Please explain this woman to me: Heard her for the first time on a recent episode of Chapo Trap House (new listener) and she seemed pretty run of the mill until she said something about women needing to be removed from positions of power in order to make America socialist. Everyone seemed to be in agreement with her, but they also don't seem like progressive Christian/"pro-life liberals". What is the intersection of "dirtbag" socialism and whatever this broad believes?

That's what irony is.

Chapo is great, but Cum Town is better. People bitching about podcasts here are weird twitter ☭TANKIE☭s.

She's basically a boring succdem but because she's Catholic (and actually follows her religion) she triggers other boring succdems. Like she doesn't even want to ban abortion, she just says she personally thinks it's bad, and that's still enough to make Democrat Cops of America types seethe.

>dirtbag left

this is just a way of adressing how frustrated they are with how mainstream liberals and socdems feel that they need to address war criminals and bourgies who profit off of human suffering in respectable and polite language, while the hosts (and other assorted twitter lefties) see no problem calling them what they are, not buying into the concept that if you swear or something, than it makes your opponents right

its irony. how do you not pick up on that when we're descendants of the same somethingawful style irony

Since I couldn't find the Cockshott thread I am now creating a new thread to discuss direct-democracy, cybernetic planning and various assorted socialist ideas for the 21st century.

I also found it important to read the frenchisestitle anglos and germans afterwards (Reading Capital, Companion to Capital and Critique of Political Economy).

good supplementary reading

>David Harvey

why the fuck even post that shit in a Cockshott thread?

Not that other guy, but I was gonna buy "Companion to Capital". Seeing that link now makes me question if I should, anyone else read david harvey? Is he alright outside apparently somehow thinking marx didn't use / agree with the LTOV?

If you want a companion book to guide you, I’d highly recommend Karl Kautsky’s The Economic Doctrines of Karl Marx (you can find it on marxists.org for free). Kautsky’s book was used as an introductory book on Marxist economics in the Soviet Union into the early 1930’s. It’s more important to get through Capital Volume 1 into the following three capitals then it is to spend a long time simply on 1.

I really question the need of reading guides for Capital. Vol 1 is very well written and pedagogical. If you have questions about what you're reading, you can usually google stuff or ask in a thread like this one.

2. How can a communist revolution be brought about?

You should check out the /leftypol/ reading list. There is even a beginning section that explains the basics and answers those 3 questions you have in detail >>2300211

1. basically everything, because the magic of the market isn't what produces shit; people create shit, and communism puts the workers who actually do shit at the center of its program. we don't need a class of capitalist owners siphoning off profit so they can do nothing, much less do we need to work under the threat of starvation just so they feel better about themselves. it's stupid, it's vain, and it's pointless.

2. i'm not convinced that there will be a revolution to overthrow capitalism, or that utopian communism is the next step. we could totally do a planned economy right now if we wanted to, the forces of production are strong enough that it becomes obvious capitalist incentives and competition are hinderances rather than a help in the 21st century. unfortunately, the currents of progression have been almost uniformly against egalitarianism and against the masses' very existence, and for elitism and the vanity of the middle and upper classes. this stems from the military and computer technologies which allowed national security states to exist. i don't see any sort of "revolution" that isn't carried out by substantial defections among the ruling class, the liberal noble analogues of the 21st century that are willing to buck the system that made them rich and argue on the basis of their merit for a different system with themselves in high positions. maybe it can happen, but i don't think the national security states are going anywhere, and the people inhabiting those bureaucracies like power.

3. define what you mean by "work". if you are talking about the goals of a society where the vast majority of people get to actually live and enjoy life, then communism is the obvious goal. every other ideology going today necessarily implies the rule of a select few and a grotesquely hierarchical society that does stupid shit to uphold order, without any compelling reason why we have to go along with it. the rule of some property owners, or banks, or a race of the chosen, is unnecessary and stupid.

if you're asking whether a centrally planned economy can work on a practical level, then yes, we could implement such an economy right now if we wanted to, and in practice even the capitalist powers have bowed to central planning in their practical ecPost too long. Not necessarily, and even if some corporation would attack a corporation via the protest movement, it'll still do some damage. And would usher the attacked corp to support protests against the one that'd do the attack.

