>Except for the kanji

That is, after all, the hardest part about learning Japanese.:P The Kana can be learned in days just like Hangeul, unlike Kanji which take years to learn. Kanji are a big part of Japanese so I guess what I am saying is that it feels weird to compare Kana to Hangeul instead of Kana+Kanji (written Japanese as a whole) to Hangeul (written Korean as a whole).

Just give it time and you will get used to the Hangeul.:) There are only 40 letters after all.

I know it's not much but I have an N5 certificate in Japanese.
In my experience, writing in Korean is easier than in Japanese and speaking Japanese is easier than speaking Korean. I've only been studying Korean for a few days though, so I'll probably get over the weird sounds eventually…

I've been trying to memorize the Korean alphabet since 2003…my problem is that the symbols all look way too much alike.

I have an easier time of memorizing kanji, because the symbols are more like drawings of what they represent. :)

>I've been trying to memorize the Korean alphabet since 2003…my problem is that the symbols all look way too much alike.

Mhh… it shouldn't take 11 years to learn 24 letters which most people are able to learn within a few days and some within a day. My guess is that by "trying to memorize the Korean alphabet since 2003" you don't mean you have literally been studying the alphabet for 11 years. Am I correct?

I think I know a way that you can be helped. Mnemonics. Check out the Korean courses on memrise.com

Have you looked up how it is to work in Korea? Overtime, low pay, barely any breaks, are all common there.

>I can at least try to teach English there

If you think you can manage an entire year teaching English in Korea, go for it.
I suggest you look up some videos about this before you decide to teach English in Korea, especially about hagwons (private schools).

Lol, we aren't talking about anything important really. Mostly just poking fun at being teased about things, which happens in like all entertainment media really I guess. But stalling can get really annoying in anime/manhwa/manga. You guys remember DBZ? About 3/4 of each episode was spent powering up and smack talking, then by the end of the season they have finally powered up enough to do battle, but they are still gonna smack talk while they do it. Ok, that's an exaggeration, and I love DBZ, but you get the point.

Also, we don't even need to black text this stuff, but I am doing it anyway to keep up the trend. I feel cool. Do you guys feel cool? Cuz I do. It is like we are part of some secret club or something. A secret club on a site that is itself a secret club! And what makes it even more secret is the fact that barely anyone uses this board.:(

>I saw someone talking about doing a Daily Korean Thread as a counterpart to the Daily Japanese Thread in /a/ and /v/

That was me.:) Essentially the plan is that it is going to be a copy of the DJT's style, but applied to Korean. The DJT docs have been around for a long time (started on 4chan I do believe) so why fix what ain't broke? As for /r/korean's resources, I already have a somewhat edited list of those (personal preferences) because I am a wiki editor at /r/duolingo and I worked on compiling resources for lots of languages. You guys should definitely check /r/korean's resources list out, it's great.

Anyway, I will be posting the docs on this board within the next few days so that we can work together to try to make it somewhat acceptable for "final release" when we put it in /v/. Don't know how the reception to Korean will be, but a few people in the DJT expressed interest in such. This project isn't really about this board though, as the DKT is something that will be going in /v/ (/a/ would hate on it since its Korean) and /v/ apparently allows language threads as the DJT is still being posted there. Not really any other board options really because we need a place where people actually post. /b/ wouldn't work because, well, it's /b/. This is just about helping people learn Korean on 8chan and trying to get some people who might be casually interested in Korean actually taking it up.

6c359f No.93[Reply]

Earlier today I read some doom and gloom about the board. I would like to address that. First lets start with some facts.

#1 this board was literally only created 4 days ago (don't expect /v/ rate of posting in 4 days, or ever really). People need to realize that growth for almost all image boards here is currently a very slow process. I have been trying to spread the word about the board as much as I can and I maintain threads/make new ones in multiple relevant sections of the site. I do this because I have a love for Korean culture. As Carl Sagan once said (yes, a real quote, not some made up internet quote) "When you're in love, you want to tell the world."

#2 most people don't even know that this board exists, and the same can be said for the vast majority of user created boards. Hotwheels is eventually (if not already) supposed to be working on ways to help people find boards that they would be interested in, so hopefully that happens soon.

