the issue.

>Busted, turretless CV90s we bought for a mere €650k from Norway we wanted to make functional and make some mobile mortars out of can't get fixed due to BAE Systems

https://news.postimees.ee/6490842/swedish-defense-contractor-has-defense-forces-over-a-barrel

So BAE Systems, the original manufacturer of the CV90 and two Estonian companies both have offers to do repairs. Issue is, the BAE offer is too expensive, but the Estonian offers don't comply since the paperwork said that the parts must all be original. BAE doesn't sell parts like that, and now our options are to either rewrite the paperwork to allow third party parts or just not do the repairs since again, BAE's offer was too expensive. The difference was €21m vs €39m, basically twice as much.

>We're allowing disabled people to serve their time if they want to this year

Dunno how I feel about this myself.

The problem with the Baltic militaries is they're currently heavily bought into the 'specialise and let our allies do everything else' meme no tanks, no aircraft, essential no naval forces and that makes them pretty much totally reliant on NATO for everything but infantry. If push comes to shove that's bad, the West has reliably sold out on Eastern European nations and honestly if push comes to shove probably would do so again depending on the circumstances. Germany is a paper tiger so they're not much use either.

On the positive side I'm pretty sure the balts have one of the higher ratings in europe for 'would fight/die for my country' which never hurts.

>Frenchies are trying to block us out of buying Spike missiles. We currently lack any real long range ATGMs and only have Javelins.

France is friendlier with Russia than almost any other European nation particularly when it comes to the military.

Latvia is currently searching for a new infantry transport. We had made a competition, Finnish company Sisu won with a weird prototype, and now the whole thing has come to a complete stop because every manufacturer has filed complaints about something other manufactures have done or did not do in the competition. Also took a week for someone to notice that the Finns won with a prototype, not a production ready vehicle. It looks good though. I just could not resist posting, eh? Latanon always here, always lurking.

Gotta give you that. Also that's why russians call us ebil naceez. Planning to join Zemessardze this year, gotta only get my truck license first. There is a program for specialist training there too, and it's even for free, but then you gotta sign a contract for basically selling your soul to whichever local unit you belong to, with no options to quit for a set period of time, and you have to attend every single training for next 4 years, because you are now supposedly a specialist. It's literally just a truck driving license for vehicles up to 12 tons.

Mind telling us if there is something like that in the States? If the state trains to yo do something, are you legally required to pay back with four times your weight in sweat and blood? Holy shit i no longer appear as from Germany

Estonia is literally in front of Russia, so it's only natural that they get some of the best military equipment. I think that up until countries like Estonia and Latvia get mowed down by Russia, the US and the larger NATO countries like France and the UK would have time to mobilize their forces and confront the Russians (I doubt so, but I'm not an expert). Or maybe you're right and your commies just doesn't give a damn about your military. Let's see if the US will try to bully you into caring…

>>648031

>The problem with the Baltic militaries is they're currently heavily bought into the 'specialise and let our allies do everything else' meme

I think the issue is rather that we can't effectively afford an air or tank force. Such things are very expensive. The EDF has had a total budget of around €500m for the past few years, like half that is for acquirements. I think you can see how building a tank or air force would be pricey. Unless we go full stronk and have like 6% of the GDP dumped to the military, I think it will stay that way.

We also have basically no defence industry, retarded government laws block companies owning and testing weapons even if companies have wanted to set up shop here but that may change soon.

>the West has reliably sold out on Eastern European nations and honestly if push comes to shove probably would do so again depending on the circumstances.

I think that if US, German or British soldiers die here in case of an actual invasion, they would basically be forced to react since that's something they wouldn't take too lightly. I doubt any invasion would happen as long as we still have them here, and if it did happen it wouldn't be a traditional war, it would be via hybrid warfare and destabilization then swooping in to arm and later "liberate" the poor Russians living here under gnatzee occupations.

>>648041

Looks nice. What were the other options? I think Sisu does make good stuff and I'd trust them more than most companies to build something sturdy.

