I remember reading that from a calligraphic analysis it was discovered that it was the work of more than one person, and it's been estimated that it took many years to finish it. I doubt it's a hoax. I think it's a real book written in a made-up language, perhaps to preserve and protect information that was considered dangerous in those days.
