Not too well. It's such a different language from English, unlike French or German, where there's some common vocabulary and grammar to work off of. I lose motivation for weeks at a time before picking it back up.

I'm okay I guess. Been memorizing hanzi with anki for 3 years.

I can read medium level texts with moderate ease (and a dictionary) I still need lots of practice if I want to read more complex but I'm not in a hurry.

I can't write and/or speak at all, but I want to conquer the hanzi reading wall first.

You'll just get bored of it and you won't have learned anything. Get a good book about Chinese grammar.
