Learning Japanese

Hey comrades, I have a bit of a confession to make: I was another one of those retarded kids who got into anime, became entranced by the beauty of the Japanese language and wanted to become fluent. Except I was in my early 20s ;-;

Now, I got further then your average weeb kid who says shit like baka-gaijn-senpai-kun but I'm still probably at or below an intermediate level. The toughest part for me is of course the Kanji that every pleb struggles with, the spoken language to my ear isn't so difficult to understand but it takes me a little bit to process a response.

To be honest, I'm not that much of weeb anymore after graduating college and getting a gf she has come around to the weeb ways but I feel like giving up on Japanese after putting in so much effort and hours into it would kinda be a waste.

On the other hand, I really don't what I will do with it: I'm not sure I want to live in hellhole controlled by a far-right government undergoing Milton Friedman-tier porky restructuring alongside an out of control nuclear meltdown. I would probably enjoy the upsides of the expat experience in Japan tho…

Realistically, unless I use my knowledge of Japanese to expose the history of the Japanese Left to a broader audience, write a history on the Meiji Revolution, or critique Japanese fascism or the development of Japanese capitalism, I don't think that it would be of much use either to my interests as a leftist or to my comrades. Let's just say I'm pretty far from that fam.

I've thought that Japanese could be a stepping stone to my study of Chinese since original research there is even rarer. But having taken a course in Chinese I am not naive enough to think that these languages are similar; they sound miles apart.

Can you recommend some methods and tactics to learn Japanese so it doesn't have to be a career in itself? Also, non-animu or mango Japanese culture recommendations would be appreciated just for variety.

Ah, our general Miao

A manga about fictional DPRK-like socialist dictatorship where supreme leader is a 9 year old granddaughter of the legendary revolutionary.

Very cute, socialist aesthetic is on point, initially seems like it's taking the piss but volume 1 ends up being pretty sympathetic to the cause, not sure if authors are crypto commies or just being nice.

Here's a freshly expropriated raw for you guys, might do a dirty translation of a chapter or two when I have the time.

Is CGDCT feminist?

So I stumbled across this video on YouTube today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-9vRCpkL98

The first part of the video is about how Hidamari Sketch is good and CGDCT anime more generally have artistic merit and can be thematically diverse, and that is very agreeable. 6 minutes in, though, he starts speaking about how progressive these shows are and that's when I got a little lost. I don't thinking merely passing the Bechdel test or having a female writing staff is a sufficient condition for a show to be "feminist". I understand the K-On! one, I suppose, because the characters and their relationships with each other are really well developed.

What do you guys think? Is he right, or is this idpol stuff a waste of time, or are these shows still objectifying in spite of these factors? That's a genuine question: I'm honestly not sure what I think.

bug restoration thread

As many of us know 8chan has a retarded Alacrity bug that essentially 404s many images that are in active threads. To counteract this one needs to repost the exact same image again. This thread is for that purpose.

This is also a reminder to Waybackarchive and archive.is all threads and all images and webms, with images and webms requiring individual archiving to make sure they're saved.

- Wayback machine can be downloaded onto a browser in a manner no different to an adblocker and thus be used in a similar way, just open a link (be it a thread or an image url), right-click and select "save page now" If you have issues saving simply reload the browser or open another browser and save there.

- Archive.is can simply be pinned as a bookmark and clicking on it will automatically start saving the page you're currently viewing.

Both are simple methods so people not using them or using them enough is simply inexcusable on this buggy site.

If you cannot find an image in wayback or archive.is open the tor variant of these pages, many missing images are there.

/m/ Thread

Since I asked in the kuso thread and Kuuga gave the thumbs up. Not sure if western works are given leeway though.

That said, how leftist do you think Pacific Rim is? I made a post about how civilians were given agency in the Justice Union thread (RIP). Mostly through the PPDC's portrayal as a paramilitary force or even militia esp. after government funding got cut. No dress code (Tendo), the bulk is probably made up of technicians and most pilots have a civilian background since compatibility is rare and training became specialised. Raleigh is one such person and even spent five years as a prole on the Wall, which brings me to my next point. I think more can be said about the Wall than just a passing jab at reinforced borders. I imagine the working conditions of Jaeger factories were much better. Not the safest thing, sure, but at least you're not literally risking your life to get food. Those who fall from the top are quickly replaced with the promise of better ration cards. To top it all off, it doesn't even work.

