Since this board wouldn't suffer from getting a new post after a month, does anyone have Kaiju related charts? Mainly recommendations for someone new to the genre and willing to get into it?

The classic being Godzilla 54, though id highly recommend the 2014 remake too.

Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster and Destroy All Monsters are great.

Mothra and Rodan are good movies of toho kaijus who became part of the Godzilla world.

King Kong Vs Godzilla is a all time classic.

Godzilla Vs. Hedorah has a good anti-pollution message, but the tone shifts so much.

the 80's and 90's Godzilla movies are all around great.

Godzilla 2000 is great aswell as Final Wars.

The Mothra trilogy of the 90s are decent. And well Gamera is a hit or miss with some movies, but the 90s Gamera movies were great.

Cloverfield is a great found footage Kaiju film, even if we will never get a sequel.

If you want shit, there is Gappa and Zarkorr.

Pacific Rim has some really great monster designs and while not kaiju movie per say, but still featuring large monsters, I'd recommend Sector 7 and the Host.

List of my personal reviews of all the Godzilla films:

Godzilla (1954 film) - The original that started it all, id suggest watching the original Japanese version since the American version just has a few scenes of Raymond Burr explaining shit.

Godzilla Raids Again - A slight shift in tone from the original this has Godzilla in his first ever Vs movie, also the last black and white movie its a good movie, even if the production is a little weak.

King Kong vs. Godzilla - An all time classic movie, a really well done fight between two of the greatest monsters. A must see.

Mothra vs. Godzilla - Another cross-over like Godzilla vs King Kong, has a good message and is the last movie were Godzilla is the bad guy.

Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster - First movie were Godzilla is the good guy aswell as the first time he teams up with other monster, also a cross-over since Rodan is now in the movie. One of the best Godzilla films and presents to us Godzilla greatest foe Ghidorah.

Invasion of Astro-Monster - Sequel to the previous movie, slightly goofy but all around good.

Ebirah, Horror of the Deep - Originally was ment to be a King Kong movie by Toho, Godzilla was put in instead. Still a good movie, even if Godzilla acts a little different.

Son of Godzilla - A slightly goofy movie that has Godzilla adopt a "possible" baby Godzilla. Goofy but warm hearted as it gives Godzilla a parental look.

Destroy All Monsters - One of the best Kaiju movies of all time, an all out monster brawl with possibly the biggest cast of monsters. A must see.

All Monsters Attack - Total shit, gave Godzilla and monster movies in general a bad name for seeming like "little kid stuff".

Godzilla vs. Hedorah - Great anti-pollution message and one of the most deadly and creepy monsters Godzilla ever fought. The only downside is the drastic shift in tone thoughout the movie, from being doomish and gloom to campy and happy. A must see.

Godzilla vs. Gigan - Another great movie that introduces another classic foe of Godzilla. Also features the first and only time Godzilla and another kaiju talked.

Godzilla vs. Megalon - A huge miss, while Megalon is a good monster, the movie fell flat. This movie like All Monsters Attack gave Godzilla and monster movies a bad name by seeming "Kid friendly". Weird story, weak monster fights and all around to goofy.

Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla - Like Ghidorah, this movie introduces one of Godzillas greatest foes MechaGodzilla. A must see, also one of the first movies were blood is used.

Terror of MechaGodzilla - A decent sequel to the previous movie.

The Godzilla Power Hour - 70s Hanna Barbara Cartoon of Godzilla, very goofy and campy but still fun to watch.

Part 2:

The Return of Godzilla - A great comeback for the King Of Monsters, gives Godzilla a more animalistic feel.

Godzilla vs. Biollante - One of the best Godzilla movies made, not only story wise, but visually. A must see.

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah - A return of Godzillas greatest foe Ghidorah, the movie has a slightly goofy store but it has great visuals and amazing monster scenes.

Godzilla vs. Mothra: Battle For Earth - This movie is a hit and miss in some areas, not very memorable but thats just my opinions. Battra is a great monster though.

Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2 - While it sounds like a sequel its not. This is a new MechaGodzilla and Godzilla, features Rodan and Baby Godzilla (really cute kaiju)

Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla - A pretty good movie, while baby Godzilla gets more goofy looking the idea of a SpaceGodzilla is neat and the fight scenes and visuals are great.

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah - The final movie of the heisei timeline, Godzilla fights (in my opinion) greatest enemy ever. Great fights, visuals, story and monsters.

Godzilla 98 - First American Godzilla movie. The movie itself was a bomb, it was an insult to the name of Godzilla. So much that Toho made said "Godzilla" a separate monster call "Zilla". As a Godzilla movie it sucks, but if you watch it as a movie about a different monster named "Zilla" its alright.

Godzilla 2000: Millennium - A good return of Godzilla, good story and visuals.

Godzilla vs. Megaguirus - The story is a little weak, but some of the visuals and monster scenes are nice.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack - A direct sequel to Godzilla 54, Godzilla comes back as an entity made of the angry ghosts of WWII. The story is interesting, but Godzilla in this movie is pure evil. Gives you the feel that Godzilla will never go away.

Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla - Godzilla fights against MechaGodzilla this time, except this MechaGodzilla is built from the fossils of the first Godzilla. Pretty neat.

Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. - Sequel to the previous movie, its alright.

Godzilla: Final Wars - A Destroy All Monsters like movie, with a slightly goofy story, Dragon Ball Z like fights and tons of monsters.

Godzilla (2014 film) - A reboot of the series, second American Godzilla movie ever made. In my opinion this is an amazing movie, it isnt a 2 hour monster fight fest like people thought. Its a good Godzilla Vs movie that gives more background to the other monster than Godzilla.

Other Good Kaiju Films:

Pacific Rim - Giant alien monsters fighting giant robots. Has cool designs, a great story and amazing visuals.

Cloverfield - Found footage styled monster movie. Gives you the lost and confused feeling, monster is rarely seen but when it is, you can feel the fear.

The Host - While not a giant monster, a monster non-the less. Korean parasitic monster.

Gamera - the 60s and 70s Gamera movies are all campy and goofy since Gamera was "Friend of all children", exception is his first movie Gamera: The Invincible. The 90s Gamera movies are much more interesting as its a reboot and he is now Guardian of the Universe, alot more interesting store, monsters and visuals. Avoid Gamera: The Brave, shit movie.

King Kong - Do I really need to tell you? The classic and reboots are all good.

Mothra - The original Mothra movie was amazing, great story and visuals. The 90s Mothra movies had really amazing special effects, but the stories are kinda goofy.

Rodan - A great movie all around for a 50s monster movie.

Varan The Unbelievable - Like Rodan and Mothra, Varan became part of the Godzilla universe, but he did have his own movie. It was black and white and used alot of stock footage. Still kinda decent. You either like it or don't.

Frankenstein vs. Baragon - Yes Toho did a Frankenstein movie, I really didn't like it, you might. It did feature Baragon though, one of my favorite Kaijus so there is that.

King Kong Escapes - A Toho King Kong movie that was well done. Was the first Kaiju movie to feature a kaiju fighting a robot version of himself.

Atragon - A movie about a Undersea Battleship that sets off to stop the nation of Mu. Features the Kaiju Manda. Pretty good.

Gappa - Shit kaiju movie, but its one of those so bad its good movies.

War of the Gargantuas - It's alright, all I can really say.

Reptilian (2001) - A Remake of the 67 movie Yongary. Has really bad CGI but I enjoyed it, work a try.

Yongary - One of the most popular Korean kaiju films.

The Beast From 20,000 fathoms - A classic

Them! - Another classic

Gorgo - British Godzilla knock-off, but its good.
