OP here. My propblem with this isn´t that people decide to take antidepressants.I didnt mean to say that mental health isnt a class issue.

The point I was trying to make was, that this scene uses the idears of (self)acceptance and avereness. Just telling people that taking a certain type of med isnt something you should be ashaimed of while informing about some of the side effects is a good thing. But it does more than that it basicly indirectly states that "everybody" is depressed, and that simply taking a happy pill is the the best way to cope with this. With this, distracting yourself from your despairfull state caused by the alienating nature of society, masking over the symtom instead of curing the disease (both figuratively and literrally) is justified and declared as effective solution. A soliution which can be bought as commodity. And their names are sund loundly and proudly throughout the clip. That is the idpol in it. Escape from suffering is ownly portrait as temporary, this hopelessness is shown as a blissfull thing. And no >>2814438 that black woman has nothing to do with this.

I was used to be suicidyl and depressed btw, and tbh antidepressants actually helped me, they prevented me from harming me. But they are a short/midtrem solution. You need therapie and you need to fix your life.

Considering how close we are to /pol/ and how often we encounter them, let's have a thread where we analyse, deconstruct and debate the mechanisms of Alt-Right and fascist rhetorics and help each other counter their techniques.

I, myself, have began to notice something I'd like to call "the right wing riposte"

Essentially, whenever an argument is made against a right-winger, they say something that is meant to turn a defense into a counter attack. A right winger will never defend their positions with well-researched facts, they will only say what they think will make them win the argument. Therefore, a rightwinger can espouse contradictory views at different points without suffering from any kind of mental dissonance.

A good example would be their defence for whenever someone shuts someone down for being overtly or explicitly racist.

"So much for the tolerant left" or "I thought leftists cared about freedom of speech", is a counter we've all heard many times, I'd bet and the technique is sort of Genius; instead of the debate being about the overt bighotry of the one being shut down, the debate is instead being turned into a discussion where the intial accuser must defend themselves from seeming like hipocrites or intolerants themselves, not because right.wingers actually care about biggotry or even free speech, but simply because right-wingers understand that controling the conversation is what will make them win everytime.

Thus, many discussions with duch individuals are simply turned into shouting-matches where the merits of the original argument is never even adressed. The right wing shut down argument, because right-wing ideology is not fundementarily about any kind of ideological esence or any real standpoint, it is most about in-group mentality and aesthetics.

What are some other right-wing rhetorics that you guys have noticed online?

What I consider to be the most autistic is the right's definition of race/ehnicity. Like.

If you want to segregate people by their race, then how do you exactly determine their race? The human genome has many genes responsible for physical appearance. How do you check if someone is Balkan, Afroamerican, or mixed-race?

I have not been answered yet, btw.

So I'm a bong and I'm planning to write a manifesto for the reorganisation of the org "Momentum" and I wanted to ask people what techniques both for internal organisation and direct action works well? Mostly trying to gather info so I can incorporate elements.

A few examples is like the D.S.A. doing the brake light fixing thing to stop black people getting pulled-over by cops, DiEM25's "thematic" organising collectives, and shit like that. Cheers lads.

Do you mean the IWGB? They engage in sectoral strikes (Which is pretty uncommon in the UK) in precarious jobs; like precarious cab & delivery drivers, and in employer based action (Like the Boycott Senate House campaign) where not only will they have staff of multiple kinds strike (It is difficult to do this in the UK*) but also actions like calling for boycotts of the facilities to force management to change tac. They are pretty bleeding militant but currently have no real links with the Labour party or much of the rest of the left tbh (perhaps to their strength but still). One of the things I want Momentum to adopt is the D.S.A. style labour working group which specifically organises branches and people to helping with industrial action. It is those kind of ideas that I want to draw in from foreign orgs.

I'd personally go to try to move Labour, and the IWGB closer while implementing the general strike tactic. With what seems to be the considerable amount of influence you have it would just be easier than trying to change a whole org, and allows you to apply nn sectarian ideas to the IWGB

There's been a lot of talk lately of upping taxes for America's highest earners. But Bill Gates thinks there's a "misfocus" on how the US government taxes the wealthiest residents, he said during a recent podcast interview with The Verge's Nilay Patel."In terms of revenue collection, you wouldn't want to just focus on the ordinary income rate, because people who are wealthy have a rounding error of ordinary income," said Gates, who's worth about $96 billion.Gates said America's wealthiest people have complicated financial situations that the US tax system doesn't recognize.