Then there's the brief news clips of the populace rioting. Probably because of that last fact but I also remember the news ticker mentioning porkies fleeing inland and leaving the poor to die. Also, that whole thing about commercialising the war (is that the right term?) in the opening.

If this is too brainlet for you, please feel free to discuss other things.

RE Capitalism and Anime

I was arguing with a dumbass in another thread but I think the post deserves its own thread. Attached are two pdfs I found with pertinent information. JETRO covers the arrangement of the anime industry (though I think it's outdated), and the other gives us our information on the various revenues and profits of the industry as a whole.

In reality the situation for anime/manga is good–on paper. They've been experiencing rising profits for the past few years, but that doesn't mean the industry is healthy.

>While we are on the topic of an anime boom, we have to borrow a term from the oil industry and talk about peak anime. Have the production companies hit their limit in terms of production, which decreased slightly from the previous year by about 4,000 minutes? In terms of raw numbers, only one more new anime was produced this year as compared to the previous year, with the rest of the bump coming from a larger hold over of older shows. The reason for the slowed growth is due to a lack of capacity in producing and finding spots to air the shows.

As an analogy, we've seen that despite Hollywood's record breaking profits, we haven't experienced a golden age in terms of cinema, either in output or quality. The manga industry has experienced a similar process of mergers and acquisitions as profits vacillate. In the end the cumulative effects are similar. You have fewer independent studios as they conglomerate into larger companies. This allows for the allocation of greater resources, but to less projects. This in turn leads to the same "top heavy" effect of having to throw more and more capital at projects in order to maintain current profits and hopefully produce greater ones. However, a significant enough disruption or an unexpected flop can mean bankruptcy, especially since

The only substantial growth the industry has seen in the past 5 years has been from the oversees market. The US accounts for 12.5% of manga sales and Europe 26%, just a little less than Asia which makes up almost 40%, half of which is China alone. The US and Europe both have their own comics industries, and the year before last was the most profitable comics have been in the US in its entire history iirc. And China is developing its own native manga industry, and because of Communism with Chinese Characteristics(TM) can shut off the flow of legitimate manga for any reason, at any time. If they were to do so, that would mean a 20% loss in overseas sales, which for China comes to about Y160B.

Without the foreign market, the anime industry would have experienced no growth at all last year. Overseas sales constitute the only sector of substantial growth. That doesn't exactly paint a picture of a healthy industry. Should the industry face a sudden disruption or contraction, it could be a very bumpy ride. Consider too the Fukushima plant (another good ol' product of Capitalism :^) is still leaking, and 85% of Japan's anime industry is in Tokyo.

Better grab your plastic waifu dolls while the grabbin's good.

De-Classcucked Animes?

Anyone know of good declasscucked animes and/or animes that explain and criticize capitalism?

This decade old anime called Speed Grapher comes to mind, theory of capital circulation and flow and its role in economic crisis presented within the film oddly similar to Marx's own. Emphasis on the visages of class and capitalism; the Japanese elite are portrayed as vampiric psychopaths who want to undermine democracy. Series ends with an global economic collapse worse then than the Great Depression, flashes to five years later and the world economy is still in a rut and the worst make out best.

Released in 2005 seems to predict the Great Recession of 2008 and its outcome imo

Ok, I know avatar isn't from special animu land, but just go with it ok.

Is the antagonist of Korra season 1 (Amon) supposed to be representative of communists? You could pretty much replace 'benders' with 'bourgeois' in his speeches and it would sound like communist rhetoric. It seems to be replacing the rich with benders as a 'metaphor' despite the fact that none of it is actually applicable. I was pretty disappointed as the last airbender had what I took as some quite good anarchist messages.

Reposting from /leftytrash/

Warning, extreme autism ahead!

I've been trying to put my own spin on the whole Isekai genre that's popular in Japan these days for a while now by writing a light novel of my own.

>Why am I doing this?

