Are esports really as popular in Korea as we in the West are led to believe, or is that just a popular misconception? We read about stadiums being filled in Korea during big tournaments like the recent LoL World Championship, but that also happens here in the US when there are big tournaments, and yet, the average person here doesn't give a crap about esports. Many don't even know that they exist. Is it the same way in Korea?

The popularity of esports in Korea is greatly exaggerated by many. Yes, esports are more popular in Korea than in say the US, and yes stadiums can be filled (just like in the US as you mentioned), but esports are not a "national pastime" like one article claimed recently that I won't even link because it would give them hits.