>>648043

>Do you mind giving a quick rundown of civilian gun laws in the Baltic states? Are they totally cucked?

IIRC, Estonian gun laws are some of the most liberal in Europe after Finland and the Czech Republic. You can even get CC permits for personal protection. You have to keep them in a gun safe and have the police check you once per year or something like that. I haven't brushed up on my gun laws in a while. Getting gun permit requires you to get a mental health check, give a valid reason to police for wanting one and then wait anywhere from a month to a year to get it to go through the bureaucratic machine.

The primary gay thing is that you can't own more than like 100 rounds of rifle ammunition and 200 rounds of pistol ammunition at once that might be vice versa, I can't remember, though. That's basically the entire catch.

>>648048

>What is public opinion on NATO exercises in your countries?

Public support of NATO is split between people who really like it and people who think they wouldn't do a damn thing if something actually happened. I'd say it's roughly a 70/30 split of people who support it and those who have a negative outlook. On exercises, it's seen as important to the security of the nation and such, so rather high. No one really cares that we have foreign troops here and it's not seen as a issue.

>>648056

The average conscript gets worse stuff than that, but not as sad as the outlook of yours still. That's just depressing to see, honestly.

German is, more than any other language I know, dependent on vocabulary and speaking experience. I suggest you listen to radio stations a lot. Just have it on in the background as you play vidya or clean your raifu.

Attached is a Deutschlandfunk stream (six different audio qualities included. Open in VLC and select one). It's one of the only good remaining German language radio stations out there. It is state-funded, so they don't ever run ads. They are mostly a news/politics/discussion station, so there won't be a lot of music. Especially their morning (from 05:00 to 10:00 German time) programming is excellent.

Their scientific insight on data security and technology are very good, the news are one of the most neutral out there, but take them with a gain of salt especially when it comes to sensitive topics. They also play the national anthem every night at 00:00, and broadcast evangelical and/or catholic masses every Sunday. News are usually at every full hour, except between 05:00 and 10:00, where it's also every half hour.

I personally listen to it a lot.

If you are a /christ/ian I can mention ERF plus, which is a christian (evangelical) radio station that has a lot of pure talking. I don't listen to it much, so I can't vouch for it's quality.

In German the word order is weird but other than that you just smash the words together and that's it. Oh, and pronouns, holy shit they are fucked up, i couldn't sense any logic behind how they are arranged.

Russian is in many ways similar to Latinfrom what i know but with more exceptions, slightly stricter grammar and similar combination of words, additions to them and many things depend on word order. Though from what i can tell, Russian is a pretty dated language, very primitive at conducting thoughts at times, despite its flexibility and variety, compared to English it can be significantly less fit for clean and pure logical or philosophical debate. I remember liking this video and when i was watching it i had found plenty of similarities in my language, though i'd give Latin greater score on flexibility, variability and ability to fit within human perception and play on it. I'm not a linguist though, and generally tend to prefer focusing on direct functions of a language - conduct meaning and not please the ill and fragile mind, so i generally would prefer languages like Technical English, Lojban or Ithkuil.

I made some mistakes, as I said I didn't know my gun laws well. I read up again:

You can own 200 rounds of ammunition per weapon if the weapons are meant for your own personal protection.

You can own 300 rounds of ammunition per one hunting weapon. This goes for both rifled and unrifled (shotguns) weapons. So as I understand it, if you own a shotgun and a rifle, you can have 300 shells and 300 rifle cartridges.

You can own 5000 rounds for sport shooting purposes.

You can own 1kg of gunpowder (if black or smokeless is not specified) per weapon, but no more than 5kg total.

A total maximum of 5000 primers.

On the other hand…

I think you should just admit you want to own guns because they are fun and cool (nothing wrong with that) instead of many practical purposes or 1337 tacticool training if you aren't an active hunter. If you want to train regularly you can join up in the Kaitseliit (National Guard). You can also apply for a gun license if you are a member of it.

