Welcome to the /learn/ network!

Here's an introduction:

I have just recently noticed that I have really dumbed myself down and held myself back due to the following and you may have as well:

(1) The "Autistic" meme. - Decreases motivation/dedication
(2) Hide your power-level - Stops you from meeting people like you but is up to you ultimately…
(3) Fedora - Also apparently implies that if you seem like intellectually stimulating things you are totally a reject of society that no one likes.
(4) The way everyone ignores someone they can't understand or feels challenged by.

I've been so petrified by these circumstances that I've stopped all or any effort to improve myself.

I understand that you will say things like: "Suck it up and just do what you want" or "reddit-tier/Halfchan BS" - but you are the community that I discuss various subjects with daily and I want you all to seek your full potential as well.

Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

Book thread?

I've only started to read intensively recently. Currently in the middle of Brothers Karamazov. Finding it very difficult to get through, but interesting nonetheless.

I'm also reading Introduction to Functional Calculus through Lambda Calculus. I've been doing functional programming for a while, but never tackled the theory.

I have been working on my collection of books I want to learn from. I just started getting into self-learning. I'm going to mainly focus on STEM, some social stuff, and business. I'm currently redoing all of mathematics from algebra - calculus to get a super-firm basis and clear up anything I might be fuzzy on. I know I have a long way but you got to start somewhere!

>I've been doing functional programming for a while

What have you been using as a language OP? Haskell? Lua?

Clojure and Scheme for functional languages.

For imperative programming, I'm competent in Python and C.

Between these, I can cover pretty much any base- systems programming, one-off scripting, and lots of libraries (Clojure/Java interop is really nice. You get the ecosystem without having to use the language.)

Looking to learn Rust.

This is why you take the internet, especially imageboards with a heavy dose of salt

Good luck, friend

I agree with you on the autism meme. Not so much on the fedora meme, though; it only really applies to neckbeards who try to act in a manner that they imagine is gentlemanly.

You said you regret taking noots? Why? And how are you currently working to increase your intelligence?

>Not so much on the fedora meme

I guess I was mistaken, I'll cross that out of the introduction.

>You said you regret taking noots? Why?

I felt as thought it took a toll on my brain and general function of my body. I wasn't as coordinated and there was an addiction starting to rise. Some scary stuff but eh, if you want to venture into the world of noots, go ahead. I just don't like the idea of potentially fucking up your mind when with a bit of effort you could do much more and exactly what you want. In high school I could stay up for 32 hours and not feel that different.

>How are you currently working to increase your intelligence

I'm attempting to "abuse" the recovery method for different patients with brain damage in a way. You've probably heard of the term neuroplasticity, correct? In theory, your brain is capable of anything you put it to. So by practicing what you want to achieve with your brain, you can achieve it. I am starting to start mastering the "M" in STEM right now and while I do that I will gradually increase my study time that will obviously increase my focus and motivation immensely. I imagine it's like working out though, so a 3:1 ratio of hours every day is probably better than working yourself to death at a constant rate. Oh, and sleeping and eating fat/saturated fat is good too if you're still under 21 or 22 while you're still developing a fair bit.

Extra thought:
I also believe that most people on here get an excessive dose of dopamine due to looking at images and fapping and that is detrimental to you focus and motivation. That's what probably led me to noots; lack of self-discipline and overdose of dopeamine.
There's occult/taoist stuff on it as well but that's a whole different story with the holographic universe and all…
