Is it possible to reconcile my Catholic/reactionary views with voluntaryism?

 No.19206

Follow Tom Woods. the guy literally made a miniseries entitled, "The Catholic Church: the Builder of Civilization."

Also, apparently, he will have a special podcast today about, "How do I reconcile Catholicism with the current Pope?" today.

You can hang a "no protestants" sign on your country club gate, but beyond that there isn't much you can do.

No. The pope is a central authority who has abused the doctrine in order to pronounce himself a mortal king among men while claiming to speak for god.

Now if you were to become Orthodox and recognize the pope as a first among equals, we can use reasoning to deduce that the spiritual authority of the church does not translate into legal/material authority, and therefore one can be both an anarchist and a Christian, but I do believe it's impossible to be a Catholic and an Anarchist in the current catholic climate (you can use monarchy minarchy just fine in the Catholic church though).

While not a voluntaryist, Andrew Napolitano seems to know how to be a Catholic and right-libertarian without any conflicts. From memory it has quite a bit to do with being a pre 2nd Vatican Council type Catholic

"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Pope Francis and the Apostle Peter are two different people.

Good question. What is it? Where does it appear in the Bible?

Apostolic succession is treated a bit different between the Orthodox and the Catholics.

For us, the heads of the church are not infallible beings nor do they hold absolute power in any sense of the word. While it may be an oversimplification, they simply pass on the traditions and keep the order to make sure heretics don't sprout up. They are for the most part "geographical spiritual father figures."

The pope has exceeded his station and therefore the argument of apostolic succession is only partially correct.

>>19475

It's more a matter of the gates of hades not opening so long as the spiritual contract of succession is maintained.

Well actually, that's what you'd be implying if Peter actually was just the first of many popes within the apostolic tradition, since Peter died. Sounds ridiculous, yes? That's because Peter was never the Church. People are not the Church. Jesus built his church upon Peter. Matthew 16:18 says "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Jesus was not giving any authority to Peter or any of Peter's descendants. He was simply doing exactly what he said. It's written plainly: Jesus built his Church upon Peter.

Read the rest of Matthew 16.

"From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”"

And that is what I would say to you. You are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man. Don't every prescribe another human being with spiritual authority.

Romans 3:10-18

"None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes."