I do think our gun laws should be more liberal but such things are unlikely to change. Don't expect to get America tier gun laws anywhere else in the world, but don't expect as many reasons to actually have guns in Europe either since Europe is considerably safer and smaller. There are no nigs here and there isn't really any worry of having major rioting break out at any moment like there is in America every few months. I think pondering on moving on a country entirely based on its gun laws is a rather blind thing to do, but my point still stands: Finland, here or Czechia. Elsewhere is worse than these three with the exception of Switzerland but lol @ the idea of moving there.

I'm actually of Alsatian descent, but with that area being what it is, I have family in all three bordering countries. I was thinking Swiss because of the laws and because that area is specifically where my Grandfather was from. (He actually spoke Alsatian and would beat you if you called yourself German or French.)

I was looking through our pedigree folder again last night, I guess one of my Dad’s grandfathers was from Elsaß-Lothringen, we only have the village he left from, I wonder if he was Alsatian or if he moved there after it was annexed.

>but with that area being what it is, I have family in all three bordering countries.

That’s good to have close family, if I don’t change my major and ever actually go to Germany for school I’m stuck to the east or south, all my family is far north.

>(He actually spoke Alsatian and would beat you if you called yourself German or French.)

Did he prefer one country or the other? I always figured most people would claim to be German it French. Though needing to be a resident for 10 years is pretty long. At that point it might just be better to stay as a permanent resident. My mom is still a German citizen and hasn’t ever considered getting a Canadian one, though I suppose Swiss laws would be different on that matter.

My dad's side is Alsatian, my mom's is northern German & British. But it is cool with facebook being able to see distant relatives.

He preferred being Alsatian. From my experience talking with him, Alsatians generally consider themselves to be their own people. Currently they're "French", but they've swapped hands too many times. There have been Alsatian separatist movements in the past.

Pic related is how I've always felt Alsace to be summed up in one photo. The monument depicts mother Alsace holding her dying sons, French and German. My Grandfather was drafted by both sides in the war and decided to immigrate to the USA instead.

If it can shoot bullets, it can be used as a weapon. Hell, rebels in Latgale were resiting the reds all the way to late-1919 (that's a full year since declaration of independence) with nothing but stolen, sawn-off Mosins and hunting guns.Though considering just how much equipment is spread around the countries (at least in Latvia Zemessargi (land guard) are encouraged to take their guns and some magazines home in case they have no time to make it to the supply warehouses), there will be a lot of resistance behind the lines once commies steamroll over us is less than 3 days.

>logistics

Shiiiet. If we try to hold the line on the border for some time, we are boned. Realistic first wave defensive scenario can happen maybe near Riga, and Courland is a natural stronghold russians never captured in WW2. Border regions have shit roads and plenty of spots where a tank division could roll in by just crashing a fence.

Lithuania will likely be split in half with the Russia-Koeningburg highway being in 100% red control, but they will figure something out, they are smart. Estonia… Emm… I'l let Eeestianon explain it better.

Many uncapturable men with NATO equipment forming strong national resistance groups behind enemy lines as the red wave rolls toward the west. We have very little territory and can easily be cut off from the rest of the world, but we just have so many supplies we can resist for years to come. Also good luck trying to get 50 armed Balts out from a swamp. Armor sinks, carpet bombing is weak because soft ground absorbs impacts, and any fancy heat detectors will just not work because the entire swamp is warm. >If it can shoot bullets, it can be used as a weapon.

Are weapons common in the balts? It’s not like they can be sourced very easy in Europe, though luttys should be easy enough to make in order to loot some real guns.

>Realistic first wave defensive scenario can happen maybe near Riga

Isn’t it a bad idea to set your first line of defence against a sea with nowhere to fall back? Granted I don’t know Baltic geography at all, but it seems like cutting off any chance of retreat for your first defensive line isn’t very smart. Since they have St. Petersburg and Königsberg they probably have a decent Baltic fleet, though I’d assume NATO would easily outnumber them. If that’s the case supplies could be moved in from the port assuming the Russians don’t destroy the whole thing.

