Rules

This board affirms the 5 solaes of the Protestant Reformation and 66 books of scripture.

Sola Scriptura

Sola Fide

Sola Gratia

Soli Deo Gloria

Solus Christus

http://www.fivesolas.com/5solas.htm

We affirm various creeds (Synod of Dort, Westminster Confession of Faith, Belgic Confession). I am a Reformed Baptist. So I affirm the doctrines of grace/Calvinism.

This board is welcome to all Christian denominations, and other various religions (Islam, Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Hinduism, Mormonism).

However this board is really for the fellowship of Baptist, Lutherans, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Calvinist, Methodist, Pentecostals, Charismatics, Presbyterians and Evangelicals. Pretty much most if not all Protestant denominations that hold to the 5 solaes.

I welcome debate on doctrine, inter-religious debates and discussion.

The only reasons you will be banned are:

1. Posting pornography (especially child pornography)

2. S***posting, which is just essentially posting to stir up people

3. Post irrelevant stuff (that which has nothing to do with Christianity, the church, nor Christians)

4. Excessive foul language

Keep it clean and stay on topic, and you'll have a good time.

Note, I am not KJV-only.

How to restore the Church of England to it's former glory?

How to restore the Church of England to it's former glory?

The church of England was perfect.

- Protestant

- Reformed (39 articles of the faith)

- Catholic

- Apostolic

- Liturgical

- Episcopal

- Common Book of Prayer

- Authorised King James Version

- Tradition

I for one suggest;

- Remove women as priests

- Go conservative

- Press harder on morality

- Offer the eucharist once a week

- Focus on liturgy

Calvinists

Why was Calvin so wrong?

I can prove - without a doubt - that John Calvin is not one of the 'elect', and certainly won't be amongst those that are saved. And being a damned man, it invalidates his entire theological base, namely that of pre-destination, which many Protestant (heretical) 'churches' (i.e. sects) follow.

Calvin was quite a very petty man, and made it a point to ruin and even kill those that in any way were superiors to him in any way. We can start with the example of Sebastian Castellio, a very intelligent man who had become a Reformationist upon being moved by the agonized screams of 'heretics' put to death at the stake by the Inquisition. Initially, Castellio got on very well with John Calvin, upon arriving at Geneva. However, things began to change as others perceived Castellio as a man of greater intelligence and authority and piety than Calvin (in one well-known example, Castellio was the only member of the influential clergy who personally visited with those afflicted by scourge, offering words of comfort and praying with them, while Calvin hid in his house [funnily enough, why should Calvin have been afraid? For surely, according to him, he had been pre-destined to spread his 'true' version of the Gospel, and thus, would have survived the plague, meaning he was a hypocrite) which caused this petty man to devote himself to ruining Castellio, driving him to poverty in which he died, and only because of the intervention of the other intellectuals of Europe did Calvin not outright kill him.

Then we have the case of Michael Servetus, who was a Reformationist-minded man and even a friend of Calvin, though the latter eventually broke it off in the style of a triggered SJW/Tumblrina who can't bear to hear someone say something even slightly dissenting, even if it is politely and in good faith. Calvin then devoted himself to plan for Servetus' death, arranging for him to suffer a "painful death, for beheading is too kind", even though - being a foreigner -, the law of Geneva could not actually put him to death. However, through maneuvering entirely on his part, John Calvin was able to assure that Servetus was burned at the stake, and - due to his influence - was able to arrange for it to be as painful as possible (green wood was used, because it would burn slower and allow Servetus' body to literally 'bake' before being seared; at the very last minute, Calvin instructed that Servetus' book - consisting of correspondence with Calvin - be strapped to Servetus' face, so that these would go up in flames and burn his face in agonizing torment). Calvin would later boast and celebrate the killing of this man, whom many other Reformationist-minded men had held up as a man of great piety, virtue, and intelligence.

Which brings me to the point: if John Calvin had been pre-destined to be saved, as he so ardently believed, then he would have been unable to commit any grievous act as he did, and many times throughout his life. As such, seeing as he did commit many grievous acts, it is obvious that he did not even fulfill his own criteria for those who are elected by God before Creation, meaning he is damned, even by his own 'theology' (literally on the same tier as Dianetics). And why should the teachings on Godly matters deriving from a damned soul be taught? As such, John Calvin's ideas should be considered not only irrelevant, but of demonic origin.

Thank you.

Wearing a Cross Necklace as a Reminder to Follow a Christian Life

According to Scripture, what is said of wearing a cross necklace?

Other than reminding me to avoid sin and to follow the Commandments, it's also a visual cue people can take so they don't approach me and talk to me about their daily degeneracy.

Hey, Ozfailians on this board: any from NSW and into hip-hop?

Who the f-ck is Kodi Maybir?!

Both the Fairfax papers and ABC have had the story of this guy as one of their top stories, which is fine, except that EVERY time they mention him, there's three (or four) words prefixing or post-fixing his name: Christian hip hop artist or Christian music producer

I thought I knew sh!t about the hip-hop scene, but apparently not, cuz I have never heard of this guy. So, two questions: is he famously Christian and is he famously a hip-hop artist/producer 'cuz if I go by the headlines, I might be inclined to think this is the ABC and Fairfax doing their little atheist dance on a child's grave.

