You exit your house, and your told to kill all hostiles only to kill hostiles. No orders are isssued about civilians, innocents, only other psychopaths with weapons. But they're there to stop you right? No can't be, there are people with rocket launchers, grenades, molotovs and the police the people supposed to stop you don't give a shit. This isn't natural, it's absurd, but what if your aren't supposed to kill the civilian population but save them!
Whatever prompted you to go on a murder spree, be it psychosis or some evil deity, might not be isolated to you. You are one of the few people to resist, whatever this is, and you goal is to take out everyone else infected by it, the game says kill hostiles, it doesn't stop you from killing civilians so it's assumed you are a psychopath and that's as deep as it goes.
But what if this isn't as deep as it go. What if it is only us the player that firebombs the parade. Kills people running out of the house. The game never tells us to do that, it only tells us kill the people with weapons. So is this some really deep social commentary on our nature as people, or am I just reading way too much into this?
The trend continues in Postal 2 as well, you can play through the entire game without killing a single person in the same way you can play through the entire game of postal not killing civilians or innocents. Food for thought.

I like to think of it like Hotline Miami, the entire point of which was to question the player on how they feel about all the pixelated murder, and to say that it's okay because it's not real - there's no actual violence being comitted. It's just drawn pixels. And you're having fun, aren't you?
I don't know though, I guess everyone walks away from it with something else. It's whatever you think it is, mate.