>Lithuania will likely be split in half with the Russia-Koeningburg highway being in 100% red control

I’d imagine Russia’s first objective would be to Zerg rush southern Lithuania to connect Königsberg by an occupied land route to Belarus, cutting off the rest of the Baltics though assuming nukes are out of the question I’d think NATO’s first move would be to do the opposite and cut off Königsberg to starve them out and connect at least Riga to Poland with troops, perhaps abandoning Estonia until a push can be made from Norway through Kola through Murmansk or just violating Finnish neutrality (not sure if the Finns would join NATO in the event of Russian invasion of the Baltic though).

>Strong nationalism with ocasional slav hangings.

Assuming there is no division of ethnic groups in the volunteer corps English would be the spoken language? Seems like that’d fuck up communication when it matters the most. Though originally I was talking about the Baltic states just killing libs and commies, not a Russian invasion. But I suppose that was the point of the thread. Is a Russian invasion even a possibility?

inb4 Russian declares ethnic minority protection as casus beli for “peace keeping missions” and balts just pogrom all ethnic Russians to remove any pretext for interference from Russia.

I doubt it's much different in Latvia but our strategy is a mix of guerilla warfare and more traditional warfare, cause as much pain as possible for as long as possible and try to contact the allies. It's based off of Finnish Winter War strategies, the independence war and what the Forest Brothers did mostly.

>Estonia… Emm… I'l let Eeestianon explain it better.

A rush towards Tallinn and trying to cut off chain of command. Almost half the population lives in Tallinn, so it is a rather key area. Second on the agenda would probably be other port cities (Pärnu) and then Tartu. Saaremaa has historically been a pain in the ass for anyone who tried to invade it, going as far back as the northern crusades.

>Strong nationalism with ocasional slav hangings. There has always been tension, particularly in bigest cities, where 50% of the city is leftover slav citizens from soviet union that are too stupid to learn the local language for 30 years now. Actual white niggers. Also one third of them belive everything they see on russian TV channels.

Accurate. Some are actually willing to learn the language, but a fair bit just want to live here since it's way better than Russia but are too lazy to integrate. It's a war of influence over the Russians here and the Russian government and their propaganda machine have a clear advantage. I don't hate Russians, but I have a deep dislike for about 60% of the ones that live here since they are nostalgic for the USSR and many of them view us as fascists since we saw the Germans as a preferable alternative to the USSR. They also steal a lot, abuse narcotics a lot, import fentanyl a lot and are generally seen as less trustworthy. They're basically a fifth column group.

>>648647

>Are weapons common in the balts?

Last time a large number of reservists were called to arms here, the time it took to arm everyone was pretty fast, so anyone willing to defend will be carrying a AK4 or Galil pretty rapidly and regional units will start strategizing and roads will start being blocked. Their movement is heavily reliant on roads, we aren't. Then it's infantry vs infantry.

>Isn’t it a bad idea to set your first line of defence against a sea with nowhere to fall back?

It's not going to be a traditional war with a front line, even the concept of having one is going to be short term. We'll just hold the capital as long as possible and hope that NATO and the EU won't leave us to die (probably not, since as I have stated previously the US, UK, French and Germans won't be particularly pleased about having their citizens and soldiers die to Russians.) An important factor is also who will control the Baltic sea, since if NATO establishes a foothold on it rapidly then the odds will be a lot better. See again, Saaremaa and Pärnu, which can supplement as the capital and base for supplies and allies to come in.

>Is a Russian invasion even a possibility?

It is. It will probably play out if/when all the NATO troops leave the country and when their propaganda machine goes to full swing, then they will step in to "liberate" the minority via Ukraine style hybrid warfare strategies. Russia is not to be trusted and they are not your friend. Putin is a person who is a massive USSR nostalgic and he has even called its collapse "the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century." Unfortunately, very many Russians agree with that.

You never know with them. Putin no longer rides the popularity wave he gained from taking Crimea, and could be looking at a new adventure to boost his ratings. Russians in Russia are actually awakening to the fact that Putin is not the hero they need right now. The voice of Kremlin sounds sweeter the further away from it you are, so there are plenty of idiots here who belive it.

