Of course it should be required! Each vaccinated child is one less individual that can contract and carry the disease. Some of these diseases can be fatal, and by preventing the spread we're saving precious lives. There's no practical reason not to vaccinate besides "muh liberty" and some deranged ramblings about how vaccines cause autism. This is not a slippery slope, this is a reasonable step!
