Interesting links and boards
A board dedicated to the world's best-known artificial language.
>>>/esperanto/

Rules
https://8chan.co/lang/rules.html

I think it should be enough with those but I'm open to suggestions and discussion (in this thread).

If you can provide the board with a translation of the rules in your native language or a language you're fluent in please post the translation in this thread.

Awesome. Thank you very much!

Just curious–would you like to link /esperanto/ and /lang/ together? I could put a /lang/ link somewhere near the top, though I can see how linking only to /esperanto/ on this board might look weird. At any rate it's to promote traffic between us.

 No.48

>>47
That's a good idea. I just don't know how to link to a board outside of a thread… Maybe a sticky with links to boards with a related subject matter?

 No.49

>>48
I think thats a great idea, a language that all of us could learn at the same time. So there could be threads where all of us are interested, you could call it the official board language.

 No.51

>>49
What about a monthly/bi-monthly language thread, where we vote one big/small language and try to learn it as a group?

 No.52

>>51
a new language every month or 2 sounds like way too much
I doubt many will be dedicated to it much or have time and you're not gonna learn much anyway
People that come here are already in the process of learning one

 No.53

>>52
Just to call attention to the board. Also it would be really basic stuff like numbers, alphabet, greetings and such.

 No.54

>>47
You can do it however you like. I think I may add it to my rules sticky or put it in the red text announcement.

>>53
That seems like a neat way to advertise. And then people who are more interested can continue studying the featured language, while the rest of us have just learned a few phrases.

yeah, I also think we need to bring some attention to it and I do like the idea of doing something as a group but idk about that. I just don't think many people would be interested in that, you know? Learning a few words in a new language every few weeks and then forget about it anyway (instead of just focusing on their language of choice). But hey, I don't want to spoil the fun for others and be a killjoy, just my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong though. I also want more people on this board

Knowledge is always good to have, even if it's for a couple of months. If someone gets interested in a language after said thread they could start studying on their own or with someone that also liked it.

 No.61

What if it was something like learning to read a new script, without necessarily learning the language? e.g. learn the russian alphabet, learn hangul

added /lang/ link to /esperanto/

 No.63

>>53
>>51
i think that's an excellent idea, we could even make hangouts and could find games in that language we could all play.
As for the hangouts, we could decide the days before said hangout, about some topics which we could split among the group. Every person would have to research about a subject they got, then they would talk about it in the hangout and like try to teach us about that subject they got.

So no Bi-monthly language thread?

 No.165

We'd need people that speak said language natively to start up the thread. Also a poll to decide which language are we doing. If anyone has a suggestion please reply.

Hmm, how about we start with german or esperanto? I mean, there seems to be a lot of germans on this board. As for esperanto, it seems like a good starting language, and there seems to be a lot of people here who speaks it.

 No.174

Nothing against the language itself, but there's already an /esperanto/ board with a somewhat large userbase, so I think we should focus in other languages instead.

German looks good; what about Spanish?

I'd really like to hear more opinions on this.
Can't the owner or some volunteer make a poll of this subject?

Just to see how many people is interested in this, and to know from where do we have native speakers.

 No.217

>>194

The english rules say tread instead of thread.

Will you accept my awful latin?
Regulae

 No.266

Do you mind if I correct your Latin a little bit?
Regulae
II. Potuisse scribere de et ab ulla lingua.

Retro-translation:
1. Threads must be in the topic; messages inside the thread can be out of the topic, but don't take on the whole thread with those/them.
2. You can write about and in any language.

is it just me or does the board switch to Polish sometimes?

 No.290

Hey theres an idea…we could switch the board language setting once a week

Although i guess that would potentially majorly discourage people from posting if they dont like that kind of thing…

 No.298

The normal word for "language" in Spanish is "idioma", not "lenguaje". That sounds weird… (Spanish is my first language, don't be fooled by the Canadian flag.)

>>266
Shouldn't it be potes scribere? And why did you choose "ab" and not something in the ablative for the next bit? I know "to say something in a language" usually uses something adverb-ish for "in a language" (latīnē, graecē, etc.), or otherwise the ablative (linguā latīnā). Then the second rule would be Potes scribere ulla lingua et de ulla lingua.

The words are synonyms and normal is relative to the place you live m8.

Just this exercise shows how difficult translation is. I thought I knew French well but had to look up words like "thread" and "post".

 No.330

>>328
Great translation. Only mistake I see is "n'importe quel langue" which should be "n'importe quelle langue".

 No.331

>>330
Thanks. I guess it always pays to revise grammar.

By the way, how would you say "on-topic" in French? I thought about "sur le sujet" or "dans le sujet" but it didn't sound as natural as "hors-sujet" (off-topic).

 No.346

>>331
I don't know. Both "sur le sujet" and "dans le sujet" don't sound natural, so I'd just use "hors-topic". Maybe "à propos" would work too in certain cases… I'd depend on the wording of the phrase.

 No.349

>>346
"hors-topic"? I have never heard that but using English words is generally frowned down over here (Québec).

 No.357

>>349
Shit, I meant "hors-sujet". I haven't actually seen "hors-topic" being used anywhere else than online. Yeah, it's frowned upon in France too, unless you're a researcher and have to communicate and exchange in English all the time. I had a foreign teacher this year and half the concepts were in English since they were so hard to translate. Same thing when you're a computer scientist (although you can sometime meet people who prefer using gallicized words).

This has been bothering me for a while… The picture should say "ciao mondo".

Here's a Norwegian translation, if you need one.

Regler:

Thanks, added.

Although these rules were written by the original owner, they're still valid. One problem with having them in multiple languages is that for every change, we'd also need the corresponding translation… he probably didn't think of that.