Mostly because I feel like it and I thought it would be kind of a fresh take on a genre that's saturated with endless amounts of bland and generic shounen plots centered around shut-in/socially awkward otakus blessed by their ROB of the week that singlehandedly save the JRPG fantasy world that they got sent into from the evil demon lord that threatens to destroy the (insert generic fantasy kingdom that the main cast inhabits here). Usually while he's doing all that saving the world shit he's also gathering a harem comprised of pretty much every decent looking woman he's met on his journey more often than not said women are slaves, because that way most Jap authors can skip the whole development part of the relationship and just have the slave instantly adore her new master cause they treat her nicely. So in short, I have some pet-peeves with how the genre is being handled and I'd like to take my own spin at it.

>So how is this different?

The base concept of being transported to another world is the same. The twist is that when the MC is transported, its not some ROB that kills him with a truck, gives an exposition dump about the new world and sends him off on his way, but instead a simple force of nature that through a freak accident tears a hole through realities when too much of it ends up being concentrated in one place. I call it the "winds of magic" in-universe. There are also no supernatural beings such as gods or demons, everything's a natural phenomenon including magic which is ever-present in this new reality. The main character is also not going to try and go be an adventurer the first thing he does because there's no cheat code to help him become OP with the snap of his fingers and there's no leveling systems like in RPGs to make you stronger just by grinding mobs and doing simple everyday tasks. He will actually have to use his own wits and knowledge to survive with whatever he has on hand. Current plan is to have the main character get snatched while he's on a hunting trip so he has some way of surviving at first instead of getting devoured by the first wild animal he comes across but he will gradually start to struggle as his supplies begin running out with many of them being of the hard-to-replace variety. Ammo of course becomes a big issue early on if he uses any kind of firearm so either he has to find a new weapon and learn how to use it or figure out how to reload the spent casings with late medieval-renaissance technology.

>How is this relevant to leftism?

I'm thinking of including several things within the story that might help make it more interesting. Things like the use of dialectical and historical materialism by the main character ie. showing how he observes the changes overtime in material conditions and how these by extension shape and have shaped the society that he finds himself in.

>What's been done so far?

Currently I have several concepts for regional powers, religions, races/species etc. One of those is a small and newly-born peasant republic (inspired by Monty Python and the historical peasant republic of Dithmarschen) based on some kind of primitive form of syndicalism, mutual aid and delegative democracy. Bordering this republic is a larger empire that has access to vast resources, manpower and land but suffers from the problems of many historical empires such as overextension of its borders to the point that it has to deal with constant separatist uprisings (the aforementioned peasant republic being the result of one of those).

>Why post this here?

I'm mostly looking for suggestions and ideas on what could be included and possible critique on the concepts and ideas presented so far, so feel free to ask questions and provide feedback.

>Can I post my own stories/story ideas?

Sure go on ahead.

Strange Tales

There tend to be more ugly villains than heroes because society leaves them no other option. People turned into bats by radioactive ghosts shouldn't be excluded from everyday life just because they now crave human blood. A hot masked woman that can control matter shouldn't get 70% of what her male counterpart gets for ransoming a European country. Transphibians and other human-to-animal individuals should be allowed to use the bathroom of the species they identify as. Since masked villains make up more than 80% of cases of super villain brutality, and more than 90% of all megamax, subterranean, voidbuilt, temporal, and plastic prisons, it is clear that we need to make changes to what we consider "justice" in this country. New evidence shows that only five superheroes control 86% of the world's adamantium, while seven rogue scientists control 69% of all super-atomium. We, the XX%, believe that there needs to be a new discussion about the distribution of these and other resources.

The autistic Yuki-chan

Hi. Gnostic Haruhi-poster here. I hope the anon interested in Suzumiya stuff will read this post.

So, I've watched the spin-off and you are clearly right: it is what the movie's Yuki hide in the personal computer. It's normal that people thrash it, given the difference in taste from the main series. Nevertheless, I liked it and the contrast between the gravity of the main series and its apparent naivete and stupidity is what makes it hilarious to me.

What I took out of it is that normality is the biggest hallucination. Normality is what we chase in order to not think about reality, nothing fancy we value the most, just the fiction of ordinary life.

Another interesting element is the transition from Suzumiya's angst to a form of more comfy religious delusion, where aliens etc. don't necessarily have to exist, believing in them (and the reassurance from another human being - Kyon - not disbelieving statement) is enough for her to keep going on with her life.

Now for the juicy parts, the car accident triggers the emergence of consciousness. The Nagato after the accident is recognizable as the OG Nagato except for one detail: she is not the unexpressive Nagato, she is sad. Alienated from her true godly being, inside the autistic Nagato she knows she's just playing a part, in a place that's not hers.