#3 despite the very slow pace of posting, /korea/ is doing far better than most user created boards. Crazy, right? Due to the position that /korea / is in (See for yourself here: https://8chan.co/boards.html), which is pretty high up compared to most, the slow rate of posting says far more about 8chan that the board itself, in my opinion. Currently 8chan is very focused on only about 3 boards. If you aren't posting in those 3 boards, you will often be seeing very slow responses. Even /a/ is pretty inactive, though that will possibly and hopefully change when the 2ch integration happens.

So all of that said, I would just like to encourage everyone to help promote 8chan itself so that all boards, including this one, may grow.

Also, here's to hoping we get featured as a board of the week soon.:P I will only leave this stickied for a little while so that it doesn't annoy the very few people that we have here. Thanks for reading.:)

Sorry I didn't see your post yesterday. I am on the board all the time (usually without tags for various reasons) but I still missed it. Basically my efforts for promoting /korea/ have focused almost entirely on /b/ and I think most of the people that are here found this place through a thread series that I have been doing called "Boards you frequent/would like to promote edition # X" with my opening post containing a link to this board each time. I am on edition #3 now and #1 and #2 were both actually stickied at the top of /b/ temporarily, which definitely helped. I have advertised a tiny bit on /int/ though as well. I also keep a /korea/ thread constantly bumped on /boards/.

What really needs to happen though is promotion of the board outside of 8chan itself because 8chan itself needs more users. Pulling a few users from other 8chan boards to come here is nice and all, but this board can't prosper by doing that alone in my opinion. 4chan board users used to do raids on other sites and that is how a lot of people (myself included) found out about the site in the first place. I don't know that raids for our board specifically would actually do anything, but we have to figure out a way to promote off the site at least somewhat. I wish I knew the answer to that. I would love for Korean pop culture to become a dominant force on image boards (8chan specifically of course) alongside Japanese, instead of Japanese alone.

Not saging my post unlike previous ones so that you will be more likely to see this.

China back then was very different than the China of today. There is no way in the world that China would back North Korea in a war against the US today. They have been sliding back their support for North Korea for a while now, while still not openly declaring that they no longer support them at all. Their economy relies heavily on the US. Not only would it be economic suicide, it could possibly be suicide period, as nuclear armed countries would be involved, as you pointed out.

1bd949 No.213

>>177

You forget that this is a game of two players. As much as China economically depends on the US, the US in turn depends on China, and also has its own little arsenal of nukes (though probably a lot less than the US).

As far as it regards China's relationship with North Korea - my point isn't really that China cares an awful lot about Korea, the Chinese government simply would be extremely uncomfortable with a US-controlled (or at least heavily pro-US) state directly on its boarders. If it wasn't for this, I dare to say China would have dropped North Korea long ago. An actual interesting scenario would be China itself "liberating" North Korea - even considering China is not exactly a paradise, I suppose it would be better than the current regime.

eb1636 No.181[Reply]

I noticed in the manhwa recommendation thread that some or possibly most people here haven't read what, as an anon in that thread put it, is "essential Koreaboo reading". If you are into manga, or never read any Eastern comics period, and you want to start reading manhwa, there are few series that are as good of a place to start. So I figured, instead of making a thread where everyone is expected to have read all 201 episodes (and counting) before contributing to the discussion, why not start a reading (or rereading for some of us) thread series? It will hopefully help liven things up here too.

So, what is Tower of God? Let me use Wikipedia as a guide, because the official English description on webtoons.com makes little sense and is in broken English.

>Tower of God is a manhwa style webcomic, or webtoon, written and drawn by Lee Jong-hui (Hangul: 이종휘), also known by the pen-name SIU (Slave. In. Utero). It was created in 2010 as the first story in the Talse Uzer universe. It is edited and released for free by Naver, a popular South Korean search portal. It has been phenomenal in its success, and is translated into Japanese and English by Naver, and additionally to many other languages by way of fan translations.

>The story centers around a boy called Twenty-Fifth Baam, who has spent his life trapped beneath a mysterious tower. Chasing after his only friend, he manages to open a door into the Tower, and must now face challenges at each floor of this mysterious tower as he tries to find his companion.

I decided to start with blocks of 10 episodes because I feel it really isn't that much to read when it comes to manhwa, if it were lower there wouldn't be a whole lot to discuss in the thread, and most importantly I want the barrier of entry to the initial discussion to be low. If people actually participate, I will make a new thread every (?) days for the next block of chapters, depending on the feedback given.

