Just wanted to emphasize video games that are the epitome of /late/ and/or suitable for late night playing...

My preference would be for 2010's xbox 360's Alan Wake: Separated between a daytime/night-time cycle of reality and horror the player is forced to use a flash-light to combat enemies. Under rustling pine trees in the dead of night you will battle beings formed of darkness.

Other contenders would be:

* Fragile Dreams: Farewell ruins of the moon, wii, 2009. Everything in this game is bathed in the soft diffuse light of the moon. Has a painterly feel to it.

Resident Evil: Revelations, multi-plat, 2012. The main segments on the Queen Zenobia are a tense creaking slow shuffle in the middle of the night.

What does everybody else think? Any suggestions?

Obligatory Stalker post.

I used to play the very poorly translated buggy online version late at nights with /k/ and it was pretty damn comfy. Shame my laptop can't seem to run it anymore.

Yes, I completely agree.

SZone is great even with how broken it is. If we have enough stalkers in /late/ I'd love to form a group to play it. I haven't played in quite a while.

>Sunless Sea

>Matches that mix of cozy and mysterious that /late/nights have

>Game you can easily autopilot on, running familiar trade routes and grinding for echoes

>You can also get adventurous and push out into unexplored waters, for when you feel like mixing things up more

>Setting has a dash of Lovecraftian, and something that I can't quite describe

>Music feels fucking great

PC exclusive, 2015, lots of dark seas, lots of reading, but you can go on autopilot if you're just grinding a familiar trade route.

Exploration focused/metroidvania-style games can be pretty comfy at night (pic related). Wouldn't mind some recommendations if anyone knows good ones.

also there was a similar thread to this (>>>1823) active a few months ago

Neverwinter Nights 2, warlords battlecry 3, and mount and blade always gave me a nice feeling late into the nights

Has anyone here played the LiEat Trilogy?

I think you guys would enjoy it.

Pid kind of relates to this topic. About half of the levels are dark and the other half are bright, but the soft lighting and soundtrack ensure that the whole game is comfy. It's short and would probably take 6 hours at the most, but it's only 10 bucks.

Thanks for the recommendation anon, just downloaded it and will try it when I wake up tomorrow.

Sorry, brah, couldn't find it in the catalogue....Also presumably after a certain amount of time it would be merely bumping a necro-thread, yeah?

Would also have to mention Dishonored. Cosy as fuck, lots of night time/evening levels, steampunk with a stealth option means lots of creeping around a decrepit

Deus ex: Human revolution also feels like a /late/ game. The sleekness plasticity of cyberpunk works quite well. The feeling is of rain hitting asphalt.

For me it's always been Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The dimly lit cockpit, the whir of the engines, the ATC calls, it's always been extremely cozy for me. The best ever is to be running a long flight from New York to London in the background while doing something else.

God if it wasn't already 1 in the morning I'd start one right now.

Yeah, I can see how that could work. floating above the earth. I guess for us latists the sense of solitude is the over-arching desire we search for.

Everything about limbo is quite dreamy and gloomy. Would def play in /late/ time instead of at the day

Time passes really slow in Stalker, so daytime lasts like a hundred years but when it finally becomes night time everything becomes so much scarier. It makes it so comfy to be sad around a campfire at night with some fellow Stalkers

Is it worthwhile getting any of the Stalker series on steam for a mid-range laptop?

It looks really cosy and /late/ af.

Be sure to check the specs on steam. Although I'm not the person you asked, I can recommend it. It will take some getting used to, but if it hits home for you it is a unique and very satisfying experience.

Play through S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl first. It introduces you to the series, tone, difficulty and story - and is a good game in its own right. Afterwards go to Call of Pripyat, which I personally think is the best in the series and gets close like you're actually in the Zone.

You can safely skip Clear Sky. It is something of a black sheep, though it has some nice set pieces and arguably the most cohesive plot of the series.

If you do want more, but don't want to mess with Clear Sky, there are a ton of great mods for Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat. I can personally recommend Lost Alpha for Shadow of Chernobyl, which adds removed content back into the game, rewrites the storyline, adds a ton of locations and balances gunplay.

For Call of Pripyat keep an eye out for Call of Chernobyl, which adds the areas from the previous games (Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky) to the game world. Although there is no additional content (no storyline) to these areas, they're fantastic for just strolling around and cheeki breeki'ing.

Fair warning that, with the cancellation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the series is considered in limbo. After Shadow of Chernobyl a big part of the team left to make Metro 2033. The remainder left after the publisher hogged the rights to the franchise. They're currently working a spiritual squeal to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. known as Survarium, an mmo fps.

All in all, I personally consider the series to be pretty /late/-core.

 No.4052

I'd also say VTM:B is a pretty /late/ game.

Old game. Easy on the specs. Just get the "unofficial" patch and it'll play.

Fun game.

Don't open it.

Cool, tried to jig it up on steam, previously. I always liked the lore of the various factions. Just finished reading Dracula so a good mix.
