The sixth mass extinction event is already well underway. It has been since before we were born.

Humanity's expansion and consumption are the cause.

Even the earliest humans were prodigious hunters, but their ability to fundamentally alter their ecology was very limited, and the earth was still bountiful with lifeforms we will never see today.

Agriculture and technology allowed for, and then expanded to require, growth and surplus; both predicated on resource consumption, both fundamentally opposed to sustainability. Capitalism may indeed be the worst ideology, as many here would claim, and certainly it presided over many of the worst atrocities of the modern era, but this is an ideology born out of a still primitive, primordial even, drive for more - more everything, forever - it is the unheard mantra of all life.

Human society will not be able to heal much of the damage it has done. It will not be able to transition to sustainable societies even if it wanted to, which it, like all life, fundamentally does not want to do. Fitness/power maximization is inherent to all forms of life humans have encountered, and in the human context that means that available resources will be utilized until they are depleted/vanish. It has been, and would be so, from the very moment it was possible to be so.

The current age is an unprecedented era of death in this planet's history. Most people are unaware of this, because they are so far removed from the natural world - they don't see it crumbling beneath their feat.

Embrace life, and embrace death, for you will surely come to know both.

I think there is a future but it will be nothing like before. We've gone too far for permanent change not to be set in motion. I believe in imminent social crisis though.

Pretentious asswankery.

Bollocks. Everyone is aware of mass extinction. It's common knowledge. At most they lack the historical perspective to see the radical implications.

It seems like the opposite.. Apes are in the uncanny valley. Big Cats, Elephants, Wolves, etc. All seem like cool animals that I wouldn’t want going extinct. But Apes, they seem like a failed human that should be euthanized for their own good.

I really don't understand capitalists, surely they understand what long-term profits are? Even if they're greedy fucks why are they THIS dumb?

Orangutangs are intelligent if childish creatures and it would be a tragedy to see them vanish.

>>2873243

>they just take up space and do nothing of value

Take a fucking Environmental Science class you ignoramus, you do realize that animals are key parts of ecology and without even 1 species the balance of an environment careens out of control which in turn affects surrounding environments which in turn has a global effect.

TL;DR porky leave, ecology is important.

>I really don't understand capitalists, surely they understand what long-term profits are? Even if they're greedy fucks why are they THIS dumb?

The mechanism that regulates business success isn't capitalist foresight. It's quarterly reports and shareholder reactions. A shrewd porky will get booted by boomer shareholders who aren't pleased with their lower dividendies.

If anything, nature is a totally chaotic heartless beast and not this Gaia goddess that's in harmony. Imagine any other system wherein you take out one insignificant element and the whole thing collapses. So stop calling it 'harmony,' for god's sake. It's rather the few moments of peace nature gives us.