And many people just do things to feel good about themselves, a corporation isn't psyopping them. They're just into psyopping themselves.

Witout a selfith idustry for building GPUs, Cpus, and chips, we cannot make the hardware, and the software is half made it (open sourse and free software system like freeBSD or GNU/Linux already used in the public administration), so, I don't see how the efford in this can be driven for our revolution, those theories only work in a industralizen country without sactions.

>Witout a selfith idustry for building GPUs, Cpus, and chips, we cannot make the hardware,

The planning algorithms can run on a desktop computer or a modern cell phone. The data can be stored on a modest server, for an economy Cuba's size. The data can be entered through computers in workplaces or public access, gradually if needed.

>the software is half made it

You should get in touch with some smart programmer friends or students. Since Cockshott has put his algorithm out there (not the only one that could work, but a good example), the rest of the implementation is trivial. A team of five or ten could very quickly put together a working system.

>those theories only work in a industralizen country without sactions.

Sanctions give all the more reason to use resources most efficiently. The whole purpose of Kantorivich's method, and the modern estimation technique that Cockshott is proposing.

>oil and fuel

Isn't North Korea's biggest industry mining, especially in coal? How can they not be self-sufficient in oil and fuel?

DPRK has a lot of coal but they don't have any oil or gas to extract.

They are carrying out and developing coal liquefaction and gasification to some extent though.

He attk

>Free town christiania

Literally just a tourist trap filled with hippies. You can't introduce a planned economy in a neighbourhood.

Well, last Latino that tried got killed.

Cockshott has done talks in vietnam and China i believe. Neither are interested in leaving a market economy and in pretty sure China even threatened to ban him from the country. He worked with maduro to translate TaNS into Spanish. Obviously Venezuela isnt in any position to pursue cockshotts ideas at the moment but he has spoke on steps to take in the right direction for them so maybe once they stabalise that could be a thing. Bolivia may be a possibility as well, but I doubt it at this point. I think the strongest contender would be Cuba. It would take a lot of work and they would have to plan it out over 20 years or so but it would probably be the most exciting thing for socialism in a long time. They would have to start integrating payment cards all over the country, organizing a system of upc's for everytging in the economy, further developing their computing industry etc. As some first steps they could tie their currency to labor values as start printing labor values on notes alongside the actual amount of currency, eventually move to only labor values and make them only available on card, make them non transferable, mandate pay at 1 labor token to 1 hour work and start rolling out the planned economy. It would be a huge undertaking but also a gigantic step forward and example for all other socialist states.

I don't find it so strange for Trump to say this. He's obviously seen how North Korea has modern and developed infrastructure for a country so isolated. He knows the potential it has to grow if sanctions are scrapped.

What would be the "proper" leftist take on taxation? Is it entirely possible to be a socialist and also be against taxes, for the most part? I feel like that would really help dispel the whole "commies want to take away my paycheck" nonsense libertarians and conservatives spout.

17 posts and 3 image replies omitted. Click reply to view.

it would be a good angle for propaganda

that's impossible, right lolbertarians have no interest in taxation beyond complaining about it.

>Do not pay the workers the money that belongs to the state, so directly tax the workplaces instead.

They do that already. It's called taxes.

The meaning of taxes would be very different. Income tax would not need to exist in the same way because money is taken before income. The varieties of taxes result from having to take money from capitalism. The funds would simply be collected through an analogue to profit

>I've heard that the same is happening with hispanic imageboards.

I can confirm. Part of what made me curious (or at least not completely hostile) about left wing politics in my teen years was how endemic self-professed anarchists were to spanish-speaking online communities during the 00's.

Our warez especially scene was chock full of people with leftist symbols as avatars, signatures and handles, handing out e-gibs to the less fortunate.

Nowadays there's nothing on the hispanic online space that isn't a cynical replica of the anglosphere, I mainly use english sites nowadays since the content is almost the same.
