For a while I've noticed the words "Liberal" and "Libertarian" and due to a lack of context and inability to see the differences, I do not know if they're interchagable terms for the same thing. Please educate me.

Libertarians used to be known as liberals while socialist anarchists were called libertarians (primarily in Europe). But ever since the left-wing progressives hijacked the term liberal the classical liberals now use the term libertarian.

There isn't really that much difference between classical liberals and libertarians aside from the fact that classical liberals may favor bit more regulation.