Our defensive capabilities will likely depend on who controlls the Baltic sea. If it's NATO, we are fine, because 1/3rd of our territory can be covered with ship artillery. Add some cruise missiles and we can liberate Daugavpils from the Riga bay.

I'm not entirely sure if we are receptive to the idea of destroying our cities. Narva, a formerly majority Estonian city was destroyed almost entirely by reds and was repopulated by Soviet (mostly Russian) workers under Stalin's command and "rebuilt" with a bunch of commieblocks. Sad story, that city is.

Went down the mil.ee picture archives a bit, and I found pictures of some of them using AKs with bayonets. I thought we put those into storage entirely. We bought them in the early 90s right after we left the USSR from China, since they were really the only ones who even considered doing business with us back then. Later in the 90s we received cheap/donated surplus equipment from the Swedes since they invested a lot into the Baltics and our relations were extremely friendly.

Worth noting that Milrem is actually majority owned by Patria as of late 2017, although all the work is still done in Estonia with partnerships all over the world. I don't mind it – at least it's not BAE Systems.

It seemed inevitable for Milrem to use the platform as a ATGM carrier, they first unveiled it back in 2015 or 2016 I think. They've also shown off other variants of it, including 20mm autocannon, .50 cal MG and 40mm grenade launcher models.

Our former general, Riho Terras, is also working at Milrem Robotics now.

This also now means that Estonia finally is building something on it's own instead of relying on the west for everything, about time. Now it's time to start making our own ammo.

Don't get that excited. These kind of drones lack awareness just like tanks do, therefore you'd actually need a crew of 2-3 people to effectively use one. So they can't replace infantry, and are effectively just high-tech tankettes.

6a4fbb  No.650239

What kind of missile is that in milrem-50845721.jpg?

Looks like an MMP.

How would you quickly move one of those into position? Lets say that little green army men are spotted a kilometer into Estonian territory, and all of the army now has to move it's troops to defensive positions. How would you move those things?

Pulling them behind trucks or having them drive there autonomously won't work because they aren't fast enough/don't have the range, and the tracks are counterproductive for getting pulled.

Ferrying them via truckbed would be risky, because you would have to get into the path of the enemy advance and then GTFO before they actually arrive. And a big logistics truck is obviously going to attract attention.

So what is their purpose? Placed in position beforehand? Kept in storage around major cities/strongpoints and moved out as SHTF? Deterrent right at the border meant to be used partly as patrol/first contact vehicles?

53f5b3  No.650249

>>650239

>what missile

MMP, as you said. It's on the MBDA MMP webpage.

They drive 22km/h or so. I would assume they're moved in macro with just some trucks. In micro they can move with their own drivetrain.

>So what is their purpose?

They're mostly an assistant to infantry. After it's with a unit it will stay with them, it's really perfect for scout and ambush movements and being able to carry more firepower than a infantry unit can while moving around silently or performing flanking manoeuvres in a battle.

>as patrol/first contact vehicles?

Yes, patrol is a major selling point and shown in their advertisements and such.

Some specs from the MBDA PDF on it.

>THeMIS UGV is a fully modular diesel-electric unmanned ground vehicle that can operate up to 10h with a full tank, including up to 1,5h in silent mode. It has a top speed of 22 km/h and can carry a payload of 750 kg. It can be operated line of sight, via cameras or equipped with an autonomy kit for fully autonomous operation.

6a4fbb  No.650266

>>650249

>In micro they can move with their own drivetrain.

While 22km/h is quick for infantry, it's very slow for motorised or mechanised infantry. Of course they don't need to cross large distances in a Blitzkrieg sort of way, because their main purpose is defensive..

>can operate up to 10h with a full tank, including up to 1,5h in silent mode

So is it using electric engines or fuel engines? Or a combination of both for "loud" and "silent" modes?

Also: is the 750kg limit reached when weapons are fully loaded, or can infantry use them to carry all their shit too?

This is stepping into the large (small) footprints of the Wiesel. Do these things have some sort of drivers seat that can be mounted? That would be ideal for ferrying it around and get it into position a lot easier.

