/late/, do you ever credit your insomnia (or just stubbornness to not sleep) for some of your best ideas? People have said that resting helps you to have a clear mind, but I've felt as if whenever I stay awake I have the best thoughts. Especially the later it gets, in the complete darkness in a cool temperature room.

My lack of sleep is credited to my constant need to think on thing, so yes it gives me the best ideas. The only issues I have is that I can never get theses idea into reality because of my shitty sleep schedule and lack of motivation. In the end it just because one of those "I have all these great ideas, why am I going nowhere." situations.

You could always supplement a proper nocturnal sleep cycle and some motivation.
Melatonin before bed (Especially if it's daytime) to regulate that, a stimulant such as caffeine to keep you active, and theanine to relax you on that stimulant to get rid of the wired feeling so you can think straight.

Motivation is a lot tougher though. There are some substances to help, but it's mostly habitual.

sometimes when I'm lying in bed, I'll get a cool beat stuck in my head, or wax philosophical

I've heard that procrastination is not caused by laziness, but the fear of failing whatever you set out to do
disipline is also a part of it too

I am in bed trying to sleep, and then I have a really interesting thought, and I know that if I don't write it down I will forget it.

The rest of the time I just feel a strong urge to go to the bathroom just as I am getting comfortable.

Funny you should ask. Try as I might I can't remember. They might not actually be as brilliant as I thought. After all, this happens when I am half asleep.
