 No.2490

Anyone else interested in doing a /late/ movie night for those of up who can't sleep and want to watch something comfy?

I've been hosting the /cyber/ anime night for awhile and now that i'm on summer i should have more time to host group activities.

go for it.

 No.2502

sounds like a great idea. how would we do it though? is there a streaming site or something similar to twitch for movies?

 No.2505

>>2502

We used to use rabb.it.

 No.2509

>>2505

how does it work? does it like, stream stuff playing on a host's screen?

 No.2510

>>2509

It gives you access to a system somewhere in the world, and you can manipulate what is on it's screen as you would any normal computer. It is a lot easier to understand by trying it.

 No.2516

>>2510

sounds pretty cool. should we go ahead and just start planning the first one in this thread? then maybe BO could make one of those permanent top threads about it where we can put the info of later ones

 No.2517

>>2516

BO here

Go ahead, go ahead, by all means.

I'd definitely join. But how are we going to decide when the stream is? I don't think we're all in the same timezone.

 No.2520

>>2518

We will find a time when most anons are online.

 No.2530

>>2520

i guess just start posting times/timezones and we'll figure out a good time. this might be easier over skype though, if anyone's interested

anyway, i'm in American Central Standard Time, it's about 11:45 pm

get to posting anons

 No.2533

>>2532

Sorry, I mean GMT+3 as it's daylight saving or w/e.

 No.2534

>>2533

the fact that this is a night owl/ little-sleep board is gonna help a lot since most anons can and will just happen to be up whenever

 No.2539

>>2530

Do we have to use Skype though? Can't we use something like TOX, or just communicate on rabb.it?

 No.2540

>>2539

of course, there's no reason not to, i've just never used them (or even heard of them until recently). it'd take some figuring out, but as long as they don't fuck up my computer that'd be great. anyone up for getting me started with those?

 No.2542

>>2539

BO here. If you want to contact me, you can almost always get to me via TOX.

My ID is A4D65BE8AFE6E367F70186B670CD151F2DAC8F79D407FB92EA4294816D356A5DC7CA38BFAC44

I'm (almost) always up for a chat.

As per to communicating in rabb.it, I'm totally cool with that, it would be easy too.

 No.2543

>>2540

Hi, BO again. I'll link you the version I recommend in a sec.

 No.2544

https://wiki.tox.im/Binaries#Windows

Grab Qtox. If you have any problems, post, I'll help.

 No.2546

got it installed and everything correctly, i think. is the username it asks you to put in different than the ID?

 No.2549

>>2546

There should be a plus or add function.

 No.2618

Op here, you guys interested in watching Eraserhead tomorrow night?

 No.2619

>>2618

How many hours from now?

 No.2620

>>2618

Sure, but it kind of depends on >>2619

 No.2622

>>2620

Sure I'm interested.

 No.2623

>>2618

what is it? it sounds cool, and if other anons are up for it then sure, but what's it about?

 No.2624

>>2619

yeah, i think we should just have movies be a set number of hours after their announcement post. that should eliminate a ton of fooling around with timezone conversions

 No.2627

File: 1434867840863.png (85.94 KB, 211x212, 211:212, 8a1fefddbd7b7a49e3c0ee2260….png)

Alright, so the plan is to watch Eraserhead in about 10-12 hours (tomorrow night). If that isn't going to work out for you, we might be able to change it up a bit.

The way we're going to watch movies is a site called rabb.it that allows you to access a site-supplied computer that other people can spectate. You'll just have to see it in action to really get it.

Here's a link to the room we'll be using for movies (probably):

https://rabb.it/late

You'll have to make an account, but they're pretty simple. It only needs a username, email, and password.

 No.2629

OP back again

How's exactly 12 hours from now sound?

 No.2630

>>2629

Perfect.

 No.2636

>>2629

should be any minute now.

rabb.it room is still locked though...

 No.2637

Anons, it looks like the first official movie night may be failing. The time we had said has passed. BUT, I may have come up with a solution. Here's the link to the new room.

https://rabb.it/Hyde_

However, if nobody joins within an hour, I'm shutting it down. The room should be unlocked, so anyone can join. We can continue with Eraserhead, or we can come up with a new one once several people are in the room. See you at rabb.it /late/!

 No.2638

>>2637

It's a shame but I don't think we're active enough for this kind of thing.

 No.2639

>>2638

yeah, only two people actually got on. it was still really fun though, the two that came were cool and there were no problems with the stream or anything. maybe if we start doing stuff like this more regularly it'll attract a bit more traffic. even if it doesn't, it can still just be a fun little thing for anyone who happens to be on.

 No.2640

>>2637

BO here.

