Best place/way to learn Mandarin?

My favourite by far is chineasy. It's amazing but it doesn't teach you much vocabulary. It's more about language structure, etc.

Make your own or download one from the website. You can even include audio files and images. But don't add too many new cards each day, because your reviews will be in the hundreds after a while.

I'm using Assimil's books, combined with this site:

and occasional correspondence with a Chinese friend for help with my pronunciation.
