Why is it that, previously in the USA and increasingly across Europe liberal is a dirty word.

Liberal has become synonymous with crybaby SJW's.

In a political debate about for example, immigration. The usual sentiment I encounter on practically all articles is "Durr cum here takin our jawbs" or "Durr dey just get da welfare"

I point out this bullshit, they can't take your jobs and clog up the welfare system, I attempt to explain that maybe these people simpyl want a better life, in most western nations welfare is living in poverty, why would someone move from poverty, to live in poverty in another nation.
It makes no sense, yet I'm the one that's vilified for not having a popularist opinion shared by every right wing slack jawed hack who lives around me.

Popularist policy is the mainstay in Europe now, nationalism at an all time high across the continent, governments across Europe now just spout crap about how bad foreigners are, how welfare sponges are destroying the system and "X COUNTRY IS THE BEST".

Where the fuck can I move to escape all this nonsense?
Is there any nation on this planet that has a logical debate based on facts before enacting policy?

What is exactly liberalism?

I created a political paradgim using the traditional left-right paradgim. I want other people's opinions on it. Tell me if I left anyone out, or got something wrong.

I'll admit this thread has little to do with political discussion, but i honestly can't find a better place to ask.

So i recently looked into the situation of some universally reviled national maladies of Germany. The GEMA,(the organisation single handedly responsible for the blocking of 60% of the most popular videos on youtube, because they demand higher tolls per view from youtube than anyone in the world, without paying the artists more, and whose monopoly on copyright enforcement is government protected since they got the monopoly rights in 1933 under hitler) and the Rundfunkbeitrag (a 20$/month fee every single place with four walls and a bathroom, be it a home or a companies storage facility, MUST pay to the public broadcasting companies regardless of the nationality of the proprietor, their financial situation, their desire to view public state television, or their ability to do so, because of blindness or having no television sets, without having any say in the program, with the program being biased often, the 'public' companies making a 1.2 billion € surplus illegally to their 8 billion € income).

And what does the german public do about these things? fuckall.
The Constitutional Courts have ruled the fees to be legal and 'not illegal taxes because everyone paying gets the muh privilege of 90 shit channels so it is muh privilege recompensation, which is legal' and the government in the Bundestag blatantly ignores petitions of hundreds of thousands of people against both causes, despite both blatantly violating international human rights.

And the most important topics asked about in political surveys? Euro zone, how Merkel deals with it, and how satisfied we are with the inner politics of greece.

My conclusion is that just like 80 years ago, the german people readily accept any curtailing of their human rights as long as they have not seen this type of attack yet, and as long as it's all explained away by some laws.
The only difference is that this time around only net-neutrality, free speech and their wallets suffer at the hands of media companies, instead of a minority group at the hands of a lunatic political group.
