Does anybody else here uses Anki or another SRS (spaced repetition system) to memorize vocab?

I found it to be extremely useful but dangerously addictive. It makes you believe you are learning a lot but memorizing is not the same than learning.

Of course memorizing words is necessary at some point, but it should be secondary to other methods of learning.

I started using Anki today and I can see why it's so popular, it's a very well made program. I think it's good for what it is, a supplement to make memorisation easier and faster.

You shouldn't add more than 10 cards per day. Otherwise you'll endup having to review hundreds in a very short time.

I think the best way to use it is to add words you already know (or learned in the day), you use the system to remember them.

I 'learned' 1000 Kanji with the Kanjidamage method and its Anki deck.
I only added 5-10 cards per day.

(I know many people think directly learning vocabulary is more efficient but I struggled a lot with getting a feeling for the Kanji and it helped me with identifying radicals and stuff. Already knowing the Kanji makes learning vocabulary much easier as well)

How many cards per day you have to review?
I'm reviewing around 300 per day and it takes me around 30 minutes to do so.

Also: you have no choice but to be disciplined with it.

You wont get anywhere with that attitude m8.
Sometimes you just have to just do it. No excuses.

What I do is mix reviewing time with fun time.
I review cards for let's say 15 minutes and after I watch a 20 minutes episode of some animu then 15 minutes more of reviewing and so on until I finish.