Descended in human flesh, Yuki learns that what she feels take form as “love”. Is clear to me that the two are not a pair of different personalities but two hierarchical levels of “self”. See the upper Yuki's thoughts blending into the architecture of the lower Yuki. Not the book lover vs. the dating sims lover but the one that exists in every dimension in the HS universe vs the human creature in TDONYCh.

Interestingly, Kyon confesses to the spiritual, absent, Nagato, not to the common, present, Nagato. This could mean that Kyon sees the sacred love as the real deal, which terrestrial love is just an image of it, and that between the two, synchronically fallen in love, sparks a Christo-Sophia dialectic.

Another funny element is minor Yuki's ignorance of human mathematics language: she doesn't know to be an “alien” whereas major Yuki, who knows, grasp it without problems.

How leftist is from the new world?

I know that the show explores leftist themes but I can't help but think that deep down but think that this is actually uber reactionary considering that the only point of view we had through almost the entire film was from the ruling class.

I also worry if a normal person watching this would view the monster rats as non-humans even past the end. If I was to show my ultra Christian conservative father the show and he would support this ultra religious and stratified class society as a Utopia.

Could the Sword of Dios used in Revolutionary Girl Utena be considered a metaphor for reformism? From the last duel we see that the point of the duels was to liberate Anthy with the sword of the Engaged, but as we see, Akio uses the sword until it breaks and he later comments that it was expected that it wouldn't work. If we see the sword as a metaphor for reformism, then we're basically seeing the process of the ruling class taking reformist measures and using them to the point of breakdown, with the working class still kept in its chains.

Seriously, what the hell happened?

Just how did anime become associated with far-right fuckery? A few years ago, I actually thought that the Right would create an "Anime Sucks" movement akin to the "Disco Sucks" movement of the 70s. One of the reasons anime succeeded among the younger generation was that it was willing to take on themes that most American animation was too unwilling and uncreative to.

I love when antagonists become good guys. One of my favorite anime tropes tbqh. Except in the case of Vegeta. In DBZ I thought he was a really fun character, but after Namek he becomes really dull, and it seems like by Super he's become a husk of a man. What does he even want now besides to be stronger than Goku (which he knows can never happen)? To stand around and sulk, apparently.

It's mostly a thing in shonenshit I think, but it's even better when it happens in a seinen. I guess it can happen in shoujo stuff too, the rival eventually realizes senpai will never notice her and steps aside for MC-chan. I don't really know anything about shoujos though.

Japanese Economic History

So, what the fuck actually happened? Japan was supposed to be the economic super-power of the 21st century, most analysts and economists in the late 20th century were pretty confident that Japan would overtake the US by the year 2000…and then it all busted…

While a case can be made that Japan's "decline" has been overstated, pretty much everybody is confident that 6% growth is never coming back again. I think Japan has a fascinating economic history going from feudal backward to being wealthier then any European nation in a century and a half.

Since Japan does have a capitalist system I think that leads to my next question about the Japanese elite? Who are they? How powerful are they? I read somewhere that in the 1980s that 6 out of 10 of the world's richest men were Japanese. Today, there is not a single Japanese billionaire on the Forbes list of top 20 billionaires. The richest man in Japan is officially worth "just" $21 billion dollars, a hefty sum, but not really competitive with the exorbitant holdings of the richest Western oligarchs. Paradoxically, while Japan boasts fewer mega-rich oligarchs it has also been observed that inequality in Japan between the rich and the poor are at record higher since the post-war period.

Does anybody know anything about the interwar elite, such as the Mitsui clan and the Royal family, they were reputed to be the richest people on earth during the interwar and then WWII came and allegedly wiped out most of their holdings. If the Yakuza is as powerful as widely claimed then doesn't that also mean that a substantial amount of elite holdings also aren't calculated since they are illegal?

A final question is what has been post-war Japan's international political-economic interests in the 20th-21st century and how might they change? What is Japan's behavior in the Third World like post-WWII? Does anybody know anything about the Japanese secret service? Do they have a global reach like the CIA, Mossad, MI5, FSB, MSS, DGSE, etc. and has anyone attempted to document their activities?

