I just copy most of my previous post.
I like laoshu a lot. He is very funny and inspiring.
I've probably watched all of his level-up videos whenever I felt discouraged.
But I have to admit that a lot of his videos are the same but I also watch them for the reactions which motivate me. He only has real conversations in Chinese, Somali and the few other languages he's fluent in.
Most of the time it's just:
-my nickname is laoshu
-I speak 50 languages
-I learn at home
-my wife is Taiwanese
-I have twins
-I'm a language teacher
-I have been to Taiwan
etc.
He also comes off a bit unprofessional at times but it seems like it's pretty hard to record videos with three crying kids in the house. The whole marketing for his learning method suffers a bit from Bennyism.
Well, I don't mind he's three kids and has to make a living somehow despite his very time-consuming passion. Compared to other polyglots he actually learns languages that are extremely difficult for native speakers of indo-European tongues which is impressive for a person who grew up in the projects and just left his home city for travelling a few times after learning the languages.
I also like Alexander Arguelles a lot. He's done some interesting videos on strategies and motivation concerning language learning.
But I'm not sure if his dream of becoming the Mr. Xavier of polyglotism wilm be reality one day.
Maybe he should relocate and try to get involved in initiatives of the EU that are supporting multilingualism…
