Someone close to me wants to go to sleep and I don't know what to do anymore I've tried calming him down but he still wants to do it I have managed to stall it so far but don't know how long I will be able to please help I feel like I'm out of options.

stop trying to do this yourself his life is at stake tell his family bring him to the ER to be taken in for psychiatric inpatient work and get in touch with a professional therapist

 No.27410

I would but we are only friends online I don't really have a perfect set of social skills but I don't know how to get in touch with his parents and how to get him to go to a therapist even less so because he's also in another country and thank you for replying on such a short notice.

I mean keep trying, and do your best, but if your only agency over the situation is tied to a device he could turn off if he wanted to there's not really all that much you can do…

 No.27413

has he explained he's reasoning for desiring an end to his own life? Perhaps with more information we can help you construct a counter argument to his current line of thought

 No.27419

Thanks for the support, he was being threatened by someone and couldn't take it anymore but I've managed to talk him out of it thank you for the advice.

Why make him go through hell twice?

Why do you want him to be alive?

What makes you think that he is wrong and that his life is really worth living?

The fact that OP knows about his buddy's plan implies that this is more of a cry for help than an actual intent of suicide.

If your friend is suicidal, listen to him. No matter how dark it gets. Don't try to talk him out of it, otherwise he might shut up from you not taking him seriously and be in real danger to himself alone. The fact that the conversation exists means it's helping.

People kill themselves when they no longer feel they have control over their lives to end their pain. On top of that might be shame, guilt, despair, or grief but the lack of control is the underlying reason. Attempting to talk them out of it takes what little control they have left and heightens suicidal feelings. Many have made this mistake and lost their friends.

I figured I'd be the only one giving this kind of advice (before getting distracted) and I'd get snapped at. I'm glad Madotsuki guy posted fitst though because all I was gonna say is that while you of course don't want your friend to do something so terrible you should respect his feelings to do so. So right, don't outright tell him not to but be supportive all the same in hopes you can sway him.

Did you help him resolve the problem then?

If not maybe we could get an idea of it and put our heads together?