The United States of Japan

>The first salvoes in what might be called Japan’s “war on stuff” date back even earlier, to the first half of the nineteen-nineties. That is when the sudden crash of the Japanese real-estate and stock markets ushered in twenty years of stagnation so severe that the period is now known as the Lost Decades.

>Amid the suffering economy and the collapse of social safety nets such as the promise of lifetime employment, younger Japanese lost the ambition for acquiring things that fuelled an earlier, more financially stable generation. Hiroshi Aoi, the president of the Marui Group, which operates Japan’s largest retail chain, was uniquely positioned to see how drastically consumers cut back. In an interview in 2016, he told me that the Lost Decades represented a “turning away from outward expressions of fashion.… The idea of personal fulfillment became the product, with things like foods, dining out, and leisure experiences rising to the forefront.” If this sounds familiar, it is because the same pattern is now repeating among America’s millennials. Some call it the “experience economy.” Others call it “post-materialism.” But this great turning inward in the face of economic uncertainty could just as accurately be called Japanization.

>When the seventy-year-old chain revealed that it would be shuttering all of its stores in the United States, pundits blamed a toxic combination of predatory lenders who had saddled the toy retailer with more than five billion dollars in debt, competition from Walmart and Target, and the rise of Amazon. But buried amid the laments (“I want to cry right now,” one customer told the Times) was a revealing comment from Toys R Us itself: One of the key factors retarding its growth was the country’s declining birth rate.

>In 2016, the U.S. birth rate was 1.8, the lowest since 1976. For many reasons, Americans are choosing to have fewer babies, and, as a result, our population is growing steadily older. Framed in these terms, Toys R Us wasn’t a blip on the radar but a canary in a coal mine. Here, too, the U.S. is increasingly resembling Japan. One of the reasons that the Japanese have struggled to recover from their extended economic troubles is a basic lack of human resources. America has traditionally filled the gap with immigration, a history that hawks obsessed with “chain migration” and wall-building conveniently ignore. Japan’s population doesn’t have that source of replenishment. The country’s total fertility rate as of 2016 was 1.4, and the total number of births was the lowest ever in one hundred and eighteen years that records have been kept. As a percentage of its population, Japan has almost twice as many citizens older than sixty-five as the U.S. does. Adult diapers already outsell baby diapers there.

>Another societal struggle that Japan was one of the first developed countries to encounter can be seen on the opposite end of the age spectrum, in its large population of unemployed young men and women. A report from 2017 revealed that, in 2015, there are some 1.7 million of them, a full ten per cent of those between the ages of fifteen and twenty-nine—a shocking number, given that Japan’s unemployment rate is an enviable 2.5 per cent. Officially, Japan calls these people NEETs (“not in education, employment, or training”) and “freeters” (temps who drift among various short-term jobs).

>Yet Japan’s trend is now America’s: a 2016 Pew study showed that, for the first time since 1940, men between the ages of eighteen and thirty-four are more likely to live at home with a parent than with a partner or spouse. Many lack college degrees. “So what are they doing with their time?” the University of Chicago economist Eric Hurst has asked. “The hours that they are not working have been replaced almost one for one with leisure time. Seventy-five percent of this new leisure time falls into one category: video games.” Not coincidentally, a field that the Japanese perfected, if not pioneered.

Fuck Konami

Ex-Konami employees can't put their years of experience with the company on their resumes or Konami will sue. Capitalism is a wonderful thing.

>Konami's authoritarian approach is notorious in the industry. Employees are not allowed to have their own corporate email address. When they have to communicate with outside parties, they are given an address consisting of five random numbers and letters, and the address is terminated within a few months. Lunch breaks have strict time limits, and timecards are used to record how long they take. The names of those who go over the time limit are made public throughout the company.

>Employees' social media activities are also monitored. In 2014, Konami workers who liked a Facebook post by an ex-Kon saying he started working for a different company were shuffled to different positions.

There's nothing wrong with escapism per se. Just like there isn't anything wrong with using ibuprofen when you have a headache, escapism is a spiritual anesthetic that can ease the pain of reality. Some degree of escapism, for any individual I believe, is a normal and healthy thing to engage in, whether it's daydreaming during a boring meeting or recalling a fond memory of a departed loved one or losing oneself in a movie for a couple hours, and so on.

