I'm currently reading Magician by Kim Serae. The art starts out pretty lousy, but it turns in to an amazing manhwa. The worldbuilding is, in my opinion, probably one of the best in the manhwa industry. Unfortunately, translations for it are slow to be put out by volunteer groups and the official way of reading it on http://www.webtoons.com/episodeList?titleNo=70 is not the way to go at all for 2 reasons. #1 it is years behind where the manhwa actually is at and #2 the English translations are terrible. I mean absolutely terrible. I don't know who they hired to do them, but they suck hardcore. Volunteer groups do a much, much better job. Just search for Magician at any of your favorite scanlation sites and you'll find it.

Bumping this up because I'd like to see what others read as well as I am new to manhwa. I never really read any manga because I can't get into the whole no color thing.

I started to read it on Mangafox (not sure if I should link a scanlation site directly or not) and they are pretty behind, like you said. I'm not far though, so whatever, they have time to catch up. So far I'm enjoying it. I didn't expect it to have a time jump, but I think that is helpful. It was pretty much required actually, considering the young age of the characters when it starts out. Then again, I guess it could have just pulled a Pokemon.:)

I'll be honest… I have barely read any manga. I did it a tiny bit when I was younger, but that's it. The reason I've always been more of a manhwa fan comes down to one simple, but really important (to me) reason. Color. I want my comics to be colored.

Also, I think the way manhwa are released nowadays is way better than manga. All of the big manhwa (at least the ones that get translated) are either digital only or they are digital first and then only later do they release it in physical format. Digital has some great advantages, especially since I am always at my computer, and also the way you read digital manhwa (also called webtoons) is much nicer than flipping pages IMO. You read them just by scrolling down. And then there's the fact that some Korean manhwa are animated and/or have sounds, which is another reason digital is the best.

Sorry for the blog post. What can I say? I'm a huge Koreaboo. Pics related (the two Korean web portals that publish basically all of the big manhwa series).

Pshhhh, if you wanted to be a real badass, you would have posted using a North Korean flag.

I'm reading Noblesse as well and am loving it. Some people I know don't want to give it a chance because they are "over" vampires, because they are all over entertainment media. I love vampires though, and clichés don't really both me. The vampires in Noblesse are pretty different from traditional ones anyway. Also, Frankenstein is a badass. Just sayin'.

I think it's about time that we got some manhwa specific threads going. Like, I mean, threads devoted to a single manhwa entirely instead of us just recommending manhwa to each other. Some real in depth discussions, ya know? We could even start reading a manhwa together from the beginning and discuss it as we go. Or we could just assume that everyone is caught up on the manhwa in question and discuss everything about the manhwa from the very start of the thread. Idk, just throwing some ideas out there. Tell me what you guys think. I want to get some manhwa discussions going since apparently we aren't allowed to discuss manhwa at /a/ since manhwa is Korean and not Japanese. Not like the people there would really be interested in /Korea/boo stuff though anyway I guess, even if it were allowed. It's the battle of the fandoms!

Anyone read I Don't Want This Kind of Hero?

Do you think 9th Jangro has Dark Speareqsue weapon?

81c54d No.152

Yes, I think either of those are good ideas, but I wonder if there would actually be enough people here to even participate in such discussions.

>>132
Nope, but I will check it out.:) Maybe you could make a thread about it.

>>135

Manhwa is just the Korean word for comics, but it can also refer to Korean animation. Here in the West though, we use Manhwa just like we use Manga. By that I mean, in their respective languages, Manga and Manhwa simply mean comics, but we use them to mean comics from their respective countries specifically. Anyway, check out this link for more info.

I agree with the idea that we get some threads dedicated to a specific manhwa going. Anyone read The Gamer? I am going to make a thread dedicated to it in a few minutes.

I kind of get my fix through a mix of official translations and fan scanlations. Hey, that rhymed! Btw, more people will probably vote in that if you make a thread dedicated to it. I don't think anyone would mind, it is new content at least.