Yeah, but it's a relatively small thing. I'd imagine you can disassemble and reassemble them, or toss them on the back of a transport.

>So is it using electric engines or fuel engines? Or a combination of both for "loud" and "silent" modes?

Hybrid. Diesel-electric.

>Also: is the 750kg limit reached when weapons are fully loaded, or can infantry use them to carry all their shit too?

Themis transport and weapons platforms are different things. Transport is literally just a driving box that follows around (or even carries) troops, weapons platforms aren't meant to carry anything other than the weapons. Read their website a bit.

https://milremrobotics.com/themis/

UGVs and what they should do and how they should work with infantry is still a question that's up in the air, since they are so new of a concept.

I find it somewhat funny that our ceremonial weapon is a M14, a weapon that we have zero connection to. Wish we had Lee-Enfields, since to my knowledge the British did supply us with those during the Independence war and they were used a fair bit.

ESTSOF guys were also present there, those guys have a fair bit of cool gear, some of which isn't very publicly known. I recall them even having automatic grenade launchers, something that no one else has their hands on here.

>>652335

Okay, sure.

Here's a rundown of all the major parties:

Centre Party: A party that got big because they shilled to Russians living here and are now taking a more general approach. Mostly centre-left and have a retarded "gibs me dat" economic policy, only really voted for by Russians and Tallinners. They also have put our government in the red iirc, something no one else has managed to pull off before. Strictly speaking they have ran things smoothly, with our economy still growing and most things going relatively well, but they're still corrupt as fuck, shill to Russians and have increased our taxes and welfare programs to high hell. Something that made lots of people angry was them increasing alcohol tax to Finnish tier prices, nowadays people close to the south would rather just buy alcohol from Latvia and there was a big protest of people going to Latvia to buy alcohol when it first passed. I can attest to this since my family buys alcohol from Latvia and I live close to the border.

They're also corrupt as fuck. They are the most corrupt party in our history, without a doubt.

Reform Party: Former leading party, centre-right and VERY economically liberal. Mostly avoid social issues, popular with business minded people. Sensible economic policy, making things easier for start ups and lowering taxes. Not bad on the economic side, really, but there's corruption issues, they don't care one bit about the environment and it feels as if they will just sell off the country. Most of the country (as in regions) majority support them, including our second largest city. They're basically neck to neck with Centre in terms of votes, but results are in 3 days. No worse than them, but same old shit at the end of the day and their leadership last time was questionable, but they did pull through without completely destroying things.

They also have a massive marketing budget, just like Centre. Marketing budgets really are such a huge influence here, and of course no one will regulate such a thing since both Centre and Reform LIVE off of it.

EKRE (by which I assume you mean the traditional nationalist party): The party for /pol/ and idiots who only care about having sweet nothings whispered in their ear. Popular with Christians and old people. They have grown massively primarily thanks to the migrant crisis, but since the large wave of that is over I think they're decreasing again in popularity.

Retarded economic policy – practically none to speak of in reality. Hey, let's increase our welfare programs and lower taxes at the same time. What could go wrong? Lots could. They don't like talking about economics too often, since they have no fucking clue who they want to pander to. Do we pander to Reform voters who want low taxes and a liberal policy, or do we pander to Centre and left voters who want more welfare and gibs? They promise things too much, they promise things they can't fulfill.

Lots of pandering to fear politics, their ads are just pure fear politics and populism to the max. It's just a rapid fire list of all the bad things that old people don't like and want:

>no gay propaganda

<practically non existent, we did pass gay marriage laws long ago and I personally don't give a fuck about it

>no migrants and refugees

<even if none of them came here when the crisis was at the peak, and when they did they left quickly to Germany and things have stayed all the same

>increasing wages

<even if they have no idea on how they want to do that, and as previously stated their economic policy is pants on head retarded

If I was 20 years older and had dropped 20 IQ points I'd be a EKRE voter. No one who votes EKRE thinks long term, they think on primal urge.

