If it goes into the gun, like in a Glock, it's a clip.
If it sticks out the bottom or side it's a magazine.

Clips are mostly used in older weapons.
A clip is pretty much a piece of metal with bullets attached to it.
Clips are put into the magazine. The magazine is fixed in those weapons.
eg: Mosin Nagant, C96 (which is a pistol), M1 Garand etc.
This is a very common beginner mistake.
