Genuine question I think everyone should ask themselves.

honestly western leftists are too sperged out and individualized to ever coalesce as a relevant political force, everyone is focused on cultivating their very own very special political identity and discussing retarded ideological bullshit with each other to even fight back against the right.

Even here and in the other board most of you faggots are nothing but quasi-reformed /pol/yps who can't spend 5 minutes without arguing about whether or not you should kill all trannies/blacks/browns because for some retarded reason or another you cannot fathom existing at the same time or place than someone who is vaguely different than you. Hell there's even a chunk of you who won't believe anything about climate change until you're dying from heatstroke, freezing to death, starving or drowned within a decade or two.

Out there everyone is mostly just backwards liberals and traditionalists who have most definitely lost their minds, normies who literally can't see shit beyond what's in front of them and are unable to think about anything but basic normie shit and fringe bullshit like anti vaxxers.

Is society just too far gone to ever recover? even if we somehow magically manage not to get sent back to the stone age by climate catastrophe in the next few decades and we actually manage to get a revolution off the ground, is there anything still worth saving?

civilization exists within brain tissue only, and as such is subject to biological constraints. this organism has fallen into the same trap as hundreds of thousands of others, it simply outcompeted everything until only it remained.

as it wastes away, there may be other organisms which can take its niche, but as we see more often, niches are destroyed permanently. most surface metals have been processed and cannot be easily repurposed - most high quality, easily accessible coal and oil has been extracted and burned - these things will likely not be accessible to the next potential civilization organism, and may change the course of its evolution.

but that is an unavoidable feature of linear time. it is neither a negative or positive. was it good that certain environments and conditions allowed industrial civilization to form? or was it bad, because that civilization would eventually destroy the environment and change the conditions that made it? its neutral. time goes on, things continue to adapt and evolve and change. perhaps our civilization will end up serving as a springboard for some distant descendant, utilizing our plastic waste and the climatic conditions we induced. maybe that civilization will never form class society. so maybe its all worth it

Right now, the people who are paying close enough attention to the ecological experts and/or the historical trajectory of politics to see a crisis coming are overwhelmingly bourgeois or PMC, so their first instinct is to find a new basis for state power that is actually capable of accomplishing massive societal change without destroying the system that works so well for them. That's where you get the various types of nationalists as well as the radical, race-reductionist liberals.

Capitalism and markets are not a framework for massive change justified by human needs rather than market logic, as has been shown many times. The liberal project is therefore DOA, as shown by neoliberalism's failure to get meaningful global commitments around the narrow issue of CO2.

So as the issue starts to threaten the working class and its standard of living, even places like the US and Scandinavia will quickly arrive at socialism vs fascism, and not today's hyped up cosplay that amounts to social democracy vs anti-globalization conservatism.

The thing I want to emphasize is that the necessity of socialism and to some extent its ability to beat fascism is not affected by the current pointless bickering over things like whether we will need to scale back industrialization, renewables vs nuclear, etc. That stuff will move to the background when socialism is one of the only alternatives to the failed market system. The question will be whether the working class is organized and powerful enough to take power in the first place, and then whether we can exploit the contradictions in fascism to beat it.

Recovery is not impossible but will also probably not be accepted.

A world in which sillicon valley and the furry fandom (but i repeat myself) exist while the planet burns up is a hellworld run by clowns. The way in which the internet has opened up new ways to commodify and condense human socialisation is deeply dystopian and it's only going to get worse.

The only honourable thing to do in such circumstances is to fight onwards for improvement of the world, even if failure seems certain. Despite the deep, deep problems we've got it isn't certain that they're insurmountable. They only appear insurmountable due to the parameters of the current reality system. It's cliche, but revolutions are impossible until they were inevitable. Even if you fail, even if this is the end, what's the alternative to trying?

Despite how stupid the current world is an how miserable the state of humanity is, we're already past the worst of it. The mid-2000s were the absolute nadir of political organisation and hope for change, the utter deadening boredom of the victory of neoliberalism. Things may get better, things may get worse as we go forward but one thing's for sure - the previously existing mid-2000s common sense, economic liberalisation described as 'modernisation', as historically inevitable, is at an end. Even if what follows is worse, the fact something does follow breaks the notion of the end of history.

There is reason to be hopeful, if not optimistic.

Libya (and arab spring) was a coordinated attack to exploit underlying cultural unrest. The reverse is likely to be done against the west as well since it embraced multicultural values of equality, but they let people keep their culture and religion of origin. Which usually lead to conflict when one culture doesn't hold dominance and takes over the desirable elements from a foreign culture, while otherwise restraining the influence of that foreign culture.

No life is quite good for most compared to ages before. It's the comfort induced by technological progress that is making people reluctant to care much about politics beyond sensationalism from mainstream media. The third world obviously doesn't have this comfort since they're technological far behind, and also far behind in terms of connectivity as evidenced by the difference of urbanization numbers.

>>2872055

They were even caught intentionally making the hole wider by having factories that use banned chemicals. But Chinese party puts on a smile, say it won't happen again and it is business as usual since the west can't really make a fist against China. Maybe US still can, but I think that will change once their bubbles start bursting and they enter a new crisis.

can you elaborate on this? give a couple examples

Newfag detected. /leftpol/ has been colonized by reactionaries for months at this point (and they were there from the start if we're being honest, pretty much outnumbering those with actual grievances with BO policy before long), and you seem to have a really hard time distinguishing between people who are actually from /pol/ baiting and who is a leftist, so you're either fucking disabled or disingenuous. Yes I can elaborate on that. The early Roman empire (pre 200) took the spoils of the places it conquered and used it for their own sake. They adopted knowledge from Greeks and appropriated a lot of culture into their dominant structure.

I believe the religious conflicts that took place within cities such as for example Alexandria (Christians and Jews) in late antiquity give a good idea when a certain religion can't take over another. The plus side of culture is that it's very flexible and open to appropriate or change for better (or worse). But religion doesn't have this bend, I think mistakes of past will be repeated when culture started mattering less and religion more in society.

The reason I said life is quite good right now is that I was comparing it to 19th century. Which was a very patriarchal society, women needed to marry to even stand a chance if they didn't they were screwed. Their only chance at upward mobility was somehow marrying upward. That's ignoring the order in society which was ruled by nobility in early modernity (pre 1800's) and later by powerful merchants. The common pleb was working an agricultural shitjob, certainly they weren't artisans. The living conditions usually meant clamping multiple families into a single house. Sometimes they were housed under the roof of a boss they worked for.

If you compare modern standards to 19th century or even early 20th century I feel like we're much further as a society. Though it's mostly attributable due to increased efficiency of agricultural production (-> high urbanization in west), increased efficiency of processes and construction, improved transportation of products and increased efficiency in gathering resources.

Our technological ability will keep improving especially in the data age where journals and knowledge is so accessible compared to the past. Sure the capitalist system is sick, but almost any sick system can survive when there has been a constant stream of improvements to life from the technological side. It's certainly keeping people comfortable.