The international upsurge of working class struggle in 2019

The first weeks of 2019 have been marked by a dramatic upsurge in the international class struggle. Workers’ strikes and protests have broken out in virtually every region of the world. After decades in which the class struggle has been suppressed by the trade unions, the working class, the stirring giant of world politics, is beginning to find its feet.

Ilhan Omar should be more radical about Israel, not less

Representative Ilhan Omar is not a vicious antisemite, she is one of few good things about Congress. But she was wrong to suggest this week that America only supports Israel because a powerful lobby buys off US politicians. Far from being too radical, the problem with that view is that it lets America off the hook. The American state needs no conspiracy or blackmail to encourage it to do damage around the world. It is because her worldview can entertain this very possibility – so rarely contemplated in Washington – that Omar represents an enormously hopeful step in national politics. That critical instinct can enable opposition to the American-Israeli alliance and to antisemitism too.

This sounds pretty liberal, tbh. All we know is that they went to jail for a "serious theft charge." This isn't inherently lumpen. Besides, I have friends who have been to jail from crimes like dealing, theft, or possession of counterfeit money who are (relatively) class conscious, at least compared to white middle-class liberals.

Roger Waters, 9th February 2019

Switzerland

Julian Assange is a national Australian treasure. He is a brilliant, brave, honest, humane, relevant, genuine, journalist and publisher of immense influence and significance on the world stage. He has shown himself to be an enormous power for good in a world that is sadly, with some notable exceptions, (Yes John Pilger, I mean you among others,) starved of his ilk.

What Julian Assange is, as a publisher of real news, is a real hero. What he is not is a criminal. His initiative, WikiLeaks, helped expose to the world the hidden machinations of the real criminals in our society: the oligarchs, who in their insatiable quest for more and more wealth, would destroy the fragile planet we call home.

Julian, like all truth seekers scares the sh*t out of them. The truth is their enemy, that is why they and their agents, the governments of the western world, are determined to destroy him.

We, the citizens of the world, have an absolute duty to protect Julian Assange from their unwarranted and illegal attacks.

I unreservedly support and applaud the demonstrations called by the Socialist Equality Party in Australia to demand that the Australian government takes immediate action to secure the freedom of their citizen, Julian Assange, from his near seven-year house imprisonment in the Ecuadorian embassy in London. At least until recently the Ecuadorian presidency was solid in its promise of asylum, but the new president of Ecuador is showing himself to be more susceptible to insidious US pressure. Julian’s situation is dire.

BRING HIM HOME NOW!!!

RESIST!!!!!!!!!

DEMONSTRATE on MARCH 3rd in SYDNEY and MARCH 10th in MELBOURNE

AROUND THE WORLD, RAISE YOUR VOICE EVERYWHERE

DEMAND A SAFE HAVEN FOR JULIAN ASSANGE IN HIS HOME AUSTRALIA.

I linked to the actual article about Janus in one of the last threads you appeared on, and the article was ambivalent, not supportive.

>*Defends sex predators, not just "it's just about due process" but even after they're convicted (Polanski)

The Polanski case is more about the agreed-upon deal being vacated by a judge, I'm fairly sure, not about the conviction itself.

>*Ridiculous crisis mongering, like the current claim that a military dictatorship is about to take over the USA

My own impression from those articles was more they were warning that the bourgeoisie and their hangers-on were warming up to the idea of a military putsch of Trump, not that it was imminent.

I think you used to use a talking point about their fears over nuclear weapons, didn't you? It'd look rather foolish in light of the withdrawal of the US from the INF Treaty.

>Conspiratorial worldview.

I don't find it any more "conspiratorial" than most Marxists. They do avoid actual conspiracies, and the articles against AOC and Sanders have been more against them as false socialists, which they frankly are. In explaining AOC, for example:

>There are two factors behind Ocasio-Cortez’s sudden rise to political prominence. Among broader sections of the population, she has attracted support as a result of her association with socialism. The two most popular figures in the Democratic Party, Senator Bernie Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez, nominally claim to be socialists. Under conditions in which the population is fed an unrelenting diet of right-wing and reactionary politics, anyone who speaks about issues of social inequality can quickly get widespread support.

