When you're not fighting off either horrifying mutants or douchy factions, the stalker life can be fairly comfy.

Just imagine, a few stalkers sitting around a fire, all putting aside the paranoid caution needed to survive in the Zone to take refuge from the danger of nighttime, trading stories of their time there, at least one is bound to have a guitar.

Have some vodka, sausage, bread, maybe a can of beans if somebody has one. sounds comfy as hell to me.

so tell me, would you go into the Zone for moments like these, despite the not-so-comfy getting shot at moments horrifying mutants?

i honestly would and i'd go for the shooting/getting shot at/horrible mutant hunting too but that's beside the point

well it was a book to begin with, called Roadside Picnic. the movie was made about 7 years later, and the first game about thirty years later.

interestingly, both the book AND the movie were published before the event which causes the Zone and anomalies in the games (the Chernobyl accident)

sadly i don't have the funds to go to Ukraine or the connections to find other stalkers.

it would be quite a bit different though. there would be some important things missing, but it would still be amazing.

Homelessness isn't entirely far apart from the stalker life.

Every encounter can turn violent at any time. Sharing what little you have and taking refuge in whatever little comforts are available to you as the weary way of life wears you down.

Of course you don't have the brotherhood live fire brings, but there is a sense of camaraderie in those short moments when you meet someone who isn't completely insane or trying to rob you. It's a lot like talking to strangers in Haven and Hearth, actually.

Stalker is a lot more comfy though, probably has a lot to with the lack of a moisture system I suppose.

The STALKER life is very comfy when it boils to those small moments after a long day of survival. It's like a pseudo-asceticism.
