relaxing places thread

went to alaska once

How was it? I've always wanted to visit, but I have a feeling my hatred of cold would ruin any potential good time.

That picture was taken in the summer. It's about 60F there 70 on an especially warm day. Wouldn't want to be around in the winter, and its spooky as fuck because you take really shitty planes most everywhere but once youre there it's not bad.

It depends where you go, too. Central and Eastern Alaska can get fairly warm in summer. That's the only season I've been there, though. The state's as big as the rest of the country, so there's a lot of undisturbed land, if you're into that. I liked riding the ferries in Southeast; never got to any of the places you have to fly into. I'd recommend going, but be prepared for hordes of mosquitos depending on where.

One of the comfiest places I've been is Ice Lake, in the San Juans.

Those colors almost seem unnaturally vibrant. Can't get over how blue that water is.

It's all the silt in suspension scattering light. The same thing happens in some of the pools at Yellowstone and in a lot of glacial lakes.

This is Lake Louise, in Canada. It was a little too crowded for my taste when I went, and camping is way too expensive there. I like America for all the open, accessible country.

Angelus hut in Nelson Lakes, New Zealand.

The hut's built out in the middle of a lake inside a crater up in a mountain. Bit of a hike to get in, but holy fuck.

Not a breath of wind, perfectly quiet except for the sounds of the random guys you met in the hut playing cards with the mates you came in with. It's getting slightly chilly, but you're going to stay out and enjoy it for a bit before going inside and joining in.

Up on the track in, you see a group of trampers coming in. This is a problem since the hut's full. Or not, since they get here and promptly decide to sleep out on the deck (see pics my bros uploaded later).

Best tramping hut I've been to, one of the best tramps I've been out on hands down.

A long time ago I went to white sands missile range in southern US to watch a hot air balloon race as the sun rose, was pretty amazing.

How was your trip to Japan, Anon? I definitely want to go there within a few years. Did you find the spot in the picture, or anyplace particularly comfy?

Does anyone else have a comfy place Japan they would recommend?

>The state's as big as the rest of the country
Although it's big, it's not nearly that big. It's more than a fifth the size of the rest, though.