I have some apologies to make. I couldn't get there. My computer was simply not working. I am very very sorry, especially about the locked room.

Next time, lets put up an announcement a week or so in advance so that enough anons can come for some fun.

>>2639

I'm really happy you guys had fun though. I'll try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

 No.2643

>>2640

No problem, computer issues screw over all of us sometimes. And yeah, having the announcement up at least a few days in advance would probably work best.

I had fun hosting it, so i might just start hosting it myself. or we can just have my rabb.it room as a backup in case you can't be there. either way, we'll definitely be doing something again next weekend.

on that note, any ideas? I know of a movie I think /late/ would like called Ink. or INK depending on how you read it, but still.

 No.2652

>>2643

Thanks.

I haven't heard of INK, but from the looks of it, it would be good. If you want to do this on the weekend though, I suggest you open a thread and we can discuss what we do that movie night.

Or wait, I have an idea. Want to do a weekly or biweekly movie night and have a pinned cycling thread for the movie and discussion?

feedback would be great.

Thank you to all you wonderful sleepy anons that make /late/ such a nice corner of the internet!

 No.2658

>>2652

I thought that was what this thread was. A place to plan the movie nights, decide which movie to watch, and discuss how the night went. it was pinned too, last time i checked.

but yeah, if we'd like, we can put up another one specifically for that.

as for weekly vs biweekly (by the way, did you mean twice a week or every two weeks?), i think weekly would be best, but biweekly could work.

once every two weeks would be quite slow, although it may work better for anons who prefer events to be rarer, and it would make them more special in a way. the only con would be the very reason for the pros: it's infrequent, and that means less events with longer intervals between.

twice a week on the other hand would be a bit extreme and would require quite a bit more effort from me, the BO, and any other potential coordinators. although, it would mean getting to see more movies new to some of us more frequently, as well as potentially forming a more tight-knit community and more organized board. but, once again, the cons are for the same reasons as the pros. it would be extremely frequent for an online imageboard event, especially a small board like /late/, and a lot of anons may end up missing them because of work or school or something.

i think having them on a weekly basis would be best, since they're still infrequent enough to not require constant attention from the coordinators and not be so infrequent that people lose interest, while remaining infrequent enough to still seem eventful and frequent enough to have a steady flow of content.

I'd love to hear you guys' arguments on weekly vs biweekly and to just see what the general community wants. It's so great to see anons taking an interest in these movie nights, i hope to see more of you at the next one.

I INVITE ANY ANON WHO SCROLLS PAST THIS POST TO GIVE INPUT.

 No.2659

>>2658

My mistake. instead of biweekly, I meant every two weeks. Once a week sounds good to me. A tight knit community would be nice too... Anyway, once a week at a regular time means we can always tune in at that time and enjoy a movie together. Less planning, more discussing what to watch, etc.

 No.2660

I vote for once every two weeks

 No.2723

File: 1435856641912.webm (4.16 MB, 1920x1080, 16:9, Oslo august 31.webm)

Oslo, august 31. Can we please watch that movie? It's fucking great.

 No.2736

Right, so, we can probably organize another movie night for either the night of the 4th or 5th. I may not be available tomorrow night, so if we need to, we can move it back to the 10th or 11th. The BO hasn't been on qTOX in days, so I guess I'm in charge of the movie nights now.

>>2723

The trailer looks awesome, definitely on the list. If we're gonna do one movie night every two weeks, we could have each be a double-feature.

What do you think night owls? A double-feature movie night every other weekend? The next one would be showing Oslo, August 31 and INK

 No.2775

OP here again, you guys up for a movie sunday?

 No.2795

>>2775

definitely. as in sunday night night (pm) or sunday morning night (am)?

also, i still wanna know what you lot think about the double-feature idea

 No.2796

>>2795

I think its a great idea

and its sucks no one else is down for a movie tonight

 No.2896

File: 1438037222640.gif (221.36 KB, 500x364, 125:91, dadbert.gif)

I wonder if we can actually organize another one successfully.

How does another movie night (maybe even a double-feature) 5 days from now? I'll post the exact time on that day, whether anyone confirms/denies or not.

The movies we'd be watching would most likely be 'Oslo, August 31' and 'Ink' but I'm open to other suggestions.

Hopefully some of you anons can come!

 No.2914

Unpinned, in hopes of people seeing it better and replying more often.

Alright anons, it may not work, I may not see anyone in the rabb.it room, but i'll keep it open for a good few hours.

I'm going to open the rabb.it room about 8 hours after posting this, so that should give some anons enough time to see it and decide. The movies I'll have up are in the last post.

Hope to see some of you there!

 No.3116

Hey anyone down for a movie tonight at 6am UTC?

 No.3124

 No.3147
