Have any of you thought about taking up photography? Time and time again I've thought about buying an expensive camera but I doubt i'd use it.
Apologies if any of these are reposts

It's been on my mind for a while but I've yet to take a single picture for some reason. I have a decent camera I could use too. I guess it's partly mostly because I'd feel really uncomfortable hanging outside with my camera thanks to my anxiety. I know it's stupid and it's something I really need to get over.
Got these from Dvach's photography board.

I'm a hobbyist photographer, but don't do it much on account of being a semi-professional artist. My advice is: do not worry about your gear so much and just take photos. The photography community can be (surprisingly) snobby about the mechanical quality of photos, but if you enjoy photography this should not bother you.
Granted, if you want to do and learn photography I still recommend a camera. Personally use RX100 and manage. If you enjoy yourself and are intend on growing get a more expensive, proper compact camera.
Keep in mind that there is a lot more to photography than merely the mechanical quality of a print. That should be your main focus - and a great photographer can make brilliant shots on both a professional and phone camera.
As for starting/usage: I just take a camera with me wherever I go and take a photo if I see something interesting. You'll have to grow as an artist and develop an artistic eye (a photography tutor even called it "the view"). Eventually you'll be amazed by how many interesting occurrences are all around you. After that it's a matter of honing your skills and becoming better and better at capturing the shot.