Like many young nerds growing up, I really enjoyed anime and the escape it provided from my life of alienation. My interests and personality separated me from my peers and made school an unpleasant experience at best, and generally I only found community in online spaces like 4chan, where the regular idols of society–wealth, success, beauty, popularity, etc–simply didn't matter or were outright rejected. Like so many others on this trajectory, my life eventually brought me to NEETdom. The pain I experienced from society and its expectations was too great for me to handle and I parted myself from it to instead live in isolation.

What I thought was removing myself from social pain, I eventually came to understand instead as relegating myself to social numbness. The phantom pain of cutting myself off from social interaction was only alleviated by the escapism anime and video games provided. Instead of a temporary relief from social agony, it was a constant drip of fantasy without which living would have been impossible.

I'm since no longer a NEET and my life has taken a different vector, but I'm not completely removed from that world either, and I believe I've been noticing lately some potentially disturbing trends. Wish fulfillment certainly isn't a quality novel to fiction, but it seems as though it's begun to reach levels that go beyond the fantastic into the absurd or surreal. I don't have a better word for it, so I've been calling it the "reincarnation genre."

Shows like Konosuba, Knights and Magic, RE:Monster, Overlord, and others aren't especially unique in their content, but are distinguished by their particular framing devices. The main character originates in our world and tends to be isolated or distinguished in some way. Usually he is technically skilled or distinct in his breadth and knowledge of some aspect of nerd/otaku culture (gaming, anime, etc). This is a common enough trope, but the element that gives it an entirely different character from earlier anime is that some event, usually death, immediately and completely separates them from this world and places them sometimes inexplicably in a world in which they are uniquely able to excel, as though by design. Their prowess tends to be so great that they rarely face significant challenge in whatever their chosen path is.

20-Year Veteran Anime Technical Director Reports 100,000-Yen Monthly Salary

>Anime technical director Taiki Nishimura reported on his Twitter account on Monday that his monthly income is 100,000 yen (about US$900) for each anime that he works on. Nishimura noted that he has been working in the anime industry for 20 years.

>Nishimura said that he needs at least 150,000 yen (US$1,350) to 200,000 yen (US$1,800) in income per month. He said that he wants to concentrate on one anime at a time, but he has to work on two television anime to have enough income. Nishimura said that he receives about 230,000 yen (US$2,070) per anime, and each anime takes about two months to complete. As a result, his monthly income per anime is about 100,000 yen (about US$900).

>Nishimura added that the most he has earned in total pay for an anime so far is 300,000 yen (US$2,700), and the least is 160,000 yen (US$1,440). He said that the anime with the highest pay was produced at a medium-sized production company, and the anime with the lowest pay was at a major production company. Nishimura said that the anime for which he received that highest pay had major big-name sponsors.

Thus far I've picked up about 16 shows, but nothing stands out a whole lot. Lot of watchable shows, but nothing really good so far. I guess Alice to Zouroku has been the most interesting to me.

Japanese Riot Porn

Japan might be a pacified conservative society today but most people don't know that they have an extensive history of radicalism and violent protests and resistance. They also had a unique aesthetic than even modern Japanese look up to, even if they don't agree with their means.

Hey fellow weebs, was wondering if we should make like a IRC, skype group, chat or something. This place isn't really fortified with activity, but think the few things that do get posted are inquisitive and interesting.

So interacting with one another more fluently would be cool. So thought I should make the suggestion. Also, anyone here mind sharing any communities you are apart of? Been looking for a place to interact with others "like us" for a while.

Anyways, here's (the real/ 声優)Nico, doing a Nico…ni or something. Whatever it's called, not up to date on the love live.

Anime in the 80's and 90's

>tfw the crazy age of anime in the 80's and the 90's is gone forever

>I find myself admiring the art style, animation, and pacing of old shows, and I'm unironically attached to them, even though I know the quality of some of them is probably worse off than some works today

>A lot of modern anime seems low-effort, shallow, and profit-driven to me, even though this was also the case in the 80's and the 90's

>I get this feeling most strongly with the magical girl genre, and personally feel that Sailor Moon was the pinnacle of the genre; everything that came afterwards (except for different takes like Madoka, of course) doesn't carry the same feeling behind it

I'm reposting this from the /leftypol/ thread to get some discussion going about it. Hopefully I don't piss off too many people again.

Abe's support tanks after nationalist school scandal

> Support for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has plunged after questions were raised in parliament about a murky land deal involving an elementary school to which his wife had ties, according to an online poll published on Wednesday.

