Why isn't this in use? We should start using this.

What are you running? What is your fav. distro?

Because for one, people say Linux for short when people know what you're talking about (i.e. When talking about which GNU/Linux distribution).

And for two, Linux doesn't necessarily have anything to do with GNU. It's not always GNU/Linux.

Also, I just sold my computer so unfortunately I'm just running my windows phone for now, until I get a new phone and computer. Generally I will just run Ubuntu or Sabayon though.

Gentoo user here.
and no it's not because of /g/, I used gentoo before I ever got wind of the 'install gentoo' meme.

I find the best way to choose a distro is to start by picking the package management system you like, and I liked portage.

Ubuntu GNOME is the best Ubuntu.

I use Arch/GNOME though.

Xubuntu.
Was Ubuntu, until they brought in that Unity abomination.

Im running elementary, however my favorite is the live version of gentoo ( i like the f12 dropdown terminal.)
How do I find which linux is best for me when theres so many?

Mint. It works.

 No.15

Running ubuntu. Yes I'm a noob.

If it works for you, that's fine!

I run Parabola with BSPWM

 No.19

Running Mint and loving it.

I want to test OpenBSD now, but i don't know what to expect.

Used to run Ubuntu, it was my first GNU/Linux OS. Recently started using Manjaro on my laptop because it's faster and lighter than Ubuntu. Since 90% of what I do on my desktop is play games, it only boots Wangblows because I'm not some sort of elitist.

Fedora with MATE. Fedora is fairly compatible with Red Hat/Centos (which the companies I have worked in use), but gets new kernels earlier. I prefer the slightly more structured layout of MATE over GNOME 3.

How is the GNU/Linux kernel used without GNU? I haven't heard of such a system.

Laptop: Xubuntu with XFCE(obviously)

Family Computer: GNU/Linux Mint with MATE

Server: CentOS

Favorite distro: #! and Arch. Considering Archbang on new desktop when it's finished, actually.

Manjaro. I just like xfce and is too GNU/Linux newbie to use Arch. Manjaro is fast, lightweight and goes with AUR. Every time in the past when I tried to switch on lunux from Windows I picked Debian based distros and every time I ended up switching back, because I simply didn't like them. But with manjaro it was love from the first glance.

I'm still playing with different distros in vms to find the perfect one to dual boot with muh vidya, especially Civ III Even though I'm a noob, the one I've found most straightforward and easy to use so far has been Bunsen Labs (successor to #!). I tried mint cinnamon, jewbuntu, elementary, fedora, manjaro with enlightenment, and openSUSE leap with KDE plasma 5, but this is the one that really seems to click with me. I love how simple Openbox is to navigate, and the tint2 panel is really simple as well. The fact that it also comes with conky is great for a quick system monitor and cheat sheet while I'm still learning the shortcuts.

 No.40

Just recently migrated to Trisquel. It's a bit dated, but GTK integration with Plasma and everything I normally use works as expected. Starting to get comfy with GNU IceCat, although there are some minor issues.

Only main problem I have is that I'm unable to use my AMD card for 4K and I'm limited to 1080p with my onboard Intel GPU. May consider switching to nVidia kepler in the future.

I'm running CrunchBangPlusPlus, which is a project to revive CrunchBang GNU/Linux. It's fucking awesome!
