What games do you guys play when you can't sleep?

*pic is neverwinter nights 2*

 No.1903

Horror games are fantastic at night. We aren't going to get much sleep anyway.

Yume Nikki is not really horror, but that is a night time favorite for me.

I do game at night. I just realized how much I have been doing it recently!

I'm fond of System Shock, though lately I have been playing games like AOE3 with a friend. Sadly I royally suck, so I just build lots and lots of walls while he defends them and amasses an army. My last game though, I managed to whip up my own army and do some damage myself. I felt really encouraged.

Our most fun game however, was strangely enough, when the AI brutally crushed us. I used every tactic possible to retreat while gathering resources, but alas, everything was razed to the ground. The whole time we were blasting some German music, relating to WWII. We aren't even /pol/,but being history buffs, it was hilarious. I was playing as the Germans, my friend the French. We ended up saying stuff like "The French are coming! The French are coming!" Heh. French-German alliance.

We were playing against the Turks and Indians, and so I said, "Shit, the kebabs are removing us!" The laughing afterwards probably considerably worsened our position though...

I keep on hearing about Yume Nikki. What's up with this game? Is it something like LSD?

If want to give Yume Nikki a try I have a nice pack with all of the compatibility fixes and most of the fan games which you grab from here.

>I keep on hearing about Yume Nikki. What's up with this game? Is it something like LSD?

Kinda, where as LSD is just a bunch of random wtf moments all strung together Yume Nikki is a bit more subdued in tone and feels a bit more like sifting though someone's past as there are a number of recurring themes in the various "worlds" you go to.

cosmology of kyoto is a great game for killing time at night.

I like playing aimless exploration games that I can just lose all sense of time wandering around in.

Yume Nikki is a nice example as others have said. Another one I've sunk hours at a time into is The Path, a kind of grim, fairy-tale inspired affair. I think it's neat how it lets you visit (more or less) the same world with multiple characters, who notice different details about it.

 No.2109

My usual late night games are Civilization. I start out at nine and before I know it it's midnight.

Just...one...more...turn...

Path huh? I'll check it out.

Personally I like Hearts of Iron.

Sunless Sea is my go to. Musics pretty great, it triggers my Thalassaphobia, and the Lovecraft can actually be pretty sublime in places.

8/10 would advocate pirating or purchasing.

i like a nice, rp heavy open-world game late at night, since it's when i can focus and be alone and get really into stuff. Borderlands 2 has been my go-to for a while (liked BL1 more but BL2 has more stuff), but FO: New Vegas has made quite an impression (never played it until a few days ago).

Damn, I still need to get around to playing this one. Bought it when it came out; sadly my computer's pretty old and Unity games run like shit on it.

Always loved the atmosphere of Fallen London though.

 No.2617

>>2613

If you've already bought it, fund out what you need to do to give your rig the muscles to play it. Its really nice and really picks up on some of the threads Fallen London leaves unwound

sort of contrary to the whole feel of this board, but i can find a way to make it fit (plus it's following the thread theme). Hotline Miami and HM2: Wrong Number are great late-night games. the fast pace, neon colors, and electro music wouldn't seem to fit late at night, but they give an odd burnt-out focus. the psychotic, disjointed, coked-up atmosphere of the games goes so well with the music and aesthetics that it just..... works? one of those things that can't really be explained until you experience it.

Dungeon crawlers, lately I've been playing Daggerfall. I like it but who ever designed these dungeons was a real sadist.

Just got me a copy of Super Mario Sunshine for Gamecube, hadn't played it in years and it's a nice little nostalgia trip.