Original Korean: http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/detail.nhn?titleId=183559&no=1&weekday=mon

I think this is a great idea! Tower of God is my first manhwa. I'm only on chapter 2, but wow Headon is an asshole. He "forgot" to give Bam a pocket and he is trying to get Bam to give up by making him face the White Armored Eel which should be something way above his current floor level. Also, dat snicker though. I vote that he gets removed from his administrative position of the 1st floor.

e829ea No.204

I like this idea but there are few of us here as is and only a small fraction will be interested in doing this, so I am not sure if it can really be sustainable throughout the thread iterations. Sorry for the pessimism. I am going to participate though. I have started to read Tower of God and I am so confused because Bam and the girl are just like at this tower and the girl wants to die or something? Then she does? But she doesn't? Because Bam gets in the tower and then he talks about wanting to find her. Where did Bam and the girl live before this? It was like they were in some weird realm to begin with. I am just really confused about the beginning. Hopefully things will become more clear with time though.

a10870 No.211

I hope this works out.:) Tower of God is an amazing series and this seems like a good way to help introduce people to manhwa (which of course pwn manga because color and digital ftw:P). If it doesn't work out, well, at least you tried something.

>Why do so many people put up with that crap?

Because being an asshole is an acceptable part of chan culture by the vast majority. Those that oppose it are called moralfags, as if having morality is some sort of insult. Well, it is, but only on chans. This problem is not 8chan exclusive, as I am sure you know. 4chan has it just as bad if not worse due to the amount of people there. I am glad that here on 8chan we are able to create our own boards that can have their own rules that keep out assholes, since many of the big boards are run by people that don't give a damn. Lesson learned though, never go to /a/.

e79a5b No.178

To some people it's a message board, to some people it's the wild west.

64ff5b No.210

Also keep in mind that Korean and Japanese do not exactly get along. Then consider that people on /a/ are huge weeabos and therefore tend to share the Japanese sentiment on Koreans either in honest or in an ironic fashion.

Oh, and if you seriously expect polite behavior on a *chan or the internet in general, I'm sorry for you.

bcf880 No.216

>>210
>Oh, and if you seriously expect polite behavior on a *chan or the internet in general, I'm sorry for you.

I just want to point out that it is generally expected here. I don't want this board to become another asshole hellhole. If you guys see someone being an asshole, report it. If anyone ever says anything like "hey faggot get the fuck out and go kill yourself" or something along those lines I will probably flip out because the infection has spread to here. They will also be instantly banned. Anonymity doesn't have to = being an asshole, and the big boards like /a/ could easily control it if they wanted to, but boards like /a/ don't want to for some… unknown reason. They just don't give a crap I guess. I have never experienced more assholes anywhere on the internet than I have on chans, but to me the anonymity is worth it.

>>170
>Lesson learned though, never go to /a/.

Also, this^. I would never go to /a/ even if I wanted to discuss anime and manga (which I do want to be able to do at times, though mostly anime). It's a festering pit of the worst of chan culture, though not as bad as /b/ of course.

>Those that oppose it are called moralfags, as if having morality is some sort of insult.

It's pretty crazy, isn't it? Just to let everyone know, I'm a "moralfag". I actually care about others' feelings.

As an aside, I have perma saged this thread so that it doesn't get in the way of the board topics and the new threads being made.

I should clarify. I love dancing. It's a big part of what makes K-Pop K-Pop. However, when it comes to MVs, I like to see something a bit more extravagant than just dancing around. Maybe I'm just weird.

I also really like Block B's Very Good MV. It is… very good.:) It reminds me of Payday 2, which I love.

2NE1 is my favorite group. They are getting some radio play in the United States currently. I just made a thread on it.

I think that was the most vulgar Korean song I have ever heard. I loved every second of it. And just throwing this out there, that girl with the blue cap in the video is hot.

tfw there are no real Korean IPs on this board.
This board is dead. Korean web degenerates are too busy enjoying themselves on dcinside or 일베(ilbe) anyways.
At least the board volunteer tried. Cheers, from Gangnam.

Man, fuck you. Some of us actually try to contribute. We don't need korean web degenerates anyway, plenty of American Web degenerates available.
Is there even a reason why we need korean web degenerates