Below this is largely irrelevant. A notable one called Eesti 200 was announced last year in May I think with a manifesto on a popular newspaper. They did everything for attention and flopped hard, policy was generic neoliberal shit

IRL: The former leading conservative right party, who are currently in coalition with I-shit-you-not Centre and the Social Democrats. They compromise too easy and have no spine. Basically equal in terms of votes as SDE, IIRC. Falling off now, EKRE took their spot by being more reactionary.

SDE (Social Democrats): I'm not in the mood for my country and people to commit suicide yet, so no. Again, popular with Russians but not as much as Centre. Usual bullshit of gay rights, minority rights and general faggotry. Basically dying out now, just like IRL. Only popular group they have is teachers.

My guess is that LMT will keep their contract, it's 22m vs Sig's 27m and in most respects the LMT rifles performed just as well as the others.

LMT's offering isn't far off from their MARS rifle for the Kiwis, but it has a short stroke gas piston instead of being DI like theirs. It's a custom job, isn't actually sold by them for civilians yet.

Sig's offer was their MCX line.

H&Ks offer was the 416 and 417.

All offerings had to be short stroke gas piston based, have short and standard service length 5.56 rifles and a 7.62 DMR.

Not sure if it's short stroke, though. First rifles are set to arrive by this or next year, if the winner is selected and no more disputes come up on the contract. According to the government the rifles were all excellent and the LMT ones performed just as well as the Sig and H&K ones but they just cost less.

Their warranty terms were the most generous too, and how they handled the two issues that popped up on the NZ rifle was pretty good.

Baltic Germans Estophiles were really important to the 100-200 years prior to us establishing our own country.

On the other hand, Germans also started shit during our independence war, where they started fighting with both us and the Latvians while we were fighting the Soviets. Them losing that war was the end of the Baltic Germans, and they integrated or left marking the end of their identity for the most part.

>Baltic Germans

They're still around and pretty fucking bitter, probably as bitter as the Junker's that Kohl stabbed in the back.

>Baltic Germans still remember

They better do. They started shit trying to re-establish Livonia and kicked the Russians out, and when they were weakened enough we only then attempted to kick them out too.

Though we cool with Baltic Germans, they are ok. If it wasn't for mid-20th century fuckups, they would still be a nice minority to have around. Definetally better than russians.

Interesting bit of news that isn't related to the EDF, but is to civilian gun ownership here: our gun licenses are going to go digital. It's a month old news now but I missed it.

>The primary difference is that a gun license applier no longer has to come to a Police and Border Patrol office to apply or receive a gun license or register a purchased gun.

>If needed, a gun license applier can still show up to a office and have them make a digital application on behalf of the person.

>This doesn't mean that all contact with Police and Border Patrol officers is culled. A check up is still made for what a person's lifestyle is like (which is to say, do you have a mental illness and do you have a criminal record.) Additionally the conditions in which a purchased weapon is stored in is also checked (which is to say, you have to own a safe to own guns.)

You have to pay a fee to your family physician to get a certificate (which is carried onto your digital ID), a 30€ stamp tax to apply and a 30€ stamp tax to do both the paper and live fire exams. I think it's kinda bullshit that I have to pay anything to the government to get access to a right like this considering we already pay high as hell taxes with low wages, but whatever. At least the rights that you have once you have your hands on a license are alright.

Not much news as of now. Artillery battalion had some live fire exercises, Anti-air battalion trained with Brits who don't have much experience in forests, Defence Forces commander visited Sweden and Estpla-28 is leaving Mali and Estpla-30 just entered it.

The LMT deal is still not done yet and Sig did take them to court, but apparently the deal for the rifles is already signed and in the works right now so it shouldn't slow things down.

On the political side, the new Coalition happens to be Centre party + the 2 leading right wing conservative parties. Really unexpected, apparently they agreed to increase the defence budget by 0.1% of GDP each year they rule. I think it's the ideal, since it means Centre has some brains left and they understand that with EKRE now being the third largest party compromise is unavoidable. Reform ruled EKRE out entirely, and now despite winning elections they're forced to concede with trying to work with socialists who have very little foothold.
