If there were no laws prohibiting discrimination, the only thing that could force tolerance is economic pressure via boycotts. Intolerance would become a tax, and some people would gladly pay it. I think most discriminating businesses or neighborhoods wouldn't be "Zyklon Ben's Aryan Grocery" or anything like that. They'd take a country club approach where it's not necessarily an identity thing as much as a "not behaving like human garbage" thing, whether by pre-screening or reserving the right to refuse business. Seems to be profitable for them, although maybe it's because they're cornering the market in legal discrimination.
