You have to go back 20 years for the last time the country elected a prime minister from the left. The 69-year-old Netanyahu won even though he has already been in office for 10 years straight, on top of serving an earlier term in the 1990s. And he won despite expectations that his own attorney general will indict him for alleged bribery and fraud.

Calling Assange a ‘narcissist’ misses the point – without WikiLeaks we would live in darker, less informed times

Later the helicopter crew are told over the radio that they have killed 11 Iraqis and a small child has been injured. “Well, it’s their fault for bringing their kids into battle,” comments somebody about the carnage below.Except there was no “battle” and all those who died were civilians, though the Pentagon claimed they were gunmen. The trigger-happy pilots had apparently mistaken a camera for a rocket propelled grenade launcher. Journalists in Baghdad, including myself, were from the start sceptical about the official US story because insurgents with weapons in their hands were unlikely to be standing chatting to each other in the street with an American helicopter overhead. As on many similar occasions in Iraq, our doubts were strong but we could not prove that the civilians had not been carrying weapons in the face of categorical denials from the US Department of Defence. It was known that a video of the killings taken from the helicopter existed, but the Pentagon refused to release it under the Freedom of Information Act. Plenty of people were being killed all over Iraq at the time and the incident would soon have been forgotten, except by the families of the dead, if a US soldier called Chelsea Manning had not handed over a copy of the official video to WikiLeaks which published it in 2010.

Why the US AID to Venezuela was Not Real Aid and How False Western Humanitarianism is Used to Justify Imperialism

A common misconception people have about Venezuela ever since the installation of the US-backed, interim self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido on the first week of January of this year, is that the “humanitarian aid” that the US had sent to Venezuela via USAID was meant to assist the Venezuelan population and that the Maduro government is rejecting all aid to the country. The reality is that the Maduro administration has accepted aid from numerous countries as well as working with United Nations organizations, and the USAID was indeed a trojan horse to use as a means of US military intervention. Venezuela has received aid from its allies such as Russia, Iran, China and Cuba, as well as from other nations such as Mexico. On February 13th, 2019, Russia had sent 300 tonnes of medicines to Venezuela. In addition to this, Cuba and China were the main countries that had sent over 60 containers with 933 tonnes of medicine to Venezuela within the same week. In the week of February 25th, 2019, Mexico had sent four shipments with a cargo of food and first aid necessity items which had arrived at the La Guaira port in Vargas state, Venezuela, as reported by the Governor of Vargas state, Jorge Luis Garcia Carneiro. Governor Carneiro elaborated that the aid delivered from Mexico would be distributed to different communities among the 11 municipalities of the Vargas state.

Haftar basically is a new Gaddafi in that he's larping as a secularist strongman who is the only man who can save the nation from chaos.

of course he also includes some salafists and shit in his forces so the truth is more complicated

the LNA is the UN backed government but in reality has no control beyond Tripoli, or even in most of Tripoli honestly, beyond it's agreements with a plethora of various militias/whatever you want to call them, who are corrupt as fucking hell.

no good options honestly

If I had to speculate I'd say the Taliban is looking for a serious blow here to put the final nail in the coffin of the Afghan war. If the Taliban make a decisive victory here peace talks will be forced through on Taliban terms. Trump and his administration has the military spread thin as it is and with the insistence of heating up Venezuela our big west boy might decide to cut his losses and drop Afghanistan.

Speaking of Gadaffi, is Saif-Islam a factor? I've heard he was in jail, leading the Popular Front for the Liberation of Libya (a Gaddafi loyal militia, I don't know if they're big or even a factor really), and that the ICC was looking for him

My guess is there will be a media blackout as the Taliban wins, no one will know or understand what's happening there except for some troops who don't want to say they lost anyway to preserve their pride/manhood, all the focus will be on the incoming invasion of either Iran or Venezuela.

100% this Afghanistan is going to be intentionally unmentioned as the pivot towards Venezuela and Iran heats up. This assuming a Taliban victory in the offensive. If it's a Taliban defeat we might get Trump portraying the ensuing peace deal as an American victory and hold a farce Triumph.

“Stalin begins to be perceived as a symbol of justice and an alternative to the current government, deemed unfair, cruel and not caring about people,”

A record 70 percent of Russians approve of Soviet leader Josef Stalin’s role in Russian history, according to a poll published by the independent Levada Center pollster on Tuesday.

Stalin’s image has been gradually rehabilitated in the 2000s from that of a bloody autocrat to an “outstanding leader.”
