With the two parties in a bitter war of attrition with outsider candidates, third parties are being given a golden opportunity to rise as people become disillusioned with the transparent power grabs and corruption in the DNC and GOP. I figured now's a good time to talk about the Libertarian Party.

The embed is a party debate among the top five candidates. It looks like it will become a dead heat between Gary Johnson and John McAfee, although the other three on the panel present interesting platforms. Who do you like, and who do you think will win the nomination?

In addition, there will be a LP debate on television on Fox Business on April 1 (unless they're being cheeky cunts and it's an April Fool's Day prank). If they get a lot of viewership, do you think we'll see them more often in future months or election cycles?

I didn't see the debate since it's boring as fuck and the sound is bad

But McAfee IIRC is a big spender

And GJ wants to kill income tax instead of sales tax which doesn't seem good because sales tax hurts the poor a lot more

>sales tax which doesn't seem good because sales tax hurts the poor a lot more

When income tax is flat, both taxes "hurt the poor". The reason sales tax "hurts the poor" is because it's not progressive.

> hurts the poor

Do you want to hurt the poor? :/

Get rid of all the regressive taxes. I suppose you could make them more progressive if you want, but taking them out is simpler and doesn't punish people for getting rich.

In my country it would make everything about 20% cheaper, which would be pretty dank

 No.18769

i prefer a flat tax vs relying almost solely on sales tax because higher sales tax discourages spending and causes a stagnant economy.

still, either one, or better yet a combination of the two, make much more sense than the crazy multi-tiered progressive taxes we have now.

Taxes don't "hurt" anyone. It's just your usual left-wing perversion of language. "Hurts the poor" means not progressive or not progressive enough. In Angloistan, the tax which most "hurts the poor" is VAT, a value-added sales tax.

Tax systems are diverse. What do you think is a regressive tax in your country?

taxes hurt everyone.

Lets specify something.

It's Fox Business, not Fox. Fox Business.

Fox Business isn't available to 90% of cable viewers, and of the 10% it is available to, how many are honestly going to watch it?

This is just pandering that the LP is hyping up. the Republican party will get their shit together after Trump or Cruz, and proceed to shill for smaller government again, thus getting the dumbasses who are really just small government conservatives to leave the LP and join the GOP again.

Meanwhile the Democratic party will continue to swing towards socialism over the next few decades and continue to influence young and ignorant voters.

The only way Libertarians will have a chance is if we can force one of the two parties to collapse the economy completely, thus giving innovators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses a chance to show their shit.

>Sales tax hurts the poor a lot more

Because they buy more shit?

You know sales taxes are based on per dollar amounts, not how much you buy, right?

Not that it matters, after all, taxation is theft. Unless it's in the form of things like lotteries which are completely voluntary.

 No.18782

>>18781

but shouldn't lotteries along with all other gambling be privatized anyway?

 No.18784

>>18782

It should.

I'm just pointing out that there are some legitimate ways to implement taxes without stealing from people for the minarchists' sake.

>the Republican party will get their shit together after Trump or Cruz, and proceed to shill for smaller government again

I think you underestimate how incompetent and corrupt these people are. Small government means no contracts for megacorps means no campaign funds. Both parties are stuck in a feedback loop and are arming themselves like the US and USSR did with nukes. They fear that if they shrink their warchest, or they allow a third party to siphon off votes, or get fractured along ideological lines, the other party will win everything and fuck the whole country up.

What they fail to realize is that the percentage of people voting is small and shrinking over time. There's a huge untapped voter base that's only going to grow as long as people feel disenfranchised. They may dominate a few more election cycles with the same tired rhetoric but you can't hold off outsider candidates forever. Each time you stiff someone out of a nomination with internal party mechanics, the public becomes more aware of their true motivations.

Also, don't forget about the role that technology can play in encouraging entrepreneurs and self-employed creators. There's a huge market that won't be grasped by today's traditional business strategies. If we're really lucky, agorism could come into fashion in our lifetimes.
