Scalia was, and I realize how hyperbolic this sounds, society's only protection. For the last few years he'd been the court's loudest and most energetic supporter of common sense and personal freedom and no, having your employer pay for your birth control doesn't count as 'personal freedom' you statist dopes. Honestly, America's been grinding towards collapse lately and everybody can sense it, even if we don't want to admit it. Antonin was a bulwark but there were so many cracks in the dam already, especially with an ostensibly conservative justice like Roberts being threatened to vote the 'right' way or the government would take his adopted kid away, that the waters will becoming through sooner or later. At this point you just hang on to what you love and hope you make it out to the other end.
I'm still glad to have been born an American though. Honored to have been a part of this great experiment.