So, on ABC 8 Oct 2015, 2:33pm

>Kodi Maybir trial: Man who initially blamed pogo stick fall for boy's death admits he lied

>A hip-hop artist initially blamed a pogo stick fall for the death of his girlfriend's son in Sydney's south, but later admitted this was false, a court has heard.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-08/kodi-maybir-accused-of-killing-boy-admits-lying-about-death/6836908

So, he's a hip-hop artist, although there's no mention of that in the story, but we'll assume it's the same as saying "truck driver", his job, but there's no mention of his being a Christian.

And then Stephanie Boulet, whoever she is, takes over the reporting four days later from ABC's court reporter, Karl Hoerr, as follows:

>Christian music producer accused of killing girlfriend's son subjected him to a 'Spartan regime', court hears

>A Christian music producer subjected his girlfriend's son to a "Spartan-like regime" in the months leading up to his death which…

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-07/christian-music-producer-subjected-boy-spartan-regime-court/6835224

Now, I am not one for leaping up-n-down whenever the news reports on Christians misbehaving, but, I kid you not, those are the only two times the word "Christian" appear in the article. There is no justification for using this term, no explanation as to what makes him a "Christian", no mention of his church, his pastor, priest… nothing… just the headline.

And having set the tone, today, the court reporter is back using the same adjectives without justification:

>Kodi Maybir, Christian hip hop artist, sentenced to 31 years' jail for murdering girlfriend's 7yo son

>A Christian hip hop artist who systematically abused and then killed his girlfriend's seven-year-old son has been sentenced to at least 31 years and six months in jail.

Once again, those are the only two times the word "Christian" appear in the article.

See, I can look around the internet and find out from VICE that he was in hip-hop, and they spend three paragraphs before the word "Christian" appears, and pretty contextually, too:

>This verdict has come as a weird twist to Maybir’s non-illustrious career as a Christian hip-hop artist.

Agreed. And then, in the NINTH paragraph they back-up their claim:

>Many of Maybir’s songs have a religious focus and mention his faith in God and Jesus. He sings about his skills and love of rap, and intersperses stories from his life with philosophical insights.

See, that's what I call journalism, actually bothering to justify your claims with evidence. Not Fairfax or the ABC. They're too busy making sure the word "Christian" is as CLOSE to the word "murder" or "accused" to be bothered actually explaining why they use that adjective.

See, 'cuz even the artist himself doesn't call himself a Christian:

>General Kopri has survived the rugged journey called the Sydney Rap/Hip Hop scene for the past 11 years after his solo album release in 2010 the renegade has returned but this time the General Kopri means business! With a fresh new look and still armed with his SWAT jacket, this exaggerated entertainer will have you wanting more and replaying his videos over and over.. For the past 3 years the General has been locked away preparing his second album here he is with his first hit single of the year Brighter Than The Brightest Day inspired by his ex wife who had an affair, Kopri got himself together and came back on fire."

But, his music is pretty clear:

https://youtu.be/tJhe33aChwc?t=55s

I'm not asking for the world, but couldn't the ABC/Fairfax have just included that paragraph in their reporting? They spent all day at court, so couldn't they have at least MENTIONED something about his Christianness rather than make me seriously scratch my head and want to start accusing them of bias, before half-an-hour's research on the interwebz solves my annoyance. Could they not have saved me that half-hour? I'm no shrill opponent of their liberalism, not one to vociferously accuse them of anti-religious bias, but they made me want to for a moment because they dropped one word twice into an article without ever bothering to explain why.

So, /kjv/ how was ~~mass~~ church?

>N.R. Needham’s 2,000 Years of Christ’s Power, Vol. 1: Age of the Early Church Fathers, part of a very accessible but well-informed multi-volume survey of church history. On pp. 66-75 he outlines a fairly typical church service in the second century (A.D. 101-200), based on descriptions and instructions found in the early Church fathers.

>Part 1: Service of the Word

>1. Opening greeting by bishop and response by the congregation. Often, the bishop would say “The Lord be with you” and the congregation would respond, “And with your spirit.”

>2. Old Testament Scripture reading. Usually read or chanted by a deacon.

>3. Psalm or hymn (I). Chanted or sung.

>4. New Testament Scripture reading (I). This first NT reading was from any NT book outside the gospels.

>5. Psalm or hymn (II).

>6. New Testament Scripture reading (II). From one of the four gospels.

>7. Sermon. Delivered by the bishop, while seated.

>8. Dismissal of all but baptized believers.

>Part 2: The Eucharist

>1. Congregational prayers. The prayer leader—the bishop in the West; senior deacon in the East—would announce the first topic. The congregation prayed silently for a while. Then the leader summed up the petitions with his own spoken prayer. Then he would do the same pattern again with a new topic. This was a lengthy part of the service. Early Christian art suggests that a typical posture from praying was standing, looking heavenward, with arms outstretched and palms up.