>The second and more decisive factor is the conscious promotion and elevation of Ocasio-Cortez by the Democratic Party and the media. Ocasio-Cortez perPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

This thread hurts.

'I played 30 games of overwatch on Wednesday, sent 7 emails and reformatted 4 pages in a word document. All from my house and being paid stupid money. What is the point. I'm an IT product manager and get a boss who has no fucking clue what he’s doing so ignores me if everything is on the green or orange. The company outsources it all to a massive software house so I just talk to their product manager every few days.

It’s shitte, nothing more disheartening that hating what you do but not being able to move because of other responsibilities'

'Isolating is a good way to put it. Since I never worked with people (because I did no work in the first place) I also missed all the opportunities for bonding, team building, camaraderie, dicking off in meetings, after work drinks, etc.

Everyone thought I had a dream job but in reality it’s no fun to feel worthless. Even if you’re getting paid like you’re not, you still can be and then feel like it.'

'I do maybe a couple of hours of work a week and make 130k salaried as a project manager. I do listen to a lot of bullshit from customers and the guys I manage but for the most part, I do almost nothing. I have papers spread out on my desk at all times and my computer pulled up on the quarterly commission sheet just to look busy. But behind my cubicle and filing cabinets, I’m browsing reddit and buying shit on Amazon… I’m miserable tho.

Fuck this sounds amazing. Anyone got advice on how to into bullshit jobs, what the best ones are, etc?

I feel almost embarrassed. I work as a personal assistant to a disabled guy. When it's work it's hard work, but I mostly work night shifts where I'm basically just a night guard, so I have anywhere from 8 to 10 hours to just lay on the sofa and read books/watch films or do school work. It's also "rewarding" in a sense I know I'm at least doing a job that really needs to be done. The pay is shit, but that's the only kind of pay I've ever had.

Cherish your bullshit job.

Has Louis Blanc's brand of socialism, where the government nationalizes certain natural resources and industries and uses the money to set up and subsidize coops, seen any implementation in the 20th century?

What is it with Left-wing politics in the 21st century that seems to lend itself to being so readily adopted by people who view it as an aesthetic/lifestyle choice rather than as a meaningful political position.

Teenage ☭TANKIE☭s, anarkidies, Larpers, twitter slacktivists, why do these people far outnumber any actual working class Socialists involved in party building or Trade Unionism?

I guess what I'm saying is that every time I see some obese 20-something with a black beret they've affixed a red star to, I want to gouge my eyes out, especially when they're amongst the people most likely to wail about how their "comrades are wrong/problematic/liberal" when they meet anyone who does anything meaningful.

My party has also a separate youth organization, although you can already join the party with 16 years. Recently I've met some people from the youth organization and I was quite surprised, what kind of people consider themself as youth: Everybody was around 25 and refused for some reason to leave the youth organization, to join afterwards the party. I simply don't understand this. The world is on fire, but my potential comrades don't want to grow up.

>THE entrance to the conference hall is nearly deserted. The delegates have retired to adjacent hostelries to sink enough pints to allow them to sleep through the afternoon debate, so most literature sellers have taken a break.

>Only two groups remain. One, the Spartacist League, are chanting ‘General Strike Now’, while another, the International Communist Party, try to drown them out with ‘Build the ICFI’ – International Committee of the Fourth International to the uninitiated. Do they hope to convert each other? Or myself, the only other listener? Surely not, but each feels that the first to leave would be chicken. I am glad my daughter is not in sight as she is probably warm and dry – on the other hand, she has my coat. Resisting the temptation to raise my own slogan – ‘Smash neo-Kantian revisionism!’ – I leave both groups to the sardonic screaming of the gulls. The rain drizzles from a lead-grey sky as I walk to the station. ‘So what’, you may say, ‘I never did care for Brighton.’ However, the two groups, and their rivals who have gone to lunch, form the core of organised British socialism. If a bureaucrat temporarily wakes from his slumber during the afternoon and feels any guilt about applauding the hypocritical rhetoric coming from the platform, he has certainly in his youth been a supporter of one of the socialist groups.