> Abe has said neither he nor his wife, Akie, was involved in the deal for state-owned land purchased by Moritomo Gakuen, an educational body in the western city of Osaka that also runs a kindergarten promoting patriotism.

> But an online survey by Japan's Nikkei business daily found that Abe's support fell to 36.1 percent in a survey conducted from March 4 to 7 from 63.7 percent in the previous week.

[Idol culture] Yamakan Discusses Criticism of His Comments About Idol Stabbing

>The amazing thing is this. How long will this country's citizens continue to be satisfied by copying each other? Really, this country yields to the atmosphere, this dirty garbage nation.

>Isn't it favoritism if this is a female college student, if it's a cute idol? So you want to say that it's OK for a dirty middle-aged man to die, and a cute idol should be protected?

>Live as you please, and die as you please. The world is not turning by your moods alone. I mean, this article too is anonymous. Truly, it's cowardice.

>For people who work as idols (and similar professions), carelessly blocking a fan is a bad idea. And you can't help how it looks when you return a present.

Final Approach

>Ever since their parents died a few years ago, Ryo and his sister Akane have been living alone together. Despite their difficult situation, they are still living reasonably happy and normal lives. However, everything is about to be flipped upside-down due to a secret government project. Due to increasingly low birth rates in Japan, the Japanese government is testing a program in which two young people are forced to marry. Ryo wants no part of it, but he is given little choice in the matter; his new fiancée, Shizuka, comes to his home late one night with several dozen government issued bodyguards, who are there to ensure the success of the new couple. Unlike Ryo, Shizuka couldn’t be more willing to go along with this new program, and eagerly goes about her wifely duties, despite his objections. With meddling friends, pushy bodyguards, and an overenthusiastic new fiancée, Ryo’s life has taken a turn in a direction the young man certainly didn’t expect.

I suggest everyone here watches this. This is fictional example of government arranged marriage, which we need to normalize in leftist thought for our future society, when we finally defeat hookup culture and courtship.

"Gintama" creator comments on how much manga authors make from anime adaptations

Basically, they make nothing.

Q: I have a question. A while ago, my mother heard that the Gintama animation film was a big hit, and commented that “(Hideaki Sorachi) must be living at [luxury highrise] Roppongi Hills since it’s so popular”. Is that true?

A: To tell the naked truth, regardless of how many people watch the film or how much the gross earnings are, not a single yen goes to the author. We are only paid an upfront license fee. The amount we’re paid is peanuts in comparison to the overall box office gross. The majority of the profits go to filthy unscrupulous companies such as Shueisha and Sunrise. Releasing individual manga volumes is way more profitable.

But the reason why I slog to fulfill these film adaptations, to the extent that I’m peeing blood, is because there is a place in this world that is more wonderful than a mansion at Roppongi Hills. And that place, ma’am, is in your heart.

If Gintama can reach the hearts of the masses, I wouldn’t mind living in a hill made of cardboard. The authors are the only ones who harbour such honest intentions with their creations.

So ma’am, if you’re feeling sorry for us, don’t just watch the movies, but also buy our books so that we can live at Roppongi Hills with the publishing royalties.

Idol Jihen

>Idols stand up against a corrupt government as "idol Diet members," and then work to bring back the smiles of the Japanese people through song and dance. The idol Diet members belong to seven different political parties, including the Heroine Party, the SOS Party, the Subculture New Party, the Bishōjo Party, the Wakaba Party, the Starlight Party, and the Sanrai Party.

>The series is set in a parallel world in the country of Nippon, where corrupt political parties have failed to address problems such as pollution, income inequality, and caring for the country's elderly. To help meet these challenges, groups of idol pop singers campaign to represent their prefectures and to make the people of Nippon smile again.

Rise of anti-racism in Japan

Anti-racists shutting down anti-Korean protest in Japan

What do you think about doing this, and what's your opinion of the prominent anti-Korean sentiment in Japan?

The Japanese have a strong dislike for violence right now and shutting down protests forcefully seems to be generally looked down upon (hence the dislike bar). Another problem is it seems many of these anti-racists were asking the police for help, which is something many other leftists don't agree on either.

Discussion about "hate speech" is also getting very popular in Japan right now, and it has been used in a court for the first time.