>2. The Lord’s Supper. Here’s the order: (1) the bishop offered a greeting; (2) the congregation responded; (3) there was a “kiss of peace” (men to men, women to women); (4) church members brought their own small loaf of bread and flask of wine from home; the deacons took these and spread them out on the Lord’s table, emptying the flasks of wine into one large silver cup. (5) The bishop and the congregation engaged in a liturgical “dialogue” with the congregation; (6) the bishop led the congregation in prayer; (7) the bishop and the deacons broke the bread and distributed the cup to the congregation. (8) Something would be said to each member as he or she received the elements (e.g., “The bread of heaven in Christ Jesus,” with the response of “Amen.”) Unconsumed bread and wine would be taken home by church members to use for celebrating communion at home during the weekdays.

>3. Benediction. E.g., “Depart in peace,” spoken by the deacon.

So, /kjv/, given Jesus said "Do this in remembrance of me", how often in a typical month would your church have the Eucharist?

Knowing God Through the Bible

Assume that I am an atheist, or agnostic due to ignorance, I have never been exposed to Christianity and don't believe in God or Gods. I meet Christians and develop an interest in their religion, and they direct me to the Bible.

How can I gain a Testimony of Jesus Christ? How can I read the Bible and believe it to be a text unlike any other, mystical in nature because the Creator of the Universe (or whomever) had a hand in its creation. Is it automatic, like you read it and you know? Must it be read a certain way? Must I meditate and get some kind of "answer" from the spirit realm?

How can the Bible make me believe in the God it testifies of? How did it make you believe?

Literal and Figurative Biblical Interpretation

What parts of the Bible are literal fact and what parts of the Bible are allegory, poetry and metaphor?

What parts must be interpreted literally, and (if any) what parts must be interpreted figuratively? What are the consequences of interpreting scripture incorrectly in this specific context?

I'm using definitive language for the sake of clarity but this is obviously a matter of opinion.

Comedic Bible Stories

What are your guys' favorite Bible Stories that make you lol?

I'm reading through the Bible, cover to cover, and last week I came to Numbers 11. The Israelites were complaining as usual, reminiscing of their life in Egypt, sick of the manna God had been providing them and demanding meat. So God, like the perfect judge He is, tells the Israelites: You will not eat meat for one day, or two days, or five, or 10 or 20. But for 30 days you will eat meat. So much that it will be coming out of your nostrils and it will nauseate you. So the next day God caused Quail to be swept in from the sea and cover the ground 3 feet high, a days journey in every direction. They spent all day and all night collecting the quails. The Israelite to collect the least had 50 bushels. Before they could finish chewing the meat God had sent another round and this plague continued for another 28 days.

Be careful what you ask for.

Q and A on Calvinism

What is Calvinism? A lot of you might not know what is, or if you do it usually involves a caricature or straw-man of it. Now it might just be how you were taught but I hope to clear up misconceptions about Calvinism. It is also referred to as the 'doctrines of grace'.

Calvinism can be defined by TULIP. Even though John Calvin, the Swiss-French Reformer, didn't think it up. It was used by opponents of Calvinism.

One thing you should note is that people who held to Calvinistic beliefs at time of John Calvin were called Augustinians (after St. Augustine of Hippo). In addition to Calvin and St. Augustine, many others held to these beliefs such as Anselm, Gregory of Rimini, Archbishop Bradwardine and Luther's own mentor Johann von Staupitz.

A lot of Calvinist prefer S+TULIP. The S denoting God's sovereignty. His sovereignty in ruling over his creation and who He decides to save.

A remark made by Dr. James R. White that resonates with this point is, in which scenario is God the most sovereign.

a. God must save everybody (Universalism)

b. God must damn everybody (In which he would fair to do so, as he would be carrying out judgment)

c. God saves whom He pleases (Much like how a governor of a state pardons an inmate on death row)

The obvious answer is c.

The Bible clearly teaches God's sovereignty.

Psalms 115:3 “But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.”

Luke 1:37 “For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Psalms 135:6 “Whatever the Lord please, He does, In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.”

Romans 9:19-21 “You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?” On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it? Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? “

Job 42:4 “I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.”

Ephesians 1:11b “His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will,”

Acts 5:39 “but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.”

1 Timothy 6:15 “which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,”

Confused.

Hey guys, I have a few questions. I am a doubting Papist who is looking at reformed Protestantism, but I have a few questions. What of people before the Reformation? Did they all go to hell, or was the Church good for a while and then got bad? What about virtuous pagans, like Plato and Epictetus? Also, how do I know if I am saved? In Papistism, you can confess your sins before death and then you basically know where your going, but how does a protestant know if they are really saved? Sorry if these questions sound stupid, I am just in panic mode. The Church is basically stabbing conservative Papists in the back right now, inviting invaders to our countries, rejecting the death penalty(even though they've burned countless people at stake), and pandering to universalists. Reading through the Bible and seeing nothing about a Pope, confession, and countless other traditions, but then seeing that most of Europe's history is based on those traditions, and then looking at the institution that holds those traditions and seeing it getting intensely cucked, has all been extremely confusing and now I want to be saved. Please help.
